You can't really manage it. There's a point at which you'll find you can either auto-battle for 20/30 floors at a time or manually fight and go much farther. Or you can get forks...and everything changes.
IMO, the game is already 'working': the gear I'm finding in the higher levels is already enough to get me through without my having to resort to forks (which aren't supposed to be easy to 'find' in the first place). Sure--getting 'good' gear is the luck of the draw, but that's also part of the appeal of rogue-like games. The forks would be 'balance' issue only if it were nigh impossible to find other high-level gear for dealing commensurate damage to high-level enemies (to avoid 'tougher' fights being unreasonably dragged out). I've just skimmed through the list of proposed updates so far, and I'm not sure if I see tweaks being made to other gear besides the forks. But oh well. Maybe it's indeed a 'different strokes' thing.
A piece of gear, which you can get 5 copies of for free, which you can obtain literally from level 1, which remains the best piece of gear at least through floor 1000 (I can't speak to anything after, which allows you to auto attack your way from floor 1 until the end of the campaign exists...and you don't think that breaks the game? Let me be clear for those that don't know about it. I recently finished dimension 10...1000 floors...and was attacked exactly 6 times. All were 100 floor bosses. Only one got to attack more than once...and he got to attack 3 times. Not one of my characters died once. And, in truth...this was the case for me from the point I found out about forks when I was fighting to complete the floor 700 boss the first time. Why do enemies even exist? I don't know what a single normal enemy past floor 700 does. Not one of the thousands of them got to attack me even once. Not one. And tou don't think that's broken? That's the definition of broken. Literally zero strategy. Literally zero anticipation or nervousness. 99% of my time playing was comprised of putting my phone down and watching football while it auto-attacked me through 2500 floors. That's an awful game, broken by a single item.
Well--I think it's 'broken' only because players are choosing to play a certain way while using 'secret' uber-gear. The forks aren't supposed to be easy to 'find', and to me it doesn't matter whether or not they can be used from beginning to end. To me, a 'balancing' issue would apply only if the forks could be found in the dungeon itself through 'regular' gameplay at an early stage.
You mean playing by using an item that exists within the game? Like I said before, the onus is on the developer to create a good game...not on us to Jerry-rig it into being one. Since when is that an acceptable policy in gaming? "Well, just don't but Boardwalk, and it's a good game!" "Don't play Zerg and it's a good game!" "Don't use the 4-1 blocks and it's a good game!" You don't apologize on behalf of games. It lowers the bar and creates a shitty landscape full of games with no follow-through. Make a good game, and it'll get the love it deserves. But volunteering excuses for half-efforts doesn't serve anyone well. We'll be left with a world full of Indy developers offering broken 8-bit games who make their money and bail before we all realize, a week later, that we're playing a shittier version of something we played 2 years ago.
You don't have to "jerry-rig" the game into being good. If anything, the forks are how you "jerry-rig" it into being broken. No one is saying ignore a normal part of the game. We're saying just ignore the secret boost if you don't like it. Your analogies are greatly flawed. A better analogy is comparing the forks to something like the warp rooms in the original Super Mario Bros. You have to go out of your way to get to the warp rooms, and they make the game easier to beat. Same with the forks in this game. If you don't like to use them, then don't go out of your way to get them.
But I think an important difference is that Boardwalk, Zerg, etc... can be 'found' through 'regular' gameplay: they're not supposed to be kept 'secret'--all have been mentioned beforehand in the rules or made 'obvious' on the playing field--and very few players would complain they give 'unfair' advantages because they're balanced out by other factors (if you're an unlucky Monopoly player who has only 'Boardwalk'--and nothing else--how far is that going to get you?). And what about other satisfied Soda Dungeon players who never found the forks in the first place but still managed to finish the campaign? What about players who thought the forks enhanced their gaming experience? I think the issue of 'quality' here is pretty subjective. Some players might see Soda Dungeon as a 'good' experience that's close to an idle-clicker (especially when those players are using forks), but other players see Soda Dungeon as an RPG experience. Who's 'right'?
Who has to go out of their way to get them? Lol. This isn't a glitch (speaking of flawed analogies). It's not a cheat code. I've got one or two of them available every time I start a new dimension. They're easier to find than black healers and white knights, lol. If this were something the game was hiding as an extra little secret bonus, maybe don't make them available in the ####ing tavern, haha...maybe don't make them available from level 1. But, regardless, it's a game breaking advantage that over-simplifies the game. And, routinely, in ccg's, mmo's, and fps's, they get dealt with swiftly because expecting any player base to simply ignore any aspect of a game, because it's broken, doesn't work.
If the people who think getting attacked 6 times in 1000 floors is an enhancement to their experience reflect anything close to a majority, I'll concede my point. I'll also eat my shoe.
1. This is a working game. It works pretty darn well. It's quite enjoyable. The developers have done their job and continue to do a good job. 2. Jerry-rig? Really? Many games provide an "easy mode." Choosing to play on easy mode or regular mode does not constitute Jerry-rigging. Heck, you could choose to play on "hard mode" and never equip your characters with anything at all if you felt like it. That's one of the beauties of this kind of game - you are free to play according to your preference. 3. I also appreciate that the devs are listening to the community's complaints, even if I don't feel that those complaints are completely valid.
There's a HUGE difference between this game and a CCG, MMO or FPS. Those are all cases in which you are competing against other players. A "game breaking advantage" implies that you are gaining an advantage over someone else but nobody else who plays this game is impacted by your choice of whether or not to use the forks.
Just to confirm again- we are nerfing the fork very soon but it takes time for updates to get through the apple review process. The fork was meant to be a dumb secret item- a weapon with huge crit damage but overall little damage output. In a moment of oversight I didn't really think about how high this could be pushed with scaling. The notion that this is somehow our way of shipping broken software and laughing all the way to the bank is a bit... er... silly, but that hyperbole I guess
Everything is competitive. Don't fool yourself. People competed for high scores in pac man. In Zenonia, it was a race towards finding perfect gear. In soda dungeon, it's people seeing how far they can get into the warrior dimension.
How do you get items with +loot drop rate? I'm on floor 800 and NEVER had a single item with this bonus drop? My party always have at least 1 thief.
Man you don't know how to just let things go do you? If you don't like forks don't use them, no one is forcing you to. There isn't even PVP in this game. SiR_Wats is right, this is not a competitive game. You want to brag to you friends about how you made it to floor 1000 with only being attacked 6 times, go ahead. Maybe someone else can do it in only 5 attacks. Then little Timmy comes along and says he can make it to floor 2000 without forks, now is your ego is hurt? You can unequip those forks and try it yourself. Just chillax man and put the fork down .
There is an accessory called Vaan's Magnet, something like that, it's a golden magnet. It increase gold drop rate and item drop rate. You find them mostly below floor 300 from what I've read. I am starting on floor 80 and get up to 499 and exit trying to get them as well.
holy cow just got this game today...great job Devs. Very fun!!!!! loving it so far. All the 99 cent iaps are great as well! I definitely will donate through some of those.
Lol @ people butt hurt over items in a single player casual game. Just have fun, it's a great game with lots of charm, don't overthink it.
Look. I'm not alltogether different from the rest of you. I love gaming. I love mobile gaming. And, despite what I've said here, I like the game. There's a reason I left my rating at 4 stars. But we have very different ideas about what to expect from a game, apparently. Maybe I'm in the minority. But, if I am, it's a significant minority. There's a reason the developers are fixing this. And while you might consider it my flaw, me and people like me don't see it that way. The game is broken for me. I can't ignore the flaw. And I appreciate that the developers are fixing it so that I can go back to enjoying it.
