Statement: I was just kidding in the girl part. I am born and raised in a place soaked with Japanese anime subculture, so I guess it is an acquired taste. As a matter of fact, many local gamers here who have played this title on XB appreciate the eye candies and presentation, and some even go to the point questioning the price of Japanese bullet hell shooters.
I haven't seen ANY shooter, based on the console versions, that looks better than Sine Mora. Nothing. Ever. The depth of these environments is astonishing. I swear to God, I truly am tempted to get an X-Box just to play this game.
When I was commenting on the graphics of this game, I wasn't just thinking about artwork and special effects, it's also the way 3D is implemented to in the amazing transitions when entering a new area and the wonderful design of the bosses in this game. On the prize issue on Japanese Shmups, I guess it's cool for them to have a high price point as long as people are willing to pay. I wish more devs had opportunity to stick to higher prices on the AppStore for high quality games and still make a profit. It seems to me were in a transitional phase now where a lot of great games are being released at premium prices by some big players in the market, I just hope it pays off and freemium games takes a backseat in the future and will be limited to more casual games.
I do like the Cave graphics, i dont like 'anime girls' at all though, find that quite worrying/disturbing i must admit ! Cartoon images of young girls dressed up provactively, odd Love the graphics in Sine Mora, is like an old skool shooter but with updated graphics (so with a 'tinge' of older shooters)
Another review on mactech.com. Same issues pointed out here in regards to control options and Facebook integration.
Well it seems even pocket gamer game this game a glowing review... As a guy who wished for this game to be on our platform,I must say I am quite happy how it turned-out and enjoyed playing it..
Sure, I can play them. It just strike me as a bit juvenile, is all. I don't have any moral objections, after all, they aren't naked, they're just pixels on a screen and there's no sexuality in the games, it's just an art form that strike me as, well, juvenile, and I'm way too old for that.
There's some good releases this week but nothing has blown me away as much as this so it's easily my GoTW unless some surprise comes along. Also in my top contenders for GoTY this far.
I got the demo for this on Vita, and while I like it, I guess I don't really understand why you would put a story in a horizontal shooter. It just meant I had to hold left trigger a lot to fast forward through the thing. I can see having to do that getting old. Would be nice to have a "no story" option in the settings. No, I don't have this iOS version. I liked the controls on the Vita a lot. I'll probably buy it there at some point, at least once there is a sale.
If this is any use to anyone (with a PC) who wants to either try Sine Mora for free or buy it for £1.99 (reduced from £7.99), go and have a look on Steam. There's a decent demo which should tell you all you need to know in order to decide if this is your thing, and the full version is currently on sale.
Shocking: did I just put myself in the league of "old guy keen on immature girl with very little clothes"? Oh gosh! Statement: I still want the answer regarding the difference between normal and ultra setting...
I don't think the graphics settings do anything, probably just accidentally left in during the port process? It doesn't even stick, anyway, just defaults right back to normal on an iPhone 5. Perhaps it does something on the slightly more powerful 4th gen iPads but I doubt it.
Appeasement: thank you for your kind reply. I do not notice the difference on my iPad3 either. And it is very smooth, as far as the first Chapter goes.
After having completed two times the normal story mode, I've ventured in the other modes avaible. Right now I'm playing the story mode in challenge difficulty...which is the right kind of difficulty for me (bosses are very hard and you have to start memorizing enemy patterns). Score attack and arcade mode (didn't undersand the differences between the two, besides the name) are set at hard or insane, where I last 1 minute at most. Anyway hands down the best shooter I ever played. There is something I didn't understand tough....when you select arcade or score attack you can select the ship. In the bottom screen there are some icons, most have a '?' on them. How to unlock? What are those? Also...when you select ship/pilot and time-power you get a screen with hexes...what is that? What changes if I select one or another? What happens if you select all? Or complete them (at hard difficulty is impossible for me). Anyway, awesome game.
Figured out a solution to my two biggest complaints about this game which are: controls and the letterbox display. I just ordered an 8-bitty controller and an 30pin to HDMI adapter for my ipad3. Can't wait to sit on the couch and play games on my 52" TV. I just hope the 8-bitty is compatible with most games and mapping is easy. Should be sweet for R.Type too! Anyone else doing this?
me i m playing it with my ps3 controller on a 50" screen but thats because im jailbroken. seeing how even now the game is so difficult i'm wondernig how people manage to play this with those touch controls!!
Is it icade compatible though ? You do know the 8 bitty only works with iCade compatible games ? I did have the 30pin to HDMI adapter but in the end i went for an Apple TV as it was wireless. I'll check my 8-bitty now with Sine Mora (unless i missed a post earlier) Edit - Just tested it. The 8-bitty doesnt work, i thought this game wasnt iCade compatible. You see not every game has iCade compatibility as before Apple didnt want external controllers used so it was always a bit of a 'hidden' type of thing. The Atari/Activision apps, Gridlee (if you were lucky to get that) and many others do work (there is a list somewhere on TA) but an iCade device doesnt automatically work with every device sadly. (Unless you are jailbroken and you can remap the keys to your device ?) ios7 announced external controllers so come September time there'll be a lot of new controllers i'm sure and also a lot more games i'm sure we will see updates to make them compatible
