Its night and day really, this is a full fledged Civ, the same you have on PC if you ever played one of the PC Civs. Basically the ones from 2K (Revolution) is a simplified version of Civilization. So the gameplay will be similar but in this the mechanics and the content go MUCH deeper.
This is a port of the pc version. The depth is incredible. Civ rev 1 and 2, there's nothing to them. You can put hundreds of hours into this one.
Incredible game and brought it.... developer can do better by adding the option for retina screen display, the graphic display on IPAD 10.5 was not good.
Can I just check what the UI scale 2 option does. Ive not done this - dont have a BT keyboard but I did do the settings retina=1 in the .txt file and the graphics are much better. So whats dors the UI scale thing do? TIA
My impression is that it rescales the UI to the resolution of the screen, since you change the resolution by changing to Retina. Can anyone who did the Retina trick tell me how badly it drains battery ? I want to try it out but not if it murders my battery life in under 2 hours
So I've messed with the resolution settings and now it looks much crisper and the frame rate is acceptable. I'm on a 10.5 pro and the battery usage is minimal and a non issue. It really is quite a remarkable feat playing this in the ipad, it's the full fat deal. Just a quick note with regard to the price. Releasing this is the state that it is, at a price equal to or greater than what you can get the PC game for, should raise eyebrows. The Pc version is further updated, can be run at a multiple of resolutions, has mod support, and multiplayer. You'd be hard pressed to convince me that the portability premiuim completely offsets these features. If these are all planned, then great, release them when done or offer for lower price until implemented. That being said, well done with getting it here, and aside from the aforementioned issue, I am damn impressed with the game.
IPad Pro 12.9 support? Anyone know if this takes advantage of the 12.9s bigger screen, or if it just scales up?
Most of your points I agree with, even if they are things I can get past easily (i hate online MP in civ, i just play lan/hotseat, both being present), multiple resolutions on a tablet isnt as necessary as PC. I disagree though with your statement of the version not being as up to date, for one reason : On Mac we are at the same version right now, the only difference is the ability to purchase DLC on Mac, but Mac is at the same price than PC as well. Only thing that can be a dealbreaker here is the lack of online MP, something I hope they either patch in or take into consideration for people interested in it. It just scales up, but if you do the Retina trick mentionned in the few comments above, it will take resolution of your 12.9 into account #
Well... everyone would prefere a less expensive price But the choice about the importance of portability is personal. In a lot of situation “portability” mean “more expensive”: there is more technology in a portable Pc than in a desktop. And probably is easier create Civilization for the desktop than recreate same experience in an ipad. For me portability on an ipad is equivalent to “you can play”. So, you understand, even if the price would be more expensive than fixed one... I would pay happy but.. obviously, is my particular situation.
Re: ipad only, bummer I would be all over this like stink on a pig if this were universal. Sucks that its ipad only. Oh well. Anyone know if they have any plans for iPhone too? Maybe in a future update?
I really want to get this, I’m blown away that a full fat version of Civ is available on the iPad but version parity with PC/Mac is important for me and I would love to know if they are planning on updating it, especially with the full fat price we are being asked to pay. I have no knowledge about Aspyr, are they a company that’s good at supporting their games and will eventually patch the game to its current version (hopefully not too long!)
Well... if you get the game before January you pay 30 bucks... if you you are uncertain now and you will resist until the 4th of January you will be sure that you wont pay the 60 dollars #
This version being a port from the Mac version, we have "version parity" right now, the only versions thats ahead is PC. Mac and iOS are the same right now. Pretty sure Aspyr will update it to be honest, they just ported the game back to back they might just need some time (and some sales) for that to happen.
Ah ok I didnt realise that Mac was also behind PC and that Aspyr also did the Mac version. Thanks for the info
Since its the same build than Mac, it will most likely not be that big of a job for them to update the iOS version after updating the MacOS one. I mean a good part will already be done.
I really wish they would say something about update plans, DLC, and plans for the upcoming expansion. The port is great, but without knowing about how it will compare to the version I already have on Steam over time, I'm a little reluctant to buy again. As long as DLC, version parity, and expansions will all be forthcoming in a timely manner, I think it is well worth the asking priceespecially at $30.
I believe the earliest we may know something is after the new year or sometime in the first quarter of next year. Unfortunately the $30 price is only for a bit...but...you know how games go, if your patient enough you can always find the next sale if you dont want to commit to the $30 now. Like I wrote earlier I think Aspyr is in this for the long haul and has proven itself on iOS but that doesnt mean there is going to be DLC, parity, or expansions. I just feel Civ is in good hands and the likelihood of those things occurring is greater than if it was another developer handling the port.
