Well, I was on the fence on this one. Some amazingly disparate views going on in here about it. A very interesting discussion.
After seeing Sanukus video, well, its an easy decision now.
Looks extraordinary and extraordinarily challenging but I think that's (challenge) what makes a game more satisfying.
Joystick actually looks pretty precise from the video as well.
The borders do seem as though they might be bit on the large side at the bottom but I dunno, I kinda like the cinematic look.
I'm going with Metalcasket. Off to the store we go.
If no further impressions are forthcoming, it probably means I'm busting my hump to get past this infamous garbage chute. And addicted.

You'll love it, believe me. Yes, I will defend Sine Mora (iOS) to the death. Also, you're on a 4th gen iPad, so please, please, please Rip...please tell us whether the controls are "janky" or not.

I'm on the Sine Mora defense team with you. Really, really loving it. And have no problems with the controls. Movement seems precise enough for me. One of the best shmups on iOS IMO and I'll fight to the death on that one too.

I'm loving the game on iOS, but you are probably right.
Still, the game is outstanding and I'm glad I can play and enjoy (meaning: controls are not a problem, while maybe inferior than other platforms) on iOS a title I wouldn't ever played if not ported.
It hasn't have to be the 'definitive version' to be enjoyed.

Not doubting for a second it's not more polished on other platforms, but bought this yesterday and adore the game. Sure, controls need improving, but the style, presentation and creativity of bosses etc, makes it a monster game for me.

I'm playing on a 4S and have had no issues. Haven't noticed any framerate drops, controls well....I have no idea why they say it's not yet optimized for it.

So does it contain everything the other versions have, and the graphics are just toned down a little?

Okay I'll qualify by saying I haven't got too far in yet (bloody stupid people distracting wanting me to do some actual work), but this is an amazing game.
As I thought from the video, the cinematic-esque borders are actually a nice interesting touch. I can see how it might not suit some but I kinda like it actually.
Visually, its extremely impressive. I haven't tried the vita one so can't compare with that but this is well up there (on this platform wise) on visual style and environments.

To the crux of the matter. Joystick.
I've played on iPad 4 and iPhone 5. And I'm actually all for the joystick. I think its much more precise and responsive.

As for "jankiness", I dunno really, wouldn't that just be related to the precision of the touch points and whether you remove finger from control area while playing?
If you remove your finger from the joystick and place it back again, the point where you place your finger, centre/off centre/and so on, isn't that just relevant to how precise the control and touch area is?
That's if I'm understanding correctly what people mean when they say that.

I personally don't remove finger from joystick until a gap in the battle or a cut scene and the couple of times that I did at the wrong moment, I was just aware of my position and kept centred on the joystick so no "jankiness" (must ring Oxford and get that added to the dictionary:)).

Ultimately I'm having no issue whatsoever with the control joystick. I'm preferring it actually to some other relative touch or floating joystick games (in the same genre) that I just downloaded to try and get a perspective.

I think its very precise which is exactly what you need in this one. There are some extremely intense battles going on there.

There are definitely some difficulty spikes but that's a huge plus for me personally. There's a great deal of satisfaction in completing a level that has kicked your ass several times.
As demonstrated by an earlier posters asterix laden post:). I mean that in a good way. The excitement at beating a tough level is just very satisfying so I did enjoy that post quite a lot. You don't quite see a lot of it on iOS as difficulty tends to be just a bit too low.

Overall, this is a very, very easy game to recommend. Very easy. To recomend. I mean it has challenge, excitement, visual charm, a lot of character, great graphics and very good and precise (for me at least) controls. I like it a lot.

For the love of god, to the devs please put the blue force fields back into the maze boss on level 6 tira. I noticed a blue force field on an Xbox walkthrough. But none is present on ios which leads to many unfair deaths. Pls fix
