Of course. Probably in my top 10 games of all time... Which time for me began in the late 70's with arcade games and pong home consoles.

  2. Was kind of hesistant to buy this due to the bordered graphics on my ipad, but decided to buy this cause I use hdmi tv now. In fully zoomed mode on my tv, I get no borders on top and bottom, so finally able to play cause I don't think I would play much on an ipad screen.

But this game as well as deathsmiles looks ok on a tv with no little borders. So played it a bit and I like it. The weird thing about this game is the cutscrenez show retina large characters, kind of interesting how they made this game half old graphics half retina cutscenes.

Game is fun though, thank god for hdmi tv so I can finally enjoy games like this and deathsmiles. Too cool. Highly recommended!

Pricing aside, this game is one of the true must-haves for iOS. Dripping with quality and polish, and genuinely fun.

That's because this was originally a Nintendo DS title, while the core game hasn't been touched, the cutscenes, etc. etc. have all been "redone" for iOS.

  5. Yeah, I hope they can make a modern version, a Shantae 2, a new game totally different than this game, with fullscreen and retina ipad graphics, that would be cool cause this game concept is great! And the cutscenes look wonderful in retina graphics.

This actually is Shantae "2", with the original Shantae being a GBC title and this being a DSiWare title, and the third entry is in the works for the 3DS. And of course that may end up getting ported as well, but the chances of a pure smartphone entry in the series are low.

  7. Okay, Shantae 4? Or how about Shantae X! ;)

Any "retina"-resolution artwork for a game in this series would need to be included from the outset (unlikely if it is ultimately just being ported from another system), as upgrading low-res sprites takes a lot of work. The reason that iOS version of Shantae has standard graphics for the characters and world, and high-res offerings for the UI and character portraits is because there are significantly different techniques involved in their creation.

Put simply, because of the nature of the artwork, to redo the sprite set for a single character to make it what people would consider "retina" would very likely take significantly more time, effort and money than it did to upgrade every character portrait in the game, and it's rather unlikely that extra expense would have paid off.

There actually is another Shantae game coming out for the 3DS. She loses her powers and teams up with Risky Boots for some reason. There was a story about it in one of the final issues of Nintendo Power this past fall. Maybe they'll port it to ios too.

Edit- Ah, I see Seil mentioned this above.

Yeah, the portraits are likely just their original resolution. Some DS games included graphics that were beyond what they'd actually look like on a DS. I don't think they completely re-did the graphics in TWEWY for iOS, for example, rather that's what it always looked like on the computers it was designed on.
