I really enjoyed this on the 360, but found the constant breaks for cut-scenes to be rather annoying. On the iPad (2) the controls are worse, the graphics are worse, and the cut-scenes are just as intrusive. Additionally I experienced a number of frame rate stutters. This wasn't ever a particularly deep or nuanced type of shmup in terms of gameplay mechanics; what it really had going for it though, was how beautiful and grand it looked, enabling the player to really feel swept up in the action. On iOS it's neither particularly grand nor beautiful. If you don't have access to any of the other versions, this is still probably worthwhile picking up; there's really nothing else quite like it on iOS. If you do though, and have played (one of) them, it's difficult to escape the sensation that this is a poor man's Sine Mora you're devoting your time to.
Ugh. Well, I woke up all excited to download this, but after reading these comments, I am not so sure. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that the game is solid overall. I am sitting here foaming at the mouth with my finger hovering over the buy button, since I have obviously been SUPER excited to get this. However, possible control issues/lack of relative touch, the obvious deduction in graphical assets (time to buy a Vita), possible screen real estate issues and possible frame rate issues, lack of game center, etc... It's what I like to label as 'Port Fear' with me, where I see some super beautiful console game coming over to devices that really can't support it properly. It seems that this is just the scenario I was afraid of.
Not only poor man version but also high priced one.Steam version is on sale currently at much cheaper price than iOS version, not to mention it's far superior.
Again i think the graphics look stunning, lack of real estate isnt a problem, to me its a bit like watching a film in widescreen. But no relative touch ? Hmmm, thats nearly a showstopper for me. I've played the first two levels with the joystick and its not 'that bad' but it would have been amazing if it was relative touch, far easier to control.
I'm after the third Level and i have to say that the game is really enjoyable but yes, it needs relative controls, Darius Burst it's a perfect example of how RC must be managed, I hope in some update! In any case Sine Mora on iPad 3 retina it's a masterpiece!
Of course, there's another group that you consistently fail to acknowledge: those of us who have access to other versions but simply do not have the time or wherewithal to play on other platforms. So far, almost every purchase I've made on my Vita has been a waste of money, either because the games have been pretty but awful (Uncharted, Resistance) or I simply don't play them enough -- mostly because I don't see a reason to carry a fairly bulky device with me when I already have an iPhone and an iPad Mini with me. As I wrote above, I think the difficulty of the iOS version better matches how most people play on handheld devices. And I'm just as caught up in the story and art direction on this version as I was on my Vita. The real question is not which one is the "definitive" version, but which one are you most likely to play. The answer for me is clear.
Game Impressions Well the game thinks you're playing on Xbox 360, does that count? https://twitter.com/Tunesmiff/status/356489441616990210 This port has lazy written all over it. Wrote this short review on iTunes: The Leaderboards throw up connection errors about being unable to connect to.. XBOX LIVE. Yep. (It's actually trying to connect to Facebook, but that doesn't work). No Game Center leaderboards or achievements even though the game has both features gameplay-wise carried over from it's Xbox 360 origin. The controls are a disaster in their current form, an imprecise virtual joystick stuck in bottom left corner along with a row of buttons for firing. The Developer should take lessons from CAVE CO., LTD on how to do iOS shoot-em-up controls. The game is letter boxed even on a 16:9 iPhone 5 screen. Leading to a very narrow view-port of the game; with a proper control scheme this would not be needed. Redeeming features: Graphics still looks nice and the game seems to runs fine (iPhone 5/iPad 3), the music is also very competently made. Overall a very lazy port from Xbox 360. Fix these issues and you have a great shoot-em-up game on iOS but as it stands it's a very poor example. Not recommended unless patched.
There's just always a catch with ports, or more specifically, games that were not built from the ground up to be played on these devices. It's nice to see these games available for us on iOS, to have in our pockets; it's a thing of beauty. However, it's often like fitting a square peg in a round hole, and often with the heftier price tag.
Yep agree with that, i dont mind the high price so much, its still the same cost as a meal in a fast food restaurant. I like the thrill of having some 'big name' game like this (And Limbo for example) on my device with me at all times. Hopefully we'll hear about an update at some point as i reckon there'll be an update at some point so it'll run on lower devices. So its not the end of the world yet but hopefully they're 'listening' and will add alternative controls etc
facebook sign in problem i have problem with facebook sign in like infinity loop and impossible to connect. if i choose No then my position in game is not saved. any solution?
First page says i. Play Game ii. Leaderboard iii. Achievements. I've not really looked at them but thought they'd be in-game achievements.
Ports can sometimes be a disaster, but I don't understand all the complaints on this one. Sure, it may not look as fantastic as it does on other systems and the joystick control isn't great, but works fine. But overall, it's a blast. No slowdown even on my 4S, nice story and still looks pretty damn good for an iOS game. Easily worth the $5.99 price of admission. Remember most Cave games start out in the $12-$15 range. This is more casual, perhaps, but is still one of the best shumps on iOS that I've played.
SumoSplash, buy the game. Trust me. You'll love it. I'm not going to comment on any of the posts in this thread, because I'm on the verge of saying something I'll regret.
I do really like the game, 7/10 nearly an 8 for me. But its the controls which pushes it down from a classic ios shooter to a 'decent' one. Are you honestly happy with the controls ? Can you imagine how much better it would be with relative touch ? If any of the Cave games had a joystick and not relative touch i would also be equally negative.
Ugh. Such a poor port of an otherwise brilliant game. An oddly glitchy and stuttering, badly controlling excuse of a shooter. Certainly not worth the price of admission if one has access to any other version of this game. Unless you're the type that enjoys beating their head against a wall with generally inferior versions of console/handheld/arcade titles for the sake of "convenience".
Yeah, I'm teetering on the fence. It's not that I don't want to buy it, and God knows I am going to, but I'm sure you see my reservations. Angel Witch.
Don't. At least wait for an update that addresses the control and sign-in issues. Or, you know, pick it up on one of the other four platforms Sine Mora appears on in perfect form.
