I'm pretty sure it's designed to force the player to get hit on purpose. Getting through, even on normal difficulty without getting hit by the EMP is near impossible, at least for people without super reflexes and incredible patience. The dev said as much, as there's a special achievement if you make it. Reading the level requirements, there's no mention of making it through with 100% or 75% enemy destruction either. You can complete all the objectives by letting yourself get hit by the EMP.
I've yet to complete level five in Hard Mode, the objectives are the same though, but there's more bullets on screen. If it's like lvl 4 and 6, it really gets hard on Insane Mode.
I just cleared stage 5 on easy. Is it even possible to avoid being hit by the submarine blast? Don't forget to upgrade your wing cannons and shield. They lowered the upgrade cost for today.
I just got through it on the easiest difficulty without getting hit by the EMP. The strategy I used was to circle around the map to avoid the EMP while detroying the turrets to keep the area clear of bullets. All of my weapon upgrades are fully upgraded through, except for the three at the bottom (Laser, Sheild, and Mega Bomb). I'm no pro mind you - just makes it easier to have powerful weapons and zig-zag around like I mentioned. Hope this helps!
i threw in the towel trying to pass level 5. no more iap for me until they tweak that a bit. I see people doing it but its mind boggling how difficult it is and also how little you enjoy the level. i don't find watching my finger avoiding a trail blob much fun lol
I'd encourage to try a little more. I just tried it finally, and beat it on my 4th try, on Normal difficulty. I'd say it was actually one of the easier levels to complete once I got the hang of it. I did not try to avoid the EMP, I just let it hit me and then focused on finding a good path through the bullets and laser beams. It does require thinking ahead a little and paying attention to the patterns, so you don't end up getting boxed in. I definitely don't think it needs to be tweaked to be easier. If you're trying to beat it while avoiding the EMP then yes, that seems very difficult.
I agree, now that I tried it I found it pretty easy to get through, at least on Normal. I think a lot of people initially think they're supposed to avoid the EMP the whole time, and then assume they failed as soon as it hits them. bckrupps on the previous page mentioned "trying to avoid a trail blob", so I think that was the case for him. Trying to avoid the EMP is really hard, at least I think so. I don't know how long it would have taken me to realize I didn't need to avoid the EMP if I hadn't read it here. Although the fact that all the projectiles move much slower than on other levels is a good clue that you're supposed to be able to dodge them.
There is a GC achievement as well if you take out all the towers on Level 5. Once you have fully upgraded weapons, it is pretty easy to achieve on easy level. I will try it on Hard soon just for fun.
Any idea why my achievements aren't syncing properly between devices? Some achievement I unlocked on my iPad does not show up on iphone, and the progress (#of person rescued, etc.) are not correct either.
I tried to ue your strategy after reading your post, and I almost made it to the end. It's not nearly as hard as I initially thought. I'm sure I'm going to make it.
Yes!! I made it through level five without getting hit by the EMP. After reading the advice here, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I initially thought. Apparently, I'm Awesome. I have the achievement that says so, anyway.
