As a defender the Shield is great at intercepting and covering the area in front of the box. He's great at getting back and getting in the way, making it very difficult to get passes through. Much like Makhelele you need to be really clever to get through levels with this defender!
Chess-like Gameplay The one thing we've not really elaborated on for the gameplay, is that we the defenders each have their own movement, which makes the tactical element very similar to chess. With each defender having their own strengths and weaknesses, levels are lines up to take advantage of this. The player (you) need to figure out how best to get around the defenders, and really learn how they move and can be used. Much like in chess the defenders each have very particular skills, making matches incredibly tactical and puzzles interesting to solve. If anyone has any further questions about the gameplay, please feel free to ask!
The game is fairly quick and fast to play. In fact it's entirely dependant on you as the defenders react to your moves. If you want to take some time to think of a move you can, but you're able to very quickly try to score. There are two things to complete on each level: (1) you can score, this completes the level and allows you to proceed (2) you can achieve the objective, this is much harder and is there to challenge the user who wants to be challenged. You can choose how you want to play.
The Sweeper The fourth defender being revealed today is the elegant Sweeper. There are few few truly classy sweepers in the game at the moment, but this is related to tactical changes rather than them not being important. The Sweeper is generally the classiest of defenders, the player that doesn't make that many tackles, mostly because he's always in the right place at the right time. He reads the game as if it was a pop-up book, always knowing where to be before the attackers even realize themselves. Elegant, classy, tactically superb and calm in defense, the Sweeper is calmness personified! Classic sweepers include Passarella, Hansen, Nesta, Blanc, Baresi, and my personal favorite - Beckenbauer. Soccer Moves' Sweeper is inspired by the best of these, we hope he does them justice! If you can name a better sweeper than Beckenbauer we'll reward you with a new Hardman promo poster image.

Introducing the Goalie The common soccer commentator seems to believe that goalkeepers are a strange bunch. We're not sure if it's because there doesn't seem to be an ex-goalie who is now a commentator, or if it really is that goalkeepers were the odd one out. The only thing we can say for certain is that Goalies are incredibly brave, have cat like reflexes, love shouting at defenders.....and always seem to have crazy eyes. Could it be the years of standing at the back by themselves? The Soccer Moves goalie isn't dangerous like Jens Lehmann, doesn't have luminous kits like Jorge Campos, he doesn't sit on the bench like Iker Casillas and he doesn't have a fondness for tacos like David De Gea (not our words). He is however incredibly brave, even though he has a slightly crazy glint in his eye. He's also an excellent opponent in Soccer Moves! Can anyone tell me which goalie invented 'the scorpion kick'?
Hardman Movie Poster We have a special wallpaper gift for any fans of Soccer Moves. We love the Hardman and felt he deserved a new poster of his own, so we mocked up a 'movie poster' for him. Let us know what you think. We could make more for the others, just let us know which movie poster to take inspiration from.
Wingback Intro Trailer Introducing the Wingback from Soccer Moves! Wingback's have become integral to the current 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 formations as they provide the width going forward, but also expected to get back when needed. They're generally quick, powerful and can run all day. The might not be great going from side to side, but definitely know how to get back and forward. Legends include Roberto Carlos, Dani Alves, Philip Lahm, Carlos Alberta! Even the worlds most expensive player, Gareth Bale started as a wingback. They've become key and vital to the top teams of today. This defender is inspired by one person though. Flashy, unfaithful, petulant and arrogant. At the same time he's quick, powerful and probably the most consistent and best left back in the world. Can you name the this person who inspired our Wingback? Wrong Sided Defender - Soccer Moves Today's defender isn't technically a type, or cliche, but rather an occurrence that happens fairly often...the Wrong Sided defender. In times of injury, suspension, or even sometimes due to tactics, a defender might need to play on the other side of the field. A left footed player on the right hand side is never as good as someone that belongs there, but it doesn't mean he'll do a bad job either. Tactically it's interesting as the attackers could use this to their advantage, getting him to constantly push attackers to the inside as that would be for his stronger foot. This doesn't necessarily equal a problem though as a good defender can always adapt. Soccer Moves introduces the Wrong Sided player as he adds an extremely unique movement to the pitch. Can you get around him?
