I'm getting an iPhone 4, so I can't wait. Also, quick question. I have an iPhone 3G and my contrat expires this month. How much does the iPhone 4 cost when my contract expires?

I'm excited about finally getting folders. Though I'm not sure "excited" is the right word. "Relieved?" Strikes me as being a little sad to be excited for something we should've had 2-3 years ago as a basic necessity, not "feature."

Beta 4 expired so I'm stuck on 3.1.3 (don't feel like downloading the GM). Damn ugly background-less iPod (don't feel like jailbreaking either) :p

If you're due for a contract renewal, I believe it's 199$ US dollars. At least that's the deal here in Portland, OR.

I have a link to iOS4 plus iTunes 9.2 beta that works even if you aren't a dev if anyone wants it

    The catch?

You need a Mac to use it.

Edit: It's the release version as well, unless they change it within 10 days.

yeah I've thought about doing it - but it wipes your appdata and music, and I just got my music set up the way I like it. Otherwise I'd do it in a flat second.

i live outside US and other countries that are getting iphone 4 early so i am caught in a dilemma whether to upgrade my iphone 3G to iOS4 or wait till i get my hands on iphone 4.
The reason for this confusion is that i want to fully enjoy the novelty of my iphone 4 when i get it so getting used to the new OS beforehand might lessen the effect.

  13. Screw novelty. I want my folders, dammit! And multitasking, that'll be nice, but I need folders! Every new thing I install these days must be precipitated by choosing what I should delete to make room on the springboard for it.

Thanks for the link. Am downloading the ipsw, and will hopefully give it a try this evening. If not reported by others will let y'all know if it works...

Due to all the excitement and problems with the new iPhone 4 I am not going to be getting one until July 6-8... Can't wait for that though, I, like Minefield NEED folders...

Probably old but, can you have a custom background image on an iPod Touch 2nd gen? Also what about folders?

  18. No to backgrounds, yes to folders. No multitasking on 2G either. (2nd gen has half the RAM of 3rd gen devices so it would have a lot of trouble dealing with stuff that just sucks up more memory.)

I am trying to install OS 4 under the link supplied by Vester above. Got the ipsw file, but when I try and do the restore, after extracting the file, I get an error message.

I am using Windows, and iTunes 9.2 (just upgraded this evening)... Not sure if this is just unique to Windows still, or Apple has somehow made this not work - anyways, not working for me...

Also, for those also trying to do it - use the Shift key + restore under windows. Alt + restore does nothing except a regular restore - I guess it works for Macs, but Shift+ restore under windows lets you choose the ipsw you wish to use...
