It could be the answer customer support has to respond with since this is probably one of the biggest complaints from people not complaining about price. Especially, like you said, performance doesnt take much of a hit or any at all with the UI scale. Maybe theyll never enable the advanced graphical features but if Aspyr wants to charge full on premium I have to believe theyre looking to keep this game continuously updated and supported well into the next generation of Apple iPads. Im happy to play Civ 6 with default resolution but it would be nice to have the option for the newest apples on the market. ...I still think its gonna be added in a update down the road but I may be wrong.
Am I the only one that finds this answer pretty harsh ? Im really just pointing out my opinion but it almost feels likes theyre mad or something
It’s harsh but it probably is not out of malice. It sounds like a typical customer support response from a company. I think as forum members of touch arcade we’re used to a more personal back and forth with developers and publishers and not the typical customer support speak. I’ve emailed various companies in the past for customer support and it’s standard reply with a typical go to solution.
That was my gut reaction too, and it honestly crapped on my day a bit since I’ve been a big Aspyr fan in the past. I did say in my original email that the UI assets felt “too damned big” on a 13” iPad but overall the tone of my feature request was enthusiastic/positive. I certainly never said I was unhappy with the game, so I was a little surprised. Maybe someone just had a bad day, or was sick of answering the nth “retina” request of the hour. Assuming an Aspyr rep is still hanging around, though, I imagine they grok the difference between the UI scale setting and the resolution setting and this has all probably come up internally by now. Hopefully they understand that supporting two UI size options is not at all uncommon or over the top in the mobile market. I will say that if Aspyr expects me to continue to pay AAA game prices, I expect AAA game options—in particular the ability to tune my own play experience for the hardware I have and make my own decisions about visual/performance tradeoffs. That’s part of the expectation for asking the big bucks, imo, and is core to the longevity of the game. If the next game ends up being unconfigurable at a $60 (or $30 as the case may be) price point I’ll probably pass. Eh, I’m not shy about contacting support for bug reports or requests and whatnot and this was on the harsh side of normal for the Mac/iOS software community. My guess is there was some other factor than just my contact. I am absolutely certain there was no malice, though.
I really don't think it was a bad response at all. It was easily dismissive, that's what it was (maybe a little too quick to dismiss), but it wasn't really negative and in malice at all. It was more along the lines of a standard customer response. Not even close to someone having a bad day.
Wow, that's kinda rude in a way. It was just a suggestion to improve the game and this is how they respond to ideas from their community.
I sent a polite support email referencing the post above which copied in their reply. I said the game is awesome and asked them to consider adding either UI scale or retina options. So maybe if we all ask nicely, they may consider it 100% this......
Maybe, and I appreciate the cite, but it might come off as brigading if everyone piles on. The last thing I want is to smack a company around for releasing one of the first AAAs. After some thought I think the long and short of it is I wrote something probably more meant to be read by a dev or product owner, and it was answered instead by a frontline support person with a semi-canned reply that really only addressed the Retina support. I wouldnt take it too seriously.
What that tells me is that customer support has no knowledge of future updates and gave you the cut and paste response / solution. Which is a good thing since we (or them) have no idea about what will be included in updates. Maybe im being a bit too optimistic but I think we should all just wait and see what happens in the upcoming months since the game was just released shortly before the AppStore freeze. It may take awhile for a couple major updates.
I dont have the ability to hook my iPad up to a computer; I hope an update allows users to enable retina mode on iPad pros....
How to view messages Does anyone know how to recall the messages that tell you what occurred in the last turn like when other civs complete wonders, you capture a spy, etc.?
So for the people who have played the iPad version awhile, how is the ai? Also, I know the game supports some mods, does this version support the ai+ mod?
It support all mods that are supported with the spring patch version, its the same coding, its a direct port from the mac version minus the online MP, all mods that work on the mac version will work here
that price... Its even more expansive than a brand new console game - wtf. And not even multiplayer included.... If it would be compatible to Mac/PC multiplayer, okay. But as it is? lol.
