Great Thread (I don't give a flying fart if there was one recently. All of them focus on different aspects and I have always come across a new game I have never heard of in each thread. Simple choice not to read if it pains you so). There are so many platformers, especially recently, that are very good, yet none get all the way there for me to claim a king. LOE is close, but it is turning into a how fast can you possibly get to the end while ramping up the difficluty type game for me. I want a little more to each level. Bigger Levels for LOE and I am in love. Also dig the purity of it and of course the controls. RWK has the size, but maybe too much and the cartoonish style of it made me pull back. Also too much searching for me. Mos Speedrun is kind of fun, but something is not quite right for me. Also, speed runs get boring for me. If I could make the best platformer, it would be a mesh of LOE, HookChamp, some parts of Mos Speedrun and RWK. I also think I am going to love 1-bit ninja when it hits. I really really want the game described above with ability to edit levels and share them. Don't even have to edit on phone. Can be like Labyrinth 2. Perfect way to share levels. Also throw in a gun and puzzle elements and about 250 levels off the top. HAHA If someone can make the above described game, I'll pay you 5k!!! Seriously
For me, it'd have to be Rolando on sheer polish, League of Evil for its perfect, incredibly responsive controls (seriously, more devs should use this scheme), and Robot vs. Kitty for its addictive levels. Not too small and hopefully once the level sharing function goes online it'll be amazing.
I also would love to see the LoE style, characters, music and controls in a more complex, bigger platformer with huge levels, a storyline and so on (more like a classical platformer). The very short and pretty difficult (for me) levels keep me from playing it that much, although I really love the presentation. Just played Pizza Boy again some time ago. Damn, if this would be bigger, it would be clearly the king. Everything's just perfect. Presentation, level design, controls, heart, many details... really love it.
I couldn't agree more on Pizza Boy. I'd gladly pay $10 for it if it was expanded to have 50 levels or so.
Thanks for the Rolondo 2 suggestion. I have it, but was never really able to get into it because of the requirement to tilt. I know it sounds lame, but I tend to stay up later than my girlfriend who get pretty pissed when she is woken up by my movement because of me playing games. Its been a while since I played pizza boy, but I kind of remember the controls not being as good as your describing. Or maybe it was the speed of the game being just a little off. However, you have peaked my interest for another run at it. I'll update my thoughts soon. As for the 2.5D platformer. I know the game was not liked by some, but I would love to see Duke - Manhattan Project on the iPhone. Or shadow complex (which I know has zero plans for an iphone port). I also realize they are not the traditional platformers that have been the topic, but thought I would throw that in there. 1 Bit Ninja looks so have a 2.5D aspect which is what got me thinking... When LOE comes out with a level editor, I am going to take a stab at some larger levels. Just hope there is no level size restriction. I think I know what is killing me about LOE right now and I have a good perspective because I just finished getting all briefcase and 3 stars today. Every single jump or movement is faced with the possibility of dying. There are no moves you can make wrong and survive (or just have some fun making some sweet double jumps with a kick or some fun walljumping just for the hell of it. At least in the Jungle levels it seems like that. Its tiresome!!! HAHA.
Which of these games have retina display updates? I want to get back to my huge back log of games but non-retina display games just look bad on the iPhone 4.

GAMEPLAY VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PMUMQB19HQ GAMEPLAY NOTES: The level progression for Lars is laid out like Super Mario Bros. Easier up front, much more difficult after the first few worlds. If you find it's too easy initially, don't worry. The later missions are much... much more challenging. Stick with it to the end, you won't regret it. PERFORMANCE GUIDE: Lars performs well on 2nd Generation iPods and Newer, and iPhone 3GS and Newer, as well as the iPad of course. iPhone3G is slower, but playable. First generation iPhone and iPod Touch not supported. If your gameplay seems slow, try switching to FULLSCREEN mode under Options for a speed boost. There's the sale this weekend, and I like the lite version a lot (even though it can get disorientating and makes me a bit dizzy...). I was interested in Mos Speedrun (cause of sale also), but I think I'd get too frustrated if I try for the speedruns. The lite versions levels are pretty short, and getting all the badges are fun (except for speedrun for me). The number of levels seems pretty small though... I have LoE, Pix'n Love Rush and Robot wants Kitty. I like LoE cause its fun and since the levels are really short, it keeps the frustration down a lot (aside for the impossible missions). Pix'n Love Rush is sort of fun, but I didn't really get hooked on it. RwK is fun (only played one level), but as I mention I'm not a big Metroidvania person... I'm sure I'd probably like the shorter/smaller missions... phattestfatty Well-Known Member Mar 9, 2010 2,136 0 0 #56 phattestfatty, May 15, 2011 IMO mos speedrun is better than soosiz. I got soosiz on a free sale a while back and deleted it w/o finishing cause I thought the pace was too slow. It is really long, more so than mos, but I dont really think mos is short at all. nikhsterboi Well-Known Member Jan 6, 2010 1,549 0 0 In an Apple store near you #57 nikhsterboi, May 15, 2011 Right with ya buddy. Can manage with Metroidvania, but don't prefer them over small, leveled games such as LoE. I would definitely make the recommendation if you like LoE not because Soosiz's levels are extremely short, but because time doesn't matter as much but still plays a part in the overall goal. alejobd New Member Apr 5, 2011 4 0 0 #58 alejobd, May 17, 2011 Last edited: May 17, 2011 I'm liking Soosik It is cute, simple but effective controls, easy, short levels and slow paced... Sometimes, you want to play an easy, short-leveled, slow paced game, just to relax a bit. IF that is what you are looking for/might like, the technical and artistic aspect wont disappoint you. cplr Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2011 468 0 0 #59 cplr, May 17, 2011 +1 for Pizza Boy. Only platformer that understands proper platforming jumping mechanics/physics. 5duc29 Well-Known Member Jun 8, 2009 1,570 0 0 #60 5duc29, May 17, 2011 Soosiz was fun at first but I lost interest by the fourth world. Hook Champ was awesome until I lost my progress :/ I think the Sonic series, Rolando (not Rolando 2) and Assassin's Creed: Discovery are the best thus far. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
