You will start to see the value of Slay the Spire when you begin ascensions and build strategies to reach Act 4. A first few hours of StS is not that spectacular, but when you know the mechanics like the back of your hand, everything starts to click. I have played both game. Pirates Outlaws is excellent and I played both the Steam and iOS version but StS just have something PO does not and that's probably why someone said PO pales in comparison. I cannot express that something in words but once you start ascensions, you'll see it

I’ve got an ascension 3 run of The Defect on my Mac from last year...(this isn’t my first version of StS). I agree, ascensions are great, and my ascension wasn’t that high, ok, but I’ve seen it, and I don’t believe they make PO pale by comparison, but I look forward to going higher in the iOS version now, so I’ll see.
But nor do I think that’s exactly where the first comment about “pale in comparison” was directed or they would’ve said that.

Anyway, I’ve done enough de-railing. That’s it from me about this topic.

Hehe. It’s still early days for me. I’ve had 2 runs with Ironclad and only 1 with the rest each.

The most I enjoyed was The Silent. Just applying poison and piling blocks was fun. Especially on heavily armoured dudes as poison can bypass armour. The Watcher’s stance-dancing was fun as well. But The Watcher is kinda like living on the edge. One wrong move with Wrath and you might bite off more than you can chew. Moreover, you need to be way more careful with The Watcher whereas The Silent allows you room to be reckless when needed. (Depending on the cards and relics of course)

So as of now, it’s The Silent and The Watcher.

My next run would be with Ironclad. Let’s see how that goes.

I’m on another run right now with the ironclad, taking a break before the second boss though. I picked up Necronomicon (first attack card each turn worth 2 or more is played twice), and whirlwind (basically 8 damage x mana). Add in some strength buff and potentially every turn or second turn can be pretty decent damage. It’s good fun.

Defect is my favorite by far. I loved his mechanics the most then I won the first time ever when I first tried defect. The orbs are incredible. I feel like he is significantly easier to play than the other classes personally.

I found the Necrobook to be quite worth it. It seemed like a bad sacrifice at first but I was able to do massive damage with the stronger cards.

An I missing something? Just bought this and all the card text appears below the bottom of the screen. Have to half drag each card up to find out what it does? All I can see by default is the card cost.

    Surely this isn’t right?

Unfortunately that's exactly how it's supposed to be. That's kind been one of the major complaints in the thread pertaining the how the UI wasn't modified very well for mobile. The card placement and gesture system should've been done differently on not-pc screens.

...and that’s exactly right. The thing about how the cards don’t have the text fully visible while in your hand (rather are half up out of the screen) is actually EXACTLY just like how it is on PC/Mac.
We all want everything on iOS to be larger and smoother, but that the cards aren’t fully visible in the hand by default, well that’s just how the game is regardless of platform.

It’s not great UI for any platform but it is made easier by the ease of dragging a mouse pointer over the cards as on PC, watching them each flick up to be immediately viewed. So I think a case could be made for having them all stand up above the screen as default on iOS.......but then again what do you do when you hold a massive hand of cards like what happens with the Runic Pyramid relic. With Runic Pyramid you could have to hold your whole deck of like 40 cards in your hand.....

Anyway, I just hope they can make things bigger in general and make the hand management more fluid is my hopes for an update. But I think that could be major works.....else they would’ve done it already, right?

Yeh sorry to say that’s actually EXACTLY how it is for all platforms of the game. You’ll get used to it by learning the images of the cards, trust me.
Not supporting it, but that’s how it is.

The hand interaction UI needs to be tweaked/improved and text enlarged though. Hopefully that happens.
Right now we basically have a 1 for 1 copy/paste, PC to iOS screen.

But on the Switch where I also have this game, I didn’t notice this issue at all; it plays like a dream. It’s definitely been implemented with substandard UX here.

Are you sure? While I don’t have it on switch, but was expecting the same as PC, and from what I can see it does look exactly the same.
Take for instance this review video.

Cards are most definitely sitting chopped off at the bottom, until you select them.

If you want to see all cards without having to select them individually while in hand, well I’m still quite sure no platform does that, and same thing is on display in video above.
My UI on Xs Max seems pretty near to what’s shown for the switch, just a smaller screen again, which is where they should’ve done some work to scale it up a bit.

But if you mean you want to see the card when you have selected it, then try doing exactly this: Tap in the top centre of the card.

If you tap any lower on the card, it won’t jump up as much.

So far I’ve had the most luck with The Silent, plus I enjoy the poison gameplay. On my last run I had a card that did 10 damage per energy and cards that give me more energy and debuffed the enemy so on some turns I was able to do 50-100 damage.

Although I’m not very good at this game yet, any advice on those big red elite guys that stack strength whenever you use a skill? I’ve tried just not using skills but then you still take a lot of damage but if you use them even for block he just does even more damage?

While it is hard to give some specific advise because there are so many variables, you should just all out attack.

Since he does not get raged from potions, potion of block will help migrate the damage, as well as attack potion that gives you free attacks.

Anyways, I don’t think there is a certain strategy to pull off no damage against him. If I remember correctly, he shows up in Act1 where your deck is mostly common cards as well, so you don’t have much options but to chip him with strikes.

    Love the game so far.
Just wondering if anyone is having crashing issues.
Just lost a great run and the game reset.
    Crashing is happening often

Didn’t go so well on that run with the silent, going to try defect again as I’ve only tried him once and it sometimes feels like luck plays a part in the cards your offered. Sometimes you want a certain build but end up having to try and change your plan because you don’t get what you need.

That's very true. Luck in cards and relics is a major factor and I think that's what makes these games enjoyable in that everything is pretty random and you have to make do with what you have. Since you can't get the exact items you want every run you have to learn to adapt to whatever you get. Many of the boss relics are like this since you get a random set and most of them have some kind of downside.

Oh gosh, that is probably one of my most hated enemies in the game. That and the thorny ball. Those two are regular enemies and they play like bosses to me. When I see either of those two I regret clicking on that route.

    ---

Still really enjoying this game. I finally won with Silent. I think my potions ended up saving me even though I rarely use them. I had to abuse them a bit to heal up. Sometimes I draw 0 block cards and I have to eat all the damage :(

So now I just have to win with The Watcher. I might have to reevaluate my favorites and put Watcher last. I started to enjoy the poison mechanics of Silent once I focused on making my deck as poison as possible instead of trying to "balance" the cards. The Watcher was fun with my first failed run but I keep thinking about how she's the most risky of every character. The rage mode seems to be the base of her power and that's dangerous to use unless you have a way to turn it off. And the Watcher seems to rely more on getting the perfect cards than any other class, though she does have retain cards to help a little.

From not finding any time to play I’ve now managed to steal away just under 6 hours with the game and I’m still enjoying it. Unlocking new cards is making me see new possibilities for builds which makes me want to play more.

I’m on a pretty great run at the minute with Ironclad after picking up an alien egg at my first ? Since then it’s upgraded every skill card for free whenever I got one which has been very helpful.

Cloud save is not an issue to me so I would rather have the UI fixed.

Good for you but how am I going to play on my iPhone during the day and continue my progress on my iPad at night?

iCloud is a must, I’m sorry i rather play clones that supports it tbh.
