Thank you everyone for your support. I will be watching with superstitious dread when the 1.1 update gets approved by Apple, to find out what new bugs, hidden behind the old bugs, will show their face. Also, I'm sticking a surprise in the 2.0 update, so make sure you accept that one when it becomes available (I'm thinking late next week if everything goes well). What is it? It's a surprise.
Really struggling to like this game right now, mainly because the save system is so shockingly shoddy, only 1 file that will be erased with no warning if you return to the main menu? That means one wrong button press and all your progress is gone. The other thing I'm struggling with is it seems too easy. This might just be because I didn't get too far past the first boss before getting my file erased, so hopefully it gets harder higher up? It's a shame, this seems like the kind of game I should love, it just feels like it needs more polish. edit: I'm sure it's been said already, but the game also really needs a shortcut button for health potions (or maybe a shortcut button for the inventory that can be set to any item you choose)
Are you serious? Is it because of the character, or what? I'll consider trying this game once it can be confirmed that the nest update has fixed every last bug.
As the developer explained earlier, the reason it's "shoddy" is that it was a late addition -- the original intent was to make it a rogue-like with perma-death (apparently you can thank beta testers for dodging that bullet). A fix has already been submitted. People's impression of difficulty seems to be all over the place: I thought it was fine, but some people have reported finding it extremely difficult, while others have had a relatively easy time. It depends, in part, on how you build your character. Difficulty definitely ramps up after the first boss. In any event, the developer is building a "hell-mode" into the following update. I guess a quick-draw potion is an okay idea, but the fact is that I use potions rarely in the game -- you can usually do with the health power ups that issue forth from kills. Part of me would rather not clutter up the UI. @Grubjelly: As any programmer can tell you, there's not such thing as fixing "every last bug."
It is definitely NOT too easy. Around floor 5-6, I die a LOT. The trap rooms become frequent, and you get completely overrun.
I got absolutely destroyed on floor 7. I cleared everything but two trap rooms and just could not survive in them. I really hated the build so Ijust decided to start up a new game. This is a challenge for me and I'm really enjoying it. In the last few days I've probably put in 5+ hours, which is a great value for the price.
Absolutely fantastic game. Came out of no where as well. Perfect mix of dual stick shooter and dungeon crawl. I have a huge issue though. I got the "flame ring" or "explosion" secondary ability. It's extremely hard to activate it. I've tried tapping the icon, holding the icon, swiping the icon... nothing gives me a consistent result. Sometimes it fires on the first try, sometimes it never fires. All other controls are tight and responsive. (and yes, the ability isn't cooling down. the icon is solid, showing it's ready to be used). Also, the sound sampling is pretty bad... very crackly. Fix up those two issues, and you've got yourself quite a game here.
The 1.1 build (awaiting Apple approval) enlarges the "hot" area around the icons to make them easier to activate. As for the sound... is this on the iPod speaker, or in headphones? In our in-house testing, we saw that it was somewhat crackly on the little speaker, but was fine in the headphones, so we're actually consulting an audio guy to find out what we can do about that. We don't want to mess up the headphone experience to fix the speaker one.
Make sure to buy the Teleport skill as early as you can. It'll let you jump out of those trap rooms to a safe room instantly... incredibly useful to have
When I started fighting the fire beasts that throw fireballs your way, I took to standing close to one of the trap doors, because every so often, the fireball will actually knock you through the door to the other side (at which point it opens).
Awesome game, loving the LIGHTNING!!!! When I died the first time I went to the beginning then I died a second time and it took me straight to the beginning screen.
I just picked up this game but will wait until the patch is out, I also noticed you make Hoggy. I know I just missed the $1.99 sale any chance to bring the sale back till the patch is out for this game? Thanks, Rad
There will, but it's going to be GREATLY fleshed out, and identical with the PC version. So, it probably won't be around until the fall, depending on what happens. Though now people are trying to talk me into doing that before I do the fleshed out version of Hoggy.
