Same here. I did it twice too, but to no avail. I thought maybe i got hit just before i got a heart so i didnt notice the damage taken, but with another posting regarding this, then it may be a bug. I also saw on one of the results screens that i got the +5000 points bonus for not getting hit, but then i didnt get the medal for it.
I got a couple of push notifications saying that certain upgrades are now on sale. But when I go to the hangar, the prices haven't changed?
Is the hp upgrade any good? I've got 1 level in it and it doesn't seem to make much difference on stage 1.
All the upgrades is in very, very small increments. Basically, when you've filled all the squares in level one of an upgrade, you can do it twice more.
Besides the first two upgrades (health and cannon) which in your opinion should I unlock first? Will one impact my game more than another?
Thanks. I thought I was pretty weak but that was before you told me about filling the squares a few more times.
I found the wing cannons and missiles to be very useful in completing the "kill all enemies" objectives, since they widen your aim and make it more likely hit stuff. The magnet is very useful to boost your earnings since you'll end up picking up more stars. It also makes it so you don't have to go as far out of your way to get the stars which can make it easier to avoid getting hit. I'd maybe advise upgrading the magnet first, since it helps you earn more stars which in turn allows you to upgrade the other things quicker.
Try to unlock an active powerup too. The starting laser's pretty good in normal against the battleship bosses. Pretty handy too when you need to move away from incoming bullets but needed an extra burst to take out that tower/turret before moving away.
I only upgraded magnet fully 1st level which felt enough for me. It does feel like it's more worth it to upgrade magnet earlier is more worth it. I'm currently upgrading missiles first before the wing cannon just so the missiles can get targets that's not in front of me, even though at the current level (half way on the 3rd stage) it still fires slow...but powerful. But guess it depends on your play style. I should probably listen to Exact-Psience advice and try the active skills too. I haven't unlocked any of them, yet...
This is where I'm at right now on upgrades, I have all medals for normal through stage 4 and hard medals for stages 1-2. As you can see I focused on main cannon from the start for awhile then branched into the others. Once you get to stage 5 you won't be able to earn medals without the magnet, so it's a personal preference to wait on that upgrade until then. Stage 3 & 4 normal are the easiest to farm stars. They can net you about 300-500 per run. I wouldn't waste stars on active power ups unless you are really really having trouble with normal difficulty. You won't see a big difference in wing cannons until I am thinking high into it's upgrade, but it's still good to have because it widens your shot. You'll see a significant difference in damage for every upgrade in missiles, however I wouldn't unlock them for damage, they serve a different purpose - missiles fire off screen alerting you of where enemy planes will be trailing onto screen allowing you to set up your position. This is handy for completing both the 100% killed enemies, and no damage medals. I also wouldn't worry about health until stage 5.
I just completed "Stay Untouched" for level 5 on Hard. I was actually trying for "Collect 100% of stars" (missed one somewhere - got 99%). This is a good level for collecting stars to upgrade. As you can't spend stars on power-ups... a perfect run will net you roughly 2300 stars. Go get em.
Ok, just completed hard mode for Level 5. Here are some tips if you are getting frustrated: 1. Upgrade your magnet! 2. At the start, get hit by pulse immediately and then hug top left area to collect stars. Once you have them all, move quickly to bottom right and try to be above the first two lasers. This helps you lead the turret bullets out of the way as to try to rescue the first human. Makes the fist section bearable. 3. You can actually fly behind the laser turrets in some sections, giving you some breathing space. Don't know why I didn't try this earlier. 4. You have to lead the turret shots. I usually try to get them to fire up a side. Wait till the last shot for that turret before it moves off screen and then rush over to your next objective (stars, people, etc). This makes for a lot less dodging. 5. Pick one objective you are trying to achieve each run. I have yet to get all four in one run (that will come later when I have unlocked all areas. 6. Remember, each run gets at least some stars so...you are making progress! Hope that helps alleviate some rage/frustration. Good luck.
Hi everyone. REALLY enjoying this game, especially now that the star-doubler has been made available. I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but I'm enjoying this far more than Cave's shooters! This is a different style of game, closer to the types I grew up with. For me, this is the best scrolling shooter on iOS. I've managed to max out all of the weapon upgrades, and I'm now working on the shield, laser and smart bomb. They come in very handy when going for the medals on insane difficulty! If anyone wants to, please add me in game centre: poppichicken
Ipad 4. I suspect it would be much more difficult on am Iphone as some moves need to be very precise.
iPad Air. I tried it on my iPhone 4, but, like most games, it's way too small to really enjoy the game. Besides, with that amount of bullets, and some of them very, very small, it's all but impossible to complete many of the missions. It's smooth and exceptionally beautiful on my iPad Air.
A Screenshot of my hangar screen: I've concentrated on the main cannon, missiles and wing cannons. I've got the main cannon fully upgraded now, and will do the same for missiles and wing cannons. Health isn't as important, have it full on level 2. In the beginning, I put a lot of point on the Magnet, which is important. I don't think I'll put more points in it now. Laser, Shield and Megabomb is great, invaluable against the bosses.
^Agreed on health. It isnt important since you'll most likely be aiming to not get hit at all anyways coz of the medal.
I wish there were more gameplay videos of this on the iPad, I would love to see it played strategically on the bigger screen.
