my ipod touch gaming is out of control. I've been unemployed for 18 months or so. So naturallyy, I have plenty of time to kill. Got an ipod touch for xmas, thinking I'd never play any games at all on the thing, WRONG!!!!!!! I cant shut the damn thing off now. I have stopped working out entirely and just play play play. I dont do anything else. HELP!!~~
Get this guy a MacArthur Grant. Just keep on searching, and find stuff outside, to do, I guess. Eh, this is a weird situation.
If he is serious, I don't think coming to a gaming site, where all people talk about is games is a great place to go. Unless of course there are people in the community that have overcome an obstacle in their life like this. Go see a doctor
Was in a similar position. My advice? Volunteer. Go out with friends. Join a social group for outings. Go to your local unemployment office and put in the hours with whatever work initiative program they have. And if your gaming starts to become a substitute for doing these things and actually living life, then you really should leave the iPhone/touch home whenever you go out. Remember: you don't NEED it.
As the economic outlook is slow to recover and the unemployment picture looks to be more disheartening, we're going to see more and more cases like this - particularly among those who grew up gaming. I think it's subconscious nostalgia, a longing for the days of youth where the only real responsibility one had was to get that high score or rescue the princess who, much to our passing dismay, was always in another castle. In regards to iPhone/touch in particular, the mobile gaming paradigm is focused on "minute gaming", arcade gameplay like experiences where a simple task is often the focus and reflex reaction gameplay is the order of the day. In this sector of the market, a player can get lost momentarily in what I, and other arcade fans (mostly shmup fans) would call losing oneself into "the zone". Everything outside of the game becomes a blur, and there is only the game, only your reflexes, and you stop thinking and start being. It's a high. If you get too lost in it, however, and start losing grip on the outside world and what's truly important, you really have to put the game down and go do something else.
Yeah this is true. I recommend watching the news occasionally, getting more involved with sports and activities and occasionally go out and do something really random/strange/fun (but be safe )
I'd suggest playing a really frustrating game so you are forced to throw you ipod at the wall and break it. So you have no choice but to go to work and make some money for a new one.
