Since I've been playing a lot of bullet hell shooters lately, I've realized I often push on the screen harder than necessary, especially when I tense up. I've been purposefully training myself to relax my muscles and touch the screen as lightly as possible while still keeping consistent control. I find this helps me react quicker, and I don't irritate my fingertips. When I started playing this game I actually found myself pushing harder on the screen, I think because the ship moves slower than I was used to from the other shmups I've been playing, so I'd unconsciously push harder as if that would force the ship over to where my finger was.
Why the hell mustn't I use the extras like shield and mega bomb in level 5? A new special feature? Or just another bug? While speaking of level 5: is there even any chance to fight this annoying e-rocket-thingy? Or is this following you the whole level?!?
The point of level 5 is to survive to the end of the level, without being able to use any weapons. They are disabled by the EMP Rocket the Submarine shoots at you. I haven't been able to avoid the Rocket for very long without dying, but the developer says that it's possible and that there are achievements for doing so. That's for the very, very good players though. Just let the EMP Rocket hit you, and sneak between the bullets, pick up as many men and stars that you can, and survive to the end. My issue with that level is that even though I've cleared the level several times now and, as far as I know, picking up all the stars, I can't get the medal for doing so. There must be a hidden star somewhere that I just can't find, and it's staring to piss me of... Has anyone gotten the medal for all stars on level 5?
So even if you have the medals you can't play stage 7? For me it depends on the challenge I am trying to complete - destroying 100% enemies, 100% stars, rescuing all humans I use option 1 as it keeps my ship nice and tight on control, however for taking no damage I use option 2. Control setting 1 for taking no damage through a run is hit or miss for me as it has a tendency to rubberband your ship into harm if you release your finger at any time and then try to place your finger back to resume. This effect can be beneficial though for trying to collect stars as you can release your finger, then place it back on the screen in a position far from your ship and it'll bounce back really fast to your finger placement - good for catching those stray stars in corners.
Yup. It's some sort of ploy to try to get players to nag their friends to play the game. A few pages back the developer said they'll reconsider that. Personally I would never for a nanosecond consider nagging my friends to play a game just because some game is trying to manipulate me into doing so with some in-game reward. Having said that, I can imagine this sort of ploy might work on some people if the game gave you some goal that you could actually achieve on your own. For example if it said "get three of your friends to play the game" and gave you some way of showing you did that, I could imagine some people going for it. However in this case the developer is saying "go nag all your friends to play the game. But you still won't get any reward unless 95,000 people all play to level 6, which you have no control over, so your nagging might all be in vain anyway." I think it's pretty misguided on the developer's part to think many people are going to go for this.
Oh well, it's been a nice game up till stage 4 so far, so I guess I have two more levels and then I can probably move on from this. I do love arcade games like this, but I wish more would implement incentives to stick around besides high scores, such as new plane skins, or colors, something unlockable to slightly make my experience new. I quit Facebook years ago, so there's really no point to me sitting around waiting for the last levels to unlock. Are there even any ads in this game? I see the IAP for an ad remover, but I've played a good 5-6 hours already and haven't ran across one ad.
That's strange that you haven't seen any ads. I saw ads right way, and they popped up frequently in the menus. There were some full screen ads, and also banner ads along the top on the hangar screen. I bought the ad remover IAP and haven't seen one since.
Because I'm a nice guy (and hope the devs throw me a bone with a free Star Doubler ) I made a quick gameplay vid of Stage 4 completing the No Damage medal. Sorry to those who can't view this in other countries, but I have to explode things in style so I usually play to a soundtrack rather than the in game music. Enjoy!
Ah, ok, thank you for clarifying this. Don't think I will ever finish this level, even without stars ... :-/ Though I wonder now why I spended thousends of stars to upgrade my weapons. Damn, everytime I think I'm about to accept this game, it comes with something new to annoy me ...
Where do you find add removal in this game? Can't locate iap store, must be the worst implementation ever )
This game is a little ..., er, special ... You have to spend 1000 stars on upgrades first, this will unlock the IAPs. See, you have to earn the right to spend your money ...
Yeah, the shopping cart icon appears on the hangar/upgrade screen, right below where it lists how many coins you have. However for some reason which the developer hasn't explained yet, they make it so the shopping cart doesn't appear until you've spent at least 1000 stars in the upgrade shop. So buy some upgrades for your ship and the cart icon will eventually appear. My guess about why they did this is that it's actually well-intentioned, and they want people to play the game enough to be sure they like it before spending money on it. I think that's being unnecessarily protective of users, but if they're determined to do that they definitely should make it clear that this is the case instead of leaving new users mystified about why they can't find where to buy IAPs. They should put the cart icon there from the beginning, but make it display a message when pressed explaining that you need to spend 1000 stars before you can buy IAPs.
Don't worry, there's plenty of opportunity to use your upgraded weapons after level five. You will get through it, trust me. Also, just in case you haven't read it earlier in the tread - competing all the objectives on any level, opens up a harder difficulty on the level. Then do it again, and a third difficulty level reveals itself. Normal - Hard and Insane. There's so many hours of gameplay in this game, it's wonderful! Also, each weapon upgrade have three tiers, so you can upgrade fully once, then do it twice more. The more I play this game, the more it opens up with more opportunities. It's really, really good. The best on the AppStore IMO. Before anyone comes around and says that Cave games are better, they're really not the same genre. Besides I like this game better than any bullethell shooter, but that's a matter of taste. This game reminds me of my misspent youth in the arcades, blowing my weekly allowance on shmups done the old fashioned way, before anyone thought of making a BulletHell game.
You have to spend 1000 stars, then a shopping cart icon, a really small one, is revealed in the upper left hand corner of the upgrade screen. I was baffled too, trying to give money to the developer, and couldn't find any way to do so. I have no idea why they choose to do it this way, it's baffling... I ended up buying all the IAP's, except for the consumable "buy 5000 stars". $6 The game is worth every penny.
Sorry, but I got to say this: hiding that the purchase button until you have gathered 1000 stars is an awful design choice. Why in god's name would you want to do that? Besides why is that purchase button placed in the hangar menu? Does that make any sense? And why is the button so tiny? Just so it gets a little bit more difficult to find it? I was going absolutely crazy trying to find it, this just shouldn't be.
I did that for over 20yrs with joypads and now I suffer excess pain. That's why I'm now on the ipod. It was a good thing in that I've discovered games I never would have otherwise. So keep doing those relaxation excercises.
Little Dragon - Pretty Girls off their latest album Nabuma Rubberband. And thanks for the compliment!
Beautiful game. The graphics are excellent and gameplay is excellent. The only problem is timers but that's how these independent developers make money in this competitive industry.
