We rely on in-app purchase revenue to make new games and updates, and to feed ourselves Although some consider virtual goods to be "fake" items, they do in fact have a cost to produce. Each plane or war zone we add to the game takes a specific amount artist time, developer time, tester time and designer time. To make this system return-on-investment positive (or at least neutral), we need to charge money for some of these items. Our goal is to make a free online multiplayer dogfighting game that everyone can enjoy, and for those people that REALLY enjoy it, they can purchase additional content and items. So - my point to all this is Yes: in-app purchases will cost a lot of talons to buy, but not so much that the well-skilled pilot would not purchase them. The explanations reasonable alright. I never thought it unreasonable to expect them not to worry about money! I do think that purchasing all the consumable gear does risk giving the appearance of strong arming people for money. I realize that based on what they are saying, they have to do it, and it makes a lot of sense as to why they do it. They can spend the investment in time and effort once on an item and continue to generate money off of it from a given player more than once. I get that they need to make money, that's one of the reasons why I got a crappy new tempest and a green zero! I do wish though that they could find a way to generate the money they need with out all the consumable gear. I appreciate that in FAST they are now going with this talon system, to let the skilled players get a hold of the consumables without constantly buying them. That shows that they do care, and are in fact trying to do everything they can to balance the players desires with their needs. I'm not particularly fond of this idea, but I get it... I'll live with it if need be. I however do hope that in the case of SoG they can figure out a way to produce new planes cheaply enough to sell a lot of them so they can avoid the consumables if at all possible! Hell I personally don't mind if the planes are kind of pricey.. as long as it would allow them to keep the consumables out of the equation. But they are the ones who know what has to be done to continue to provide us a great game we can all enjoy! It's in everyone's interest that SoG does well, and I hope to see more and more new players to the game! For my part, I will continue to buy every single plane they release, no matter how crappy it might be! About that, how about that P-38 we're all dying for guys??? We really want to get our hands on that puppy, so hows about handing over the goods already!
