I just updated to 3.0 firmware today, and one of the big reason I shelled out 10 bucks is for the shake to shuffle feature that was added. When I tried it out though, I found out it only works when you are in your music library. Not when your iPod is sleeping or before entering a passcode. What is the point of this new feature if it is just easier to hit the home button twice and press skip?? :(

I think the shuffle not working while its sleeping is necessary because you wouldnt want your iPod to shuffle every time your pocket or your bag moves :)

Anyway, there is another way to shuffle (Im not sure if this is useful for you)
    1. Assume your iPod is sleeping (even if its passcode locked)
    2. Turn on the screen using the power button
    3. Double tap the home button to bring up the iPod controls on screen
    4. Shake to shuffle

    Your welcome :)

Note that this method is actually not very helpful for me because my home button is getting really hard to press properly lol

I normally just use the clicker to go to the next song :p
