    Saw this game come up under new apps and was wondering if anyone has tried it. If anyone gets it, I'd love to see what you think. The screenshots look very well done. The explanation intrigues me, but I'm not sure it's worth $4.99. Looks like a lot of other matching games with a bit of a twist. Here is the description and link from the app store:

    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=294911522&mt=8

    SMILES is two great games with 14 different game modes. Created for players of all skill levels, the games are designed NOT to pressure you in to acting before you're ready. Play at your own pace. Experienced players don't have to wait. You can make moves right away! Extend combos and score big!

    DROP is inspired by games like Bejeweled and Tetris. Make matches, break Ice and Rocks to score points. Twist your way to high scores with REAL GRAVITY!

    ZEN is inspired by games like Solitaire and Mahjongg, with the depth of Sudoku. Light up the board to win.

    FEATURES
    * 3 cheerful themes
    * High Scores and Statistics
    * Over 140 Achievements
    * Listen to your music
    * Pause Menu Clock

    First impressions are good, it's a pretty polished game and the different gameplay modes are fun. I've only spent 10 minutes on it, but I'm liking it so far.

    Hey there, I'm the developer behind Smiles.

    My apologies that there isn't even a gameplay video yet. I've been working on this game for the past 4 month, submit it Tuesday morning, and wasn't expecting to see it approved and for sale as early as today (Thursday).

    I've been scrambling since this afternoon to get things in a meaningful shape. I just finished pulling together the press pack, which can now be found on the website.

    The video(s) might take a day or so to finish up. I'll certainly let you know when that's ready.

    Oh, and mad props to Matt for taking the early plunge. :D

    PoV, just picked this up. Awesome little game, really cute design and lots going on visually. I'll definitely be playing this for a while and I'm willing to place a whole heap of money that my daughter will as well. Very polished.

    I hope you do really well with this game.

    I can't wait for the video. I am excited to see what this game is all about. Glad to see that others are enjoying it already!

    Alright, it's taken me a couple days, but here's a "hands on" video.

    NOTE: This is now the "long" version. Scroll down for the shorter one.

    It's heavily edited, yet still clocks in at over 6 minutes. In it, I walk through typical games of Drop, Zen and Avalanche (a Drop variant). One thing I could have done better was show that you really can take it slow. If you wait or can't find a move, the game gives you a hint.

    Because of time, I didn't get to show Long Play or Six. Long Play gives you much more time to do the faster moves you see me doing in Drop. And in retrospect, Six I should have named Survival, since if you're not careful, the game can end in as few as 2 moves.

    I'm working on a 2nd video now for those who don't have 6 minutes, hopefully covering what I've mentioned here ... all in less time somehow. ;)

    Ok, keep hearing from people that the video is too long (at 6 minutes, it totally is), so I'm going to edit it down even more. Hopefully by the end of the day.

    Thanks for the video. It looks like a fun game, different from a lot of the other matching games!! I'll be getting it today! :)

    So maybe I'm just not doing it right, but how do I break the rocks? I've gotten pretty far on drop, and I've rotated around and the rocks have dropped from top to bottom, but they never seen to break. What am I doing wrong??

    To break rocks, you need to make a match of 4 or more anywhere beneath them. So keep an eye out for a pair and a single for the easiest way to break one.

    Here's an example:

    Lot's of fun and run with this app.

    Nice layout. EYE CANDY everywhere!

    It'll take me a couple of days of play to wrap up a report.

    Lot's going on in this one. Very original. Twists and turns going on throughout the game play.

    HAVING FUN.

    Wow, so expensive! I would be mad if I got this and then the price dropped. But if the price never drops, I would be wary of spending so much for an app store app as most of them I have tried so far have been fairly forgettable.

    One question, how is this on the battery? I have a regular old iPod Touch (not a phone one) and most games have been fine, but ever since Lux Touch drained my battery almost completely with an hour of use, I am wary of games with heavy graphics...

    Are you going to answer my questions about the price and the battery?

    Sure. Sorry about that.

    To be honest, I'm not sure what the battery life is. You'll have to give me a day or so to put it through it's paces. I've charged up both my iPod's, and I'll be handing them over to my tester to answer that question for us both.

    I'm actually glad you brought that up. Something I've been curious about myself is how much battery life pushing the graphics takes. And after I have the battery stats, I'd like to do some battery life experiments by cutting the framerate. If it's significant enough, I'll include a "battery save" feature in the next update.

    The whole price drop ordeal, I know exactly what you mean. It's become extremely jarring as a developer to watch so many games fluctuate in price. Game comes out at $7.99, then a week later it's $2. How are you supposed to build any sort of loyalty or respect with nonsense like that? It's a frustrating state of affairs for us both.

    So here's how it is. I have no plans to drop the price before the end of the year. And seeing how January follows the holiday and gift giving season, I'm willing to say you won't see a drop in January either. I stand by my product and believe the price is fair. I genuinely think the price should stick for a whole 6 months, but with so much uncertainty in the market, 3 is all I can commit to at this point. It's a shame really, but I hope that's enough.

    And there it is. :)

    I have to say, I think the price is fair. I have paid so much more for games on my PC or DS where after I have them, I wish I hadn't spent the money. To me, $5 is very fair...I've already gotten like 4 hours of game play out of it (and only had it for 1 day!) I definitely see myself going back to this game over and over again, and for $5, I think this is a great value. But this is just my humble opinion :)

    I have to agree with fpugirl, I've spent hours enjoying this game to far justify the price. The replay value and polish of the game makes it well worth it.
