Well, this was a nice surprise. Really good fun. A big part of that is definitely the Moon. He's a jerk. Also he's just annoying enough that you want to fire more missiles into his smug face, but not so annoying that you want to put the game down. Nice balance there. Also I love the music. Any chance of a soundtrack being released? Or some kind of theatre mode where you can just watch him sing? Some of the later versions of the tune are really great.
I love the game, but I'm stuck around the 200 point mark. I intend to put a lot more time into it tonight (I've played less than an hour in total).
Shoot the Moon is now #18 in the US's top FREE games chart. To put that into perspective, Shaun, your little labor of love had more downloads today than Candy Crush. It's too bad it wasn't above CandyCrush in the 'Top Grossing' chart too!
Leaderboard Hey, I absolutely love your game. The music goes perfectly well with the gameplay, the moons voice and faces are hilarious, it's just a great game and thankyou for creating it! I'm 8th on the leaderboard at the moment with 929, which isn't easy to get, yet there is someone who is 1st with 188 thousand points. Has he somehow hacked the game? I'm sure you've noticed but I thought I'd give you a heads up just in case.
Leaderboard As I posted that, the 180 thousand points guy has disappeared off of board haha problem solved then!
Wow, that is a huge compliment, thank you! Tiny Wings was the first game I played obsessively on iOS (back on my old 2nd gen ipod touch), and while making Shoot the Moon i still came back to TW occasionally, usually as a motivation booster. @BlueCats heheh, I do like hearing about people's reactions to the moon. I must admit I didn't think about making the music available or adding a 'just let him sing!' mode… which could be a nice little feature as I've had feedback from at least one person who says their baby gets super excited whenever he hears the moon singing. I'm now working on a small update in prep for ios8, but I'll have to look at what I can do in a more substantial update after that. @Lazer Kat hahah… yes, I think I'd have a heart attack in such a situation. It's already mind boggling enough seeing it creeping up the free chart. @Purplejack, Yeah, the cheaters are a bit of a nuisance. I took various steps to make it difficult to tamper with the score on the device, but it's ultimately futile as the cheaters simply use tools to intercept the data as it's being sent from the device to Apple, then alter it and send it on. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about that except manually remove obvious cheaty scores from the board. It's annoying when you get a kickass score and there are a bunch of completely ridiculous scores at the top, I know. It's bugged me on many games. Not that I'm routinely getting kickass scores, but you know what I mean.
Wow just got one more point than Andy, I am shaking all over Ha Ha. Wonder how long it's going to last. Think you have a HIT game going by the sales Shaun, Congrats.
Love this game so much. Glitch no longer occurring. Must have been something else...only happened that one time. Haven't had a chance to play it since
Top 5 spots on the leaderboard are all hacked. There's 335,000 players now though, so I'm sure it's tough keeping up.
It's definitely a losing battle. So strange how determined some people are to submit completely made up scores. I've been working on an update that should be done fairly soon. It's only an interim one, mainly to fix an issue with the game overriding any music/podcasts that might be playing, but also to add score sharing via social media. Once it's done I plan to start on a more fun/interesting update. And then after, I hope to get a chance to play all the amazing games that have been coming out lately!
crazy game! Made me hate the moon!! Anyways great design and the small attention given towards the expressions of moon is epic.. Could play this game even with music turned off and was still having a pleasant time.
Wow, I just saw Shaun Musgrave's review here on TA, and I must say I'm thrilled to bits! Apart from my total surprise at being reviewed (I assumed I had gone off the radar a while ago), I'm delighted with the the fact that Shaun so accurately conveyed the core elements of the game, particularly with lines such as: "...taking a lot of shorter shots will leave you with fewer points and more red satellites." "Really, the smart play is to shoot the moon and go for those long shots." "...keep your cool and take the best shots, not the easiest or quickest ones." Which is exactly right. In fact, anything less than a full-length shot is basically a consolation prize. Also, I think it's good that Shaun pointed out that the game is unlikely to have much long term appeal for people who aren't into score chasing. Not only is that an accurate observation, but personally I feel it's better if players are aware of that going in, as some of the less positive responses I've had are from non-scorers who shortshot their way to 30 or 40pts, miss, and then think, is that it... what's the point? Finally, if I had to pick one favorite line from the review to put on the 'box', I'd say it's this one: "It's a very approachable concept with a whole lot of personality and a surprising amount of nuance." But I certainly got a kick out of the "powerful existential philosophy" line. So thanks for taking the time to review Shoot The Moon. I was like the Karateka dance gif after reading it. Now it's back to my bubble/cave (bubblecave?) to continue working on the update. It's basically done, but I'm experimenting with different game modes -- would like to squeeze at least one extra mode into this update. @geet_gamer Thanks, but try not to hate the moon too much. Remember, all he wants to do is sing and sing and sing and occasionally laugh at you.
