Tbh I haven't bought the game yet (plan to soon, still a bit on the fence but probably will) but in all the clips I've seen, the ripple effect always seemed out of place. It'd fit for something like a gravity disruptor gun or something along those lines but it doesn't feel like it makes sense for normal explosions.

As someone just suggested, some sorta screen shake or something with some particles or something might be more suitable and actually take up less memory at the same time!

Just wanted to say that although I'm not all that into TPSs and graphics rate far, far behind gameplay for me, I did pick this up mostly because of my love for the Samurai games (the first one was one of the very first iOS games I ever played, and maybe the first I actually finished ;)), anyway, I have to say that I think this game is really excellent--obviously it is gorgeous, but even though I have only played the first few levels, there seems to be more enemy diversity than I expected from reading this thread and reviews. The gameplay is certainly not as complex as the latest T/FPSs coming out on consoles, but still and all it's really well executed and simply a lot of fun. Level design and enemy AI are pretty decent too; it's not as if there is no strategy involved in playing the game, especially on the harder difficulties.

Anyway, I am definitely not disappointed and happy to have put down a 5 spot for it. And add me to those who think this game is a class above the usual fare from Gameloft. Cheers, Madfinger!

I still haven't finished level 1 because I find the gameplay very boring.

    Ummmmm

I swear I dont understand this release a game at full price thing for there true fans just to slap us in the face with a sale for everyone else that wont pay that kind of money for an ios game. This tradition has to stop or slow down at least, I wonder how developers would like it if noone purchased there games at full price when it first came out and just "waited for the sale"............

    Signed,

    Sincerely confused

I don't see what there is to be confused about. A sale was inevitably going to happen. If you bought the game at full price, you obviously found the price fair and you wanted to support the developer. Don't get me wrong, I understand how you feel, but then again, I also understand that I paid the initial price knowing that it'll eventually drop. I mean, if you want to play right away, then pay what they're asking. But if you're not too desperate for it, wait for a sale. There's nothing to really be confused about, IMO.

Going forward I will never buy a full priced game on launch day ever again. What's the point, when 95% of the games go on sale a week or two after release?

I paid full price, I enjoyed it and although not perfect, I thought it was very fun and I got my monies worth.

    Give me a break!!!

    You I agree with.

The sale was too soon in my opinion. Just because sales generally upset the end user. I also bought the game, knowing a sale come, to support the developer.

People have to realize that developers need income to make these amazing games and also to keep them updated. I think the reason the sale happened so soon is because of the amount of people who pirated the game.

Blame the all the people who torrented the game and not necessarily the developers.

Again the less people who buy the game, the more likely we will see a sale. Buy the game to support the developer for future updates and games.

I am kind of out of the loop, and it was probably talked about in this thread, but...so this game was heavily pirated? That's a real shame.

Is there nothing a dev can do to code to pirated versions so they won't work properly? I remember some years back the devs of Blood 'n' Guns made it so that all the pirated versions of the game had the pirates fighting these super powerful chickens instead of zombies. :D

Yeah it was. I can't find the original post, but I think they said only 10% of people actually bought the game. Here's some of their tweets.

-@sstaver you know Stephen, we could make Shadowgun better and spend more time on it, but sales are 1000x lower then on consoles..
-Another #SHADOWGUN stats - only 0,025 % users in China paid for it..

I think their twitter said that if you pirated the game you wouldn't be able to play multiplayer once released.

That's too bad. I don't know exactly where I stand on the piracy/lost sales argument (somewhere in the middle, really, because I think that piracy does effect sales but I have no idea how much or how little).

Anyway it would be very frustrating to have your work stolen so I do sympathize with the devs and I personally feel like the excellent work Madfinger has done with this game and Samurai II especially, deserve serious returns that will probably never come. I guess that makes them something like iOS developer #10,538 who have a legitimate reason to be disappointed in sales response to their product.

    Alright, sorry, rant over.

  19. Based on my experience, almost all iPhones in China are jailbroken at the store right after unboxing. Most of the stores also have massive collections of apps so that people can choose whatever apps they want right at the store without paying extra, and the customers can come back at any time to download new apps. It's quite insane really, can't say I'm surprised at that statistic...

Yeah, but the sad thing is that I saw twitter posts asking for this game to be .99. I'm not rich by any means, I'm a college student with moderate funds, but it's unrealistic to only pay .99 for a game with this amount of technology in it. The reason it cost the standard price at launch was to get the support of the gamers who want to see this game go far. Then with only 10% of people buying it, they probably did have to do a sale to entice consumers.

It's like Activision spending 60+ million on modern warfare 2 and then selling it for $10. It doesn't make sense, since in a perfect Dev/Publisher world they would at least make back the $60 million to make the game, then they would need to make back whatever they spent on advertising(this isn't necessarily applicable to iOS games), and still make a profit to move on to their next profit.

    [[Edit]]
With advertising it cost $200 million to make MW2
