See, the one game consist of multiple missions of different kind (infection, regroup, bomb squad, attack etc). You finish a mission, you unlock and upgrade more powerful units for the next mission. When it’s game over, you start over. Nothing carries over to the next game. This is not a rougelike! On top these there are modes like Hunt (hunting the giant alien), Transport (protecting a convoy), Bomb Squad (elimination of bomb threads), Infection (clearing the spread of an alien disease) etc. ColeDaddy likes this. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 999 113 #9 ste86uk, Mar 25, 2020 @macplash I didn’t love it lol I spent all my gaming time on the PC back then although it’s hard to remember what all that time ago. How long do runs last roughly? Are the units and skills you unlock and upgrade useful or just different? Like do you gradually get more powerful or would you just change things to suit your play style? So it is just an ever growing chain you need to fit on the screen and if so where do the enemies and shooting come into it? Edit: wrote this as you posted the videos I’ll check them out. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #10 macplash, Mar 25, 2020 Well, the classic snake is about that, yes. You eat fruit which makes you longer, and the goal is to fit to screen for as long as possible. In this case, the premise stays the same more or less, but there are different missions and goals to achieve. The only one resemblance to classic snake gameplay is the Regroup mission where there’s no shooting, you just picking up the rest of the troops (equivalent to fruit) and that makes you longer. You need to collect specific amount of troops in a specific period of time. Every other mission type is different from now on. Usually 90-120 seconds. Depends on time limit you’re given. Might be less (like 40 seconds to hunt down the giant alien or 30 seconds to survive an attack). You can pick up a power-up to increase the time limit. One game takes as many missions as you can complete. You can quit in between missions and pick up where you left later. It could be both actually. They’re definitely useful, but it’s up to you what you upgrade or unlock to fit you style the best. It’s still a pure arcade in its core so there’s no advanced strategy like making a different builds in Dead Cells for example. Then again, this is not a rougelike. It’s an action arcade, high score chaser. Pretty straightforward fun for short bursts or longer gaming sessions. Btw, it has 3 different control schemes to fit everyone’s needs perfectly. It’s swipe to change the directions by default. It’s an optional classic d-pad with 4 arrows. And it’s my all time favorite - just tap left or right side of the screen to change the direction from snake’s point of view. Takes a little bit of getting used to, but I wouldn’t play it any other way anymore. So, yeah. ste86uk likes this. The delay is simply not acceptable in this kind of game. Nobody reported back while testing? Pity! To make sure if there should be a problem only on my side, i deleted and re-dl the app again (incl. rebooting), but the same result for the swipe-delay as well as for the buttons. Look at the picture. Playing on an iphone 7, latest ios. Portrait just doesn’t work for this game. Map is too narrow and with that slight delay, it’s not a good mix. Portrait also has more issues than just the controls being cut off too. Text is cut off. Pause button doesn’t work. Stick with landscape and it’s a great game. Portrait needs work. One other issue is sometimes it can be hard to tell what is a true wall and what’s just background or on the floor. Qwertz555 Well-Known Member May 22, 2010 2,318 29 48 #13 Qwertz555, Mar 25, 2020 NOOOOO, i don’t wanne stick to landscape mode Unfortunately very true about background or wall. I guess that after an hour or two, i’ll recognize what is what. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #14 macplash, Mar 25, 2020 @Qwertz555 I reported the issue with delay using swipe controls. It was like the first thing. I hated dying or hitting the wall because of that. That’s when other control options were introduced. But I was probably the only one having this issue. I’m playing on iPad 6th gen 2018 which has the same processor as your iPhone 7, so I believe it’s an issue of older devices. My preferred control scheme (the 3rd one) works perfectly for me, no delay whatsoever. Just in case make sure you don’t have the delay option checked in the settings. Because yeah, it’s the thing even though I’m not sure if it’s enabled by default. @anthony78 despite the fact I’m on your ignore list I’m gonna respond anyway. At least for others. I’ve never tried Portrait mode. It’s pointless, especially on on iPad. It’s not comfortable to play that way (for me), so didn’t even occur to me to try. And you’re right about walls and roadblocks on the floor blending with the background, especially in the shadows or on sides of the map. But this issue goes away after a few gameplays as you get familiar with the visual style and invisible grid placement in general. chengchisang Well-Known Member May 25, 2018 119 31 28 #15 chengchisang, Mar 25, 2020 I pre-order this and what a blast! Playing in landscape with swipe controls as well. I did notice the turning could be a little more responsive but I’m finding it pretty workable. I wish I could talk more now but I have to go in to work. Quickly just wanted to say the story on startup is cut off on the right side of the screen in both portrait and landscape - something that could easily be addressed in an update. Another problem is accidentally putting the game in the background by swiping up at the bottom for phones that don’t have a home button. At least the game pauses and I can get back in. I’ll report back later (today or tomorrow) but I’m really liking this so far. macplash Well-Known Member Apr 17, 2014 2,645 1,103 113 Male 3D artist Munich, Germany #17 macplash, Mar 25, 2020 Yep, I reported this as well, but I guess it's not as easy to fix. Also the problem with people reporting "lag" or "delay" can often refer to something completely different. Please keep in mind that your soldiers can't move directly, but always move along the lines/grid based.. which might explain a feeling of lag, but in reality isn't. As for the buttons: you can resize them, bigger/smaller, and place them where you prefer First small update is coming: - fixed: possible crash in upgrade screen - fixed: possible crash tapping old mission - fixed: text in intro not fitting screen - oops! last minute code change Anotherkellydown and anthony78 like this.
