Yeah, we totally want to do the level editor. If Harbor Master does well, that will definitely be in an update. Keith already designed the whole code framework to support it.
+1 Other than that it looks like a pretty good game. I had one suggestion though. What if for every boat you successfully dock/un-dock you get a certain amount of points. Larger ships would take longer to unload. Medium sized ships would unload quicker than large ships but longer than small ships. Small ships would unload faster than both large and medium sized ships. Thus the larger the ship the more points you would get. Now you would use these points to buy stuff like an extra dock, a power that would slow ships down for a short period of time, etc. It would add a whole new layer to the game and make it distinct from Flight Control. Just an idea...
Bingo - that's EXACTLY how it works. The bigger the ship, the more cargo you get, but the longer it takes to unload.
We might just start with the people who have beta tested for us before, and if we don't get enough, we may recruit more here. We already have your info, so we'll send you a beta when we're ready.
Oh COME ON! Just looking at the screenshots I see a complete rip of flight control with bad graphics, can't people come up with their own game ideas for once?
Oh OK cool. I want to test . Wanted to make sure you still had my info. I think my iPod has been replaced since last time I beta tested so I'll PM you my new info. It does look similar to Flight Control ; however it is different. Firemint has yet to release an update with stuff that this game APPEARS to have. Plus the graphics are not that bad. Not like Flight Control looks a ton better anyways.
Are you kidding me danny? Flight control has a universal style applied to the graphics in their game, and not only do they look sharp, they look great for what it is. The bg for flight control reminds me of the cutout background you could find inside an old LCD game, it works. And while I can go and point out all the faults with the graphics on this game, thats not my gripe, my gripe is the fact that the gameplay is so similar. I guess thats what happens though, when you let just about anyone become a developer overnight with a few books and 99$.
Have you seen this developers other game Little Red Sled? It's a well made game with a pretty original concept. For this game though, the developers obviously saw how popular Flight Control is and wanted to make a game with more elements added to it. It looks pretty good to me and since Firemint don't seem to be hurrying up with another update this could be a good alternative to Flight Control. Here are two screenshots to compare anyway: Also I'm not too sure about the look of the sheep in Harbor Master...
Yeah it doesn't make sense to have sheep and tribal huts next to a harbor with no harbor buildings.... Also the sheep are very large, maybe the size of a pickup truck, if you look at the proportions between the trees/huts/boats/etc..
It doesn't look that bad but I hope some more polish is put on it before it is submitted at the end of May. I'm not too sure about the tree and sheep graphics, I think it would be better to redesign them at the same angle as the boats or visa versa.
Don't worry about the art too much guys... We are still working on the graphics and polish. This is a sneak peek remember! There is always a lot to do before it goes out the door. For instance, the in game dashboard that shows your cargo / record is simply a placeholder. We're also still playing around with the different objects and elements that go into each map and town. As for the relative size of sheep and houses, I'm not to concerned about that. Helicopters and Jumbo jets are the same size in Flight Control, and Snake hides in a cardboard box in the Metal Gear war zones. Since when are games realistic? ;-) -Keith
i think this looks a tad to close to flight control. i will still probably get it as long as updates flow in on an already fantastic app
You can compare the two but that's like saying there's only allowed be one racing game with tilt control cos the rest are rip offs. Or only one fishing game, or whatever.
I'm saying that even if you "homage" a game's mechanics you either need to have something that makes it fresh, or polish the hell out of it. As it stands it looks like an old Turbo Pascal game. Bu then again, maybe the devs will overhaul the visuals and animation before launch.
There should be marauding pirates! Seriously! What sea-faring game would be complete without random bandit attacks to steal your booty?
