Videos will be great. It's easier for me to visually reproduce something I see in this particular game than when it's spelled out. I think that says something positive about the organic logic to the control method in this game. That's a pretty good way to have it for players to juggle the three cetaceans I think. I was agonizing over who to use before and I'm happy to usually use Bandit and have the others be a special treat.
some strategy ok, so here is a youtube of the correct way to bolt. Now - its not done every time - its a challenging game that requires real skill. Pay attention to the Bolt at 14 seconds in. Notice how the dolphin is already into the turn to get the Blacktip - then the bolt - then the bite. This particular battle is very hard - and the recovery time the blacktip (each enemy has a different recovery time) is very short. Sometimes you have a bit longer after the stun to boost into the enemy - other times not. You can also boost after a bolt that follows a turn into the enemy. The bolt gives you a little bit of a boost too. The controls teach you, without you knowing it. This is the "organic" feel - but it comes with just sort of letting go and keeping your goal in mind. The game has a bit of voodoo to it that is hard to describe, but I think you've insinuated in your comments. It just "clicks" after a while and you start nailing all the enemies. Now - some of our older players, the ones that utterly mastered the old game (to a point that I couldn't) had a harder time with the bolt - but this is expected. This is the brain learning something - etching it in those neural pathways. When you get the new tactics, you have to "unlearn" what you've learned.
Dogfish is kicking my butt right now. Thing is--the more I lose the more I want to try & get past that spot! It IS addicting! But-----seems like after the update my dolphin seems to be slower and more sluggish than before. Loss of movement in general it feels like. Enemies spin all around me biting the heck outta me. The stun is the only thing that saves me. Wish I could attack faster and dart forward to nab my tasty meal. Sorta frustrating. Takes some of the fun out of it. Ends up being more like work and desperation in a way. Maybe a bit more precise, but slow. Not digging that. A dolphin is supposed to be super agile!
So the speed is a bit of an illusion- the camera fix is what makes it appear like that. The first dogfight with the dogfish can be a hard one- wait until he attacks then loop around with a simultaneous bolt. Once the stun becomes second nature it will ease organically- Getting the too easy / too hard tuning is the hardest part of this- Feedback here is so useful thank u
Also - simon is unlocked every 24 hours and is faster and has a much more powerful bolt. You can use him as many times until u win. Similar thing with Zoey- both are not just cosmetic but have battle advantages
yeap, i managed to pass the snappers with jousting immediately when the game starts, eating one, then bolting away, and made a lucky grab for the second. I call it lucky, because i believe i did the same thing that wasn't working for so many tries, and suddenly for some reason it worked and i grabbed the second one. Maybe Bandit was better aligned. the fight with the shark afterwards i passed in two tries
I'm really confused with the controls? I seem to be using an invisible stick with my right thumb but it just turns the dolphin seemingly random any tips or help appreciated as at the minute I'm just swiping away and hoping for the best that it'll turn in the direction I want.
i use short swipes personally. others may have a better method, but i found for me short and fast swipes work to turn the dolphin where i want. Also, the dolphin follows it's AI for the 3rd dimension (depth of screen) and that's what causes it sometimes to not go exactly where you want. I discussed this with the devs, and they said they will work at refining the AI even more for better control, but they don't want to remove the 3rd dimension AI controlled movement. The dolphin controls much better than the first version and is more responsive. And if they say they will work at it even more, i trust them
control First, make sure you are using two hands, one finger or thumb for the boost, the other to swipe. Second, on Shark-levels you're not supposed to target fish so don't try to eat them (but i've taken out fish on the first few sharks so you can get the hang of it). The dolphin is meant solely to be controlled for combat. Its a 2D screen and a 3D world where we bring you a side - wide view of the battle. So we calculate the 3rd degree of freedom with an Ai. That Ai is very smooth - if you use it for combat only. You're not supposed to be able to move arbitrarily. Don't think about how to control it, just think about which enemy you want to follow/attack and let your finger swipe it there. Don't watch your finger, watch the dolphin, the enemy you wish to attack, and let the control flow. You must have a target in mind in order to guide Bandit with elegance. Align it to the target, then boost - and you'll catch the fish. If you get through tutorial 1 - this means you've nailed it. this is a video of someone playing the old version (its basically the same but with an added dimension due to the bolt): Once you develop a flow - knowing where it targets and where you want to target - you will be able to control him with deep precision - but again, only in the context of battle. Give this a shot. I'm pretty sure you'll nail it and it will become smooth as silk. Everyone eventually does. This is not a "button masher" mindless game. You are actually developing a real motoric response (i.e., skill). So the learning curve may be slightly longer, but the reward will be too. It will click.
