Ah, okay. Its just not my normal genre so I don't read any of the threads about them. I'll try out a few more of the CAVE ones as they do seem to be considered the best option. Thanks anyway.
Phoenix HD is the best example of a shooter iOS has to offer. It's native to the platform, has an excellent frame rate, perfect relative touch controls and top shelf visuals. It is The Benchmark.
They work very well if the game doesn't have a giant analog stick. Bastion plays like a dream with it. Galaxy on Fire 2 becomes much more precise with it too. Not to mention other games. Some doesn't, mostly those with analog sticks bigger than the max range of the Fling, but in my experience there's not a lot of them. Gameloft shooters comes to mind, to name a few.
Not to mention it's from the devs who essentially made the shmup a viable genre on iOS by introducing RT in their previous game, Flare Elite, and then the original Phoenix.
It is one of the best vertical shooters I've ever played. However, in terms of horizontal, campaign-esque, 2D/3D, console quality, it would seem that Sine Mora could be the best ever. When I do get it, it will be in direct comparison to my favorite shooter of all time, G-Darius.
Anyone playing on a 4S, I found something odd. If you change the graphics to high, not only does the game look even more stunning, the framerate actually seems even better than the already smooth rate on medium. At least it does to me.
I dunno really. After trying out a lot of games you guys have recommended with RT, I'm still gonna have to say I'm very comfortable with the joystick for this one. The primary difference is really, for me personally at least, that in relation to horizontal, it just works. If it was a vertical one, I would say that RT would be essential. But this one is horizontal and its a different holding position of device and just a different enough type of gameplay and game to a vertical one. I wish I could substantiate that statement more but I can't quite other than the joystick is just more comfortable control wise for me in this case. I'm not even convinced I'd use RT in this one if the option was there. A floating joystick would, I think, be a more viable option. Have to wait and see what they add with updates I suppose but as things stand I'm content with the controls. And it is certainly one of the best games I've played in a long time (in the context of iOS platform).
Statement: Ah, you remind me, I think I have a Fling in my sac, I am going to try it out during lunch time and report back. Objection: I think the way CAVE games implement RT with all their ports (which use RT, i.e.) is the benchmark! Whether it is a port or not!
Explanation: Are you puzzled by the expression? 6 of one, half dozen the other means one in the same. So, the RT for both Phoenix HD and the Cave titles are pretty equal in quality. You can play either for good RT controls.
Wishing the save system was a little more forgiving. I made it past the garbage chute and onto the boss that follows it, but had to stop playing. Honestly, I had a little more trouble reaching the garbage chute than that section itself. And now, I need to go through it all again. Not that I'm not loving it, but would like to get through story mode once. And the boss training is kind of useless. Seems like you are way more powerful than in the main game. So there, my first criticisms of the game. And not at all related to controls. Those quibbles aside, there's not a single shmup I think I've been this engrossed by. I'm not all into shumps for complicated scoring systems and leaderboards. I just like the fun and challenge. So the atmosphere and imaginative design of this game puts it on the forefront of those that I've played.
Reporting: Humm, barely have time to play to intro with Fling on. I think it makes the game more manageable but the moves are smoother with this. Statement: Still wants RT and/or iCade.
