Maybe not have it be mandatory for all games like Microsoft does, but wouldn't be cool to have an Apple profile with Achievement points as well as stuff like the last games you played?
That would be a very bad idea for a couple reasons. First, if you allowed free games to have these tracked achievements you would get an influx of popular but terrible games that drowned out the quality titles. Second, if it was limited to paid apps you would run into the problem of apps that would have been free being paid because of the added draw of the achievements. I think it's a loss for the gamers in either situation, but of course, it would mean potential additional sales for developers from people that will pay just to see their meta-score go up.
Good points. I hadn't thought about the paid vs free situation. Perhaps have a seperate tally for free and paid?
How about you just don't have an overall points system and just track only achievements? Then it wouldn't matter what games had achievements and what games didn't, but you could still go through a friend's game list and see what he/she has played and what achievements they got.
One system for the free apps while another one for paid or just let you just get achievements like trophys and not about scores...
What about having an account on your iDevice that tracks all save data, songs, videos, etc., and, if you erase and sync/ delete everything, you just restore to your account and you're back to normal!
It would probably be better if it was somehow linked to your Facebook Connect account or if each individual company had their own achievement system like ngmoco or Tapulous. Ngmoco's is pretty cool, but unless they start linking your profile to some sort of online hub where you can view your stats like Xbox.com, it's pretty useless.
