i never saw a book / reading thread, so I am starting one. What are you currently reading? I mostly read magazines anymore, but I have just started Gideon's Corpse, by Preston & Child. Basic premise is a nuclear scientist takes a family hostage.
Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig. Strange book, and I had to read it for college, but an overall interesting read.
Wow - one of the best books I ever read - haven't read it for twenty years but it really did make me think about things differently. Currently reading Thomas Pynchon's 'Against the Day' - proper mental, in a good way.
I'm reading Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Or at least I'm trying to, it's very boring. And here's the other Touch Arcade reading thread: http://cdn2.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=221737
I usually read fantasy, horror, scifi type stuff I guess I just like the escapism, At the minute I've been reading the Spooks Apprentice series I started reading that after watching the movie Seventh Son as I thought it was an interesting idea. The books are pretty entertaining I like them better than the film but I'm almost through all of them now. I also started the horror novel "House of Leaves" after reading a little about it on reddit (basically a lot of people were saying they couldn't sleep for days afterwards and it effected their outlook on life) sadly I'm actually not very impressed with that one however I'm about a third through it and it feels like it's mostly just the author trying to randomly fill space with latin quotes and I haven't read a single thing in it I'd consider the least bit scary. Can't recommend that one at all and I'm honestly starting to suspect all the reviews and opinions I did read are some sort of bad marketing scheme, I'd go as far as to say it's one of the least scary and most boring books I've ever read.
I'm mostly reading scifi. Just finished 'Ancillary Justice' by Ann Leckie, which was very enjoyable but (imo) a bit hard to get into because of getting to know th rules and players in the universe. It follows the endeavors of this lone soldier, who once "was" a starship/starship's AI, on a quest for revenge. Good stuff. Currently I'm reading 'the dream master' by Roger Zelazny. it's a somewhat older book, but he's one of my favourie authors. it's a story about a 'psychiatrist'; he links up to his patients in their minds by means of a medical device and shapes worlds and events in order to help them overcome their psychological difficulties. Then comes around this blind patient...
Just finished Engines of War in the Dr Who series Featuring the War Doctor and now starting Stephen Baxter's Exultant.
Are you talking about Mark Danielewski's book? Not scary, just a weird read with all the words going everywhere.
Yeah but I honestly came across it from a Reddit thread on r/books were more than a few posters claimed it to be the scariest book they ever read and claimed to still be disturbed by it, that's actually what made me curious about it. I'd have to agree with you it's not scary in the least and To me it really just feels like 90% of it was random space filling, the overall plot idea maybe isn't that bad but it takes so long to get to parts that actually move forward I don't see myself finishing it.
I downloaded the book but not read it yet. I also heard about how scary and horrifying it is, but I think it's more psychological horror and not monsters/blood/killing horror. Plus it has one of the most original book layouts I ever saw. I need to read it. Also I am currently reading Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple for the third time. They're turning it into a movie next year andthe book is also very original since it tells the story through emails, letters, articles and diary pages of various characters. Basically the weird excentric wife of a Microsoft bigshot disappears one day and they set out to find her. Pretty hilarious at times and has some good gems.
