Something that has been bugging me for a while now. I mainly want to know if it's just my computer (a netbook).

I have over 1300 apps on iTunes. It takes FOREVER to scroll through the list when adding or choosing apps to my Touch. It's so bad that I almost never use it anymore, which sucks because I would like to use that function.

QUESTION 1: Is it super slow on other computers too? Or is it because I have a netbook?

Also, I noticed when you have tons of apps on a Touch(4th gen 64GB) it also gets sluggish. I guess I will have to do a clean out soon. What is the point of Apple giving us folders if we can't have tons of apps at once? *sigh*

QUESTION 2: If I delete tons of apps from iTunes, can I add them back easily from a backup folder by just copying and pasting? Or do I have to re-download them from App Store for iTunes to register them as present?

For Q1: Yes, it was slow on my early 2008 macbook pro. I never use the App tab to sync my apps. And I never ever use the iTunes Apps view to see all my apps. Ive gotten used to it. What might help is actually to just archive away all the apps that you no longer use to an external hard drive.

For Q2: No idea. You can try with a free app or something and see if it works. I know you can move the files out and itll be fine. iTunes will just say that it cant find certain apps. But im not sure about actually deleting both the file and the entry from the library.

Not slow on my PC, i can't "scroll" through them and have the app names and icons update as i'm scrolling but as soon as i let go of the mouse button, they appear. And i think you might be able to just copy and paste them since you can do with songs and that's the point of a backup folder but i'm not 100% sure

    Even launching iTunes is slow....

Everything after that is frustration. If I can get away with not having to sync with iTunes I'd don't sync to iTunes.

I never use iTunes at all. Too many restrictions that make syncing a 64GB iPad unbearable.

I get why they have all the purchase transfer policies, but the people it's hurting the most are people with a TON of purchases. Not some hacker that doesn't use iTunes anyways.

i have a fairly decent quad core PC, and the the Apps tab/page for the device is just simply UNUSABLE. Scrolling take forever and ALWAYS bugs up (unresponsive and scrolls all the way down taking well over 3 minuets where u can't do anything)

Yes I guess all you can do is simply remove all your downloaded apps and archive them somewhere, but that really shouldn't be the way.

Thanks everyone. You answered my questions perfectly. Looks like iTunes just sucks.

I'll have to do a cleaning out of my apps I guess. I do have them all backed up, so I guess I won't actually lose them. Stupid Apple. I bought a 64GB device so I could use lots of apps. Do they not want people buying lots of apps???

Exactly right. Again, stupid Apple and crappy iTunes.

Yea well I'm not going to get started on my rant on iTunes but it has always been that way. It was mentioned of using an external drive for previous games played and I'd like to add pending games also and that's what I'm looking into in the very near future.

Yup. The external drive should just show up in your "My Computer" window (or whatever the same thing is for OSX; Finder, is it?), and you can just drag and drop, cut and paste, whatever floats your boat.

I understand that you can. I'll be in the market for one shortly but friends have said it's very easy to use. I welcome this then because I tried to use one of those older purple iOmega (not sure of spelling on this) drives once (years ago) and it never worked properly and shied away from them since. But technology has simplified them since and going for it. I'm looking into the big boys of ext drives which are terabyte capacity.

Chocolate!!! This has been a problem for me since 2009! You hit the nail on the head. iTunes simply sucks for syncing multiple apps, especially in large amounts. WiFi is my best friend nowadays.

I hate itunes myself my ipods the first device I've owned I cant just drag and drop things onto easily and I really don't like it. Itunes seems to go out of it's way to do things that annoy me as an example I restored from a backup a few days ago and during the backup restore it insisted on making a backup.

Every other device these days can sync wirelessly but were still forced to use this trash just so apple can sell their cables. It's sad but itunes really is one of the worst, most annoying and buggiest programs I've ever seen on a PC and the same goes for quicktime.

I just posted this at the Apple message board regarding this, so will just copy my post.

For the love of Pete, please fix this Apple! iTunes for Windows is a hog, and this is by far the hoggiest part of iTunes. It borders on completely unusable, the only way is to be very patient and precise with dragging the scroll bar. If you mess up, you have to switch to another application and then come back to iTunes 5 minutes later while it is sloowwwwllllyyy scrolling all the way down (or up) the application list.

I have no idea why it is like this.

iTunes works well on Macs. I know that's not much help, but there you go. They need to start iTunes over from scratch. Even on the Mac there's areas I'd like improved.

Regarding not being able to drag and drop - actually you can. Even with syncing (non-manual management) on, you can drag stuff from the iTunes library and drop it on the icon for you iPod/iPhone/iPad in the sidebar and it will copy it onto it. If you want complete drag and drop control you can turn on manual management for your iPhone/etc. Then it's all drag and drop, although it's still within iTunes. You can even, then, put stuff onto it from multiple computers. Syncing is nice, though, if you don't need that. I have a smart playlist I sync that always gets my latest 4 GB worth of purchases/additions (talking about songs, here) onto my iPhone, for example. Stuff like that.
