Well, here's the observations we've been able to make so far: 1st gen: Game will almost always crash on startup unless you turn the machine off and have a fresh boot. 2nd gen: It still happens, but not as frequently. Looks like medium level previous use of the iPhone means you need to reboot. 3rd gen: Looks like this one is okay if you've just been listening to music. If you've been fiddling with a lot of apps or doing a lot of work, bam, you need to reboot too. So we're actually trying to REDUCE the current memory footprint so that a person's first experience with SK isn't "start->crash." I've managed to reduce it by about a mb so far by tweaking some textures, and there's a few other things I'm going to try today, but, yeah, adding MORE graphics and code won't be really wise. Maybe for 4Gs!
If you go into the setup from the main menu, there's an option there to delete your current game and start anew. Multiple characters... hm, technically possible, but I'll look into it only after the app is 100% stable. I'm not sure it'd be something a lot of people would use all that much. I'm also going to see what the technical limits are of uploading your character and stats to a display website when you win a level. I see that a lot of people want some social networking aspect to the game, but I don't want to set it up to interrupt gameplay with signals and whatnot. But it might be fun if you could stick a little icon on a facebook account or webpage saying "here's the character I defeated Solomon Dark with."
Well, believe it or not, but I've been playing this for about an hour on my 1st gen iPod and it runs pretty smooth for me (without restarting my device even). Loading time is a bit long but that's about it. No crashes or major lag yet so I'm very pleased with this game. I love how the zombies splatter all over the place A few suggestions for future updates: • The continue button could be a little bigger so you don't delete your progress by mistake. • A (blue) dot on the map menu to show where you are would be very usefull. • Maybe your exp. could be shown on the screen while you play so you know when you get your next upgrade. Oh, and one minor thing.. On my homescreen the game is now named Solom...Keep, maybe you should make the name shorter so it looks nicer on your device...
loving it Dev I am liking how you are very active in here. If there's a DLC, I'll be sure to get it to support you PS: That necromancer idea, loving it! especially if you can create a minnion, I'd pay for that
how about a confirmation dialogue too...so if you press main menu, a dialogue comes up saying that "you will be deleting your current character if you continue, do you still wish to go to the main menu...yes/no" type of thing
I'm thinking more you point your spell at one (or more) of Solomon's undead minions, and so long as you hold your finger down, they fight for YOU. So in a way, it works like a beam spell. I'm trying to find different ways to make the game play with the different character classes, so it's not cheesy, like, okay, now your fireballs are a different color and do different damage, because you're a necromancer, not a mage, y'know?
In the update, it will take you to the main menu without deleting your game... the only way to reset the game in 1.1 will be to go into setup and manually reset it. There's a little bit of a disconnect here, because in its initial incarnation, the game gave you one life only, and if you died, you had to start over. But then people who playtested it gathered outside my house with torches and pitchforks.
This time, they tried not to burn the monster - they tried to burn its creator. I bought the game on release, too - and I am loving it. Oh, btw... this sentence in the starting sequence (first arrival at the castle): "Stay a while - stay forever!"... Well - you played "Impossible Mission" quite a lot, or?
I just found out about this game and downloaded it immediately. It's amazing! I've had no technical problems with the game except for it freezing once. Keep up the good work!
Now if these other games do come into full effect will the story be the same or different? Because I'd love to see some DLC's and Extra Stories for the game.
Too easy to erase game. Dang! I love this game and played it for a few hours, and when you die i accidently hit start all over or something right next to continue. Add a "are you sure you want to erase your game" prompt or something.
Bought it on release day and just took the time to beat it today, absolutely loved it! Just had two freezes throughout my playthrough (on a 3GS), both happened when I went into my menu and tried to select an item. Exiting out of the game and entering back in though seemed to fix it perfectly and I started right back from where I left it. Very excited to hear about the next update that will not delete your playthrough on the one Game Over option, and I'd like to put down a huge vote towards more character classes w/ maybe more save files to accommodate each class. Here's some things I would recommend for future updates... 1. Experience bar (or something that just shows how much exp you need till your next level) 2. Way to be able to choose from all the skills when leveling up. Ex: I wanted to go through the game maining the lightning blast, but pretty much never had the skill pop up or its advancements, so I was never able to improve it which made getting through the way I wanted somewhat impossible. Even if when leveling up you can't choose exactly which skills you get to pick, it would be nice to have them at least all available to choose back at town for upgrading them through money. 3. A fix for control snagging. This was VERY problematic when I would level up in the middle of a big battle (or just go into the menu to use an item), as when I would come out from the menu the controls take a little to get comfortable again, leaving my character not able to move smoothly while I'm getting pounded by enemies. This kind of also applies for when firing your weapons. If you take your finger off the right "Fire" stick and try to put it back on to aim at another enemy, I had a very difficult time getting it to go where I wanted and ended up wasting precious mana quite a lot. 4. I obtained a Rare Staff that gave me like 500% more money, but when I equipped it I did not notice a single change throughout the floors regarding how much money I was finding. Not sure if this was an error or if I just misunderstood something, but I was a little confused as to its purpose as it didn't seem to make any difference. 5. Something in the main menu to show your previous character stats/accomplishments that have beaten the tower. I loved the game but was very sad to see it end so soon, then have no way to look upon the "character" I had beaten it with. So some kind of "Wall of Fame" thing would be really nice. 6. Even a little bit of character customization. I would love to play through as a different color wizard, choose its name, sex, etc. And that's pretty much all I could think of! Thanks so much for being active on the boards, and thank you for this absolutely wonderful game. I'm off to purchase Hoggy in order to support!
@Raptisoft: First off, I would like to say how much I am enjoying this game. I am a big fan of Hoggy (hoping for more levels or a Hoggy 2) so once I saw that this was made by the same devs, I had to have it. I just checked out your website and I realized that you were the ones who made one of my favorite games for the pc Hamsterball. Do you have any plans to port that to the iPhone/iPod Touch? That would be incredible!
Looks like I found a game ending bug.. I had just entered level 4, and decided to head back to town. Not thinking I opening the portal to town, and the door was placed in the black area leading back downstairs. When I headed towards the door, instead of porting me to town it ported me into a black area inbetween walls on a previous floor and I am unable to move. I created another portal but I am unable to walk to the door. The game autosaved to this point, so it looks like I'll have to restart. To duplicate, go up the stairs and right when the screen changes, hit the magic key. If the door opens in the black area leading back downstairs, attempt to go to the door. That is when I was ported in between walls and unable to move.
Hi all, This is just an FYI, I am about to upload version 1.1, with the following fixes: 1. Eliminates the "freeze up" bug 2. Smaller memory footprint, which means that more machines should be able to run it without the startup crash 3. Fixed the "Find x% more gold" item bug (it wasn't adjusting the gold amount) 4. Made it so that selecting "main menu" will not erase your game (note: the only way to erase your game now is to go into setup from the main menu) 5. An improved icon 6. Slightly larger "hot" area around the secondary skill buttons, to make them easier to press In about a week or two, I will upload version 2.0, which will have the following enhancements: 1. The ability to continue playing after defeating Solomon Dark, with harder enemies (i.e. like nightmare/hell difficulties in Diablo) 2. A new secondary skill 3. A few tweaks to the control scheme to address a few issues raised here 4. A fix for "thumb snagging" 5. An extra layer of items for each difficulty skill
Well... I don't think DLC is going to work, with the memory issues the game is already having (see up in the thread). But yes, each character class will have its own story. Wouldn't make sense for the Warlord class to have his final exam explained, no?
