Had to sign in to game center and as noted on the front page that sends the name associated with the account to friend requests. I am thinking Open Feint is going to make a huge resurgence as people opt out of sending their real names to casual online friends.
I don't know if people can handle my true identity . . . who am I kidding, nobody gives a crap who I am besides data mining marketers, and identity thieves.
I don't care. Plus, I have the same name as some hockey player. So googling my name comes up with all his stuff anyway
I personally don't care but I understand people that do care. My problem with it is I can't think of one good reason for apple to do this it makes no sence it killed ping out of the gate and it will kill gamecenter I'm more confused than angry. Maybe the very casual game players on iPad and I phone want this but I dont know anyone that is excited about it.
Same. I don't mind if I'm called by my real name (Justin), it's just I don't get why apple would do this in the first place. Makes no sense to me.
not one bit bothered. who cares? my name is way too common. Would just be another name in the sea of names.
My game centre nickname is my real name anyway! Helps me remember what my login is... Most of the time
Unbelievable, outrageous. A fraudulence almost on facebook niveau. Game Center is dead for me. Will change sig soon.
I don't care too much, but it still shouldn't be this way. People simply want the choice to go by their real name or an alias, it's a perfectly reasonable request. Apple ought to know better.
I'm pretty much on this boat as well. I really don't care if people know my real name, but Apple should respect the rights of others to stay anonymous.
+1 It's not so much that I care, I am a nobody in a sea of nobodies, but what exactly is the point? How does this in any way improve game center? Or what benefit does it have at all? In any way?
they're probably going to integrate facebook into gamecenter. full names are obviously necessary to do so. i'm just guessing..
See my other thread about some of the other private data available to developers in Apple's well documented publicly available APIs. There are several key places in the OS where it should be asking the user for permission at the very least and it's not. Hopefully Apple dedicates some resources to tidying up some of these loose ends by iOS 5.
Once I hit like 50 people on GC I stopped accepting requests, unless it was from someone I knew personally. I haven't received many GC challenges to begin with, and it's not like I can see who's online or SMS anyone through the app. Plus I believe some of the scores are so ridiculously hacked I gave up trying to beat any globals. And yes I'm bitter.
Anonymity is already lost when you get in contact with Apple or any of its products. Just hit "Agree" and move on.
