Word. I agree, for those of us favoring the game - finding ways to convey the standards, or a litmus test and barometer as to why we do - we shouldn't have to defend our pleasure toward a game worthy of 8 dollars. It's not rocket science. The game is one of the better experiences found on the iOS platform. It's a touch based shooter, that takes up minimal flash storage. Not only that, Shadowgun was developed by a small team, with nominal monetary resources. Madfinger's lone AMBITION should be of note, not a demerit. At the very least they're delivering what they've promised: A beautifully created, 5 hour romp through a galactic circus chock full of mutant freaks, a more than mildly entertaining storyline with some fun pop and shot combat. Hey, it's not on rails either
Not at all, it sounds like what some of you are looking for is a description of the game which you can find on iTunes.
THANK YOU!! Sorry... I really do kind of disagree with the review... but that's my opinion... the review is yours... But there are SO MANY review sites that pretty much give you the game description instead of a review. It's nice to read reviews that are actual opinions, and TA is one of few places that has reviews that are great reads... So even though I don't agree with the review, I still think it's a nice review, and a good read. It does suck that the reviewer had that many issues with it, and the main reason I don't agree with the review is because I havne't experienced a lot of those issues... but if I did, I would say that the review was spot on because it would have taken a LOT away from the actual gameplay... =o/ Anywho... I see both sides... I'm Canada, like usual... =oP But I just wanted to say that TA reviews are some of the best.
I did not miss the point. I stated my opinion on the game and you disagreed with me. How is that missing the point?? It seems like your defending that review.
I'm not looking for a description, I can find those on iTunes and appshopper. But if you think that review completely covered the game, I can't help you.
I'd expect him to defend that review... even if he didn't agree with it, and I respect him for that... Not kissing ass... but wouldn't you expect the owners of almost all review sites to back up and defend their reviewers?
An opinion-based review can't be "wrong". The only thing I'm defending is logic and reason here, two things that seemed to have gone out the window quite a while ago.
Well it's fine if he wants to defend his writers, but honestly it makes me laugh, when I say I like the game, and he says my opinion is wrong, lol !! and being a writer, you have to expect disagreement.
I understand what a review is. To me a review, is an overall impression of a person's time spent with the subject matter. A review can be subjective and objective - it's best to list both types of reasonings. I'm sure the audience finds it beneficial to convey the established pros, as well as, the relatable cons. It's crucial to cover both sides of the proverbial coin. Hodapp, I'm not going to bicker with you. You're entitled to maintain an opinion you find justifiable. I am welcome to oppose the merits of a review, on grounds I happen to disagree with. I will not argue that points of the review are invalid. There are some agreements there; However, as a whole - Shadowgun accomplished the majority of it's goals, far more than it failed them. If the review had said, in simple terms: Expect a partly cloudy day, with copious amounts of sunshine - but bring an umbrella because there's guaranteed to be a some wet, rainy showers throughout... It may have been more fitting. Ps. Can I have a job? Lol
If you read this thread you'll notice that not once have I said "Your opinion is wrong." In fact, I don't think I've ever uttered that phrase in person or online as I understand both what opinions are as well as what opinion-based writing pieces like reviews are.
Your right , after I finish the campaign on normal I'll give it a go on hard. Has anyone unlocked any achievements yet? None of the achievements I've earned are unlocking for Me(hmmm?)
I`m 99% sure that you have to be connected to game center to unlock achievements as the game progresses! i know that because i played connected to the internet for the first 7 levels, and i got the achievements for them, then played on the road the next two(no connection, didn`t get the achievements)! Then i played the last level with game center on, at home, and got the a.! A long answer, i know, but that`s what happened to me! i will begin in the next day the campaign again on hard to unlock everything , so my advice is to be connected at all times to gamecenter, or at least the moment you finish a level or get the last extra/skull thingy!
Hi all, just a quick "can we center on the game instead of on the good/bad reviews?" ;-) As for the game, what I'd really appreciate would be to have more than half the screen to look around. I'd rather have 2/3 of the screen to look around and 1/3 for the floating joystick. I get nervous when the action goes hectic and tend to invade the left half of the screen with my right thumb, which makes the joystick appear. Since I try to look around but the game thinks I want to move the joystick, the result is moving from my cover position and therefore being killed. Yes, I'm THAT bad at this game, but I'm enjoying it a lot.
Dude, you guys all have it wrong. This is a VIDEOGAME review, not a roadmap review. The gameplay is boring, period. The gameplay is repetititve, period. And it got rated AS A GAME on those merits. Everyone gives MadFinger props for it's graphical brilliance, including the TA review...but when it comes down to it, it's a repetitive game.
Well, I for one bought the game and don't 'covet' it. And I certainly would not put ShadowGun in the same class as Dead Space or even Infinity Blade. Not even close. Sure, it's a graphical showpiece--just like those others--but it lacks the most important thing: engaging gameplay. If all I wanted to do was look at pretty pictures, my iPad2 and iPhone would simply be packed full of videogame screenshots. 10 minutes into ShadowGun, I was bored. After the first boss fight (which I rather liked) the game crashed. Since then, I haven't felt the urge to boot it up again. The TA review was an accurate one. I would have been PISSED OFF if I bought the game after reading any review that only praised the game's pretty graphics and made no mention of it's weak gameplay. As it stands, I wish I had read the review before buying the game.
a) I don't know why you replied to my post which was balanced and went on a rant b) you're not serious about the roadmap thing right? You do understand it's a figure of speech? c) you're stating opinions as facts, period. d) period.
