What can Apple do to lower piracy? Hardware changes in future products? I really don't know how it works, but if MS could do it with the 360 (DVD exploit don't apply) could apple put in some silicon etc that will hinder piracy? Anyway, is there still problems with this game on iOS 5/iPad 2 Madfinger? I'm waiting to dl it again and start over
Wow, I just looked this up and sure enough China Unicom is advertising jailbroken iPhones and iPads for sell along with 10 popular Cydia apps! so they could pirate games with no problem! I don't see anything about games or other apps being given away at the store besides the Cydia apps, but it would be easy for them to get pirated apps though.
It's been discussed many times before, basically piracy is something we all don't appreciate, but it happens everywhere. Even on DS, PSP, Wii, etc. It's something we can't yet avoid, because technically there's no way to stop piracy, it's just a matter of time before someone cracks it. The only way to stop piracy is awareness that by doing so we're not supporting the devs. Unfortunately, even many members of this forums are doing that (there were a few threads on this but got deleted). There are many articles on the net about different aspects of piracy as well, how some say it's not 'lost sales' because if there's no pirated version then they simply won't play it at all, and how devs just need to play cat-and-mouse instead of whining and making excuse since wherever they go they'll meet piracy (game, music, movie industry). ps: My iPhones are and have never been jailbroken, I don't play pirated games nor support it, but it's important to always see everything from different perspectives.
A post I made earlier compared Shadowgun to Modern Warfare 2. I actually crunched the numbers and I feel somewhat stupid. Modern Warfare 2 would have broken even if they sold the game for around $10. But my point with piracy on the appstore, is that is a problem and smaller developers projections/profits aren't the same as Activision and big time developers. You need to take into account what Madfinger probably spent on this game. Then look at the price of the game + how many people actually will buy it. And I say WILL because piracy plays a major role in how many people actually pay for the game. If any of you guys want the numbers, I will post them. So, we do still need to support the up and coming devs.
People aren't always quiet about it. I've seen posts at other forums and on twitter with people talking about downloading games for free.
I agree. It does lose sales. Especially if only 10% of that games population actually bought the game.
I totally agree that pirating games is not okay; especially when the amount of work was put into making excellent games. The only reason I would jailbreak is to get an emulator, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
Got the game, pretty great thus far! Runs and controls more smoothly than any other action game I've played on iOS, which is especially impressive since at the same time it's also the best looking game on the platform. This is some polished shit man. Gameplay is indeed a bit simple and I get how that can be boring for some. However, they did make it challenging. Died a few times on Normal mode already and I like the difficulty. Will probably replay it on Hard when I'm done.
I often want to do so, but somewhat reluctant to get burnt. I don't mind paying full price for a game I know I'd love, but for something I'm not sure, I'd rather wait until it goes on sale. It's not a matter of just $3 here or $5 there, but how everything adds up very quickly. The difference between paying full price and waiting for sale can easily reach $100 and while that's not much to buy a console game, it can easily get 50-100 good games on the appstore. So sale is a double-edged sword too, while it can get new buyers, it can also hold back potential early buyers.
Damn, played some more and I'm really impressed. This thing pisses all over Infinity Blade in terms of performance (game runs smooth as silk) with much bigger (and of course free-roaming) environments that have tons more going on and are crawling with enemies, each of which comes close to the level of detail of the enemies in IB. Even runs smoother and looks better than Rage HD. It's definitely the #1 technical showcase on the platform. Unity engine just owned Unreal on iOS. Big time.
I just finished level 9 and am currently playing 10. After I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS5, every single explosion results in a 1-2 second screen blackout which is very annoying. I have to tap the screen for the visuals to resume. When I shoot bullets, everything is fine. Only explosions that I initiate or that or rockets or grenades that I fired at me. I can't kill the Exoskeleton because of the number of explosions blacks out the screen too much to evade not only the doctor but the dudes catching me in the crossfire. I can't run and evade when I can't see.
A lot of reviews on the store are also mentioning about these black screens, is everyone experiencing these? Ipad or iPhone?
Oh, fully agreed! I don't think we'll see a lot of games this polished in terms of both visuals and performance, Madfinger really nailed it on this one. Still, with the game pushing things that much further than Infinity Blade, I can't help but also see this as a huge win for Unity.
Yes to save memory, but they might come back. Shame they have to reduce effects to make it playable on older gen hardware. I wish they could make things like that a toggle, so people with a5's could play with everything cranked and others could manually disable stuff to make the frame rate smooth on their device. Instead the newer gen loses out on effects so people with older gens will stop whining. This is why we can't have nice things.
I havent got the game yet so I probably wont notice it when I purchase it. Does it make a big difference? I agree thats its a shame they remove things to make it better for people with old devices.
