When did I claim that anyone's points were invalid..? I suggested people to see what this game does right instead of constantly complaining about such small things that don't make an entire game, nor ruin the experience of epic proportions (in handheld terms). I sure do ignore others' points, don't I.. -- Btw, your posts are the only thing I find repetitive in this thread to be honest.
Once you cover everything a game lets you do, you have to repeat it until the end of the game so that should not be a concern for any game. Does anyone find DeadSpace to be repetitive? or how about N.O.V.A.? You don't? Then ShadowGun is not repetitive. You do? Then you should already know whats up. Those games may have more or less to do while playing than ShadowGun, but you still can only do so much.
Sure you can make anything seem trite if you reduce the features down to a sentence. Only difference here is that I wasn't being reductive, to me that's all there is in this game. The weapons and explosions seem weak, environments all seem like quiet mosuleums rather than enemy fortresses being invaded, the enemies are dull with no personality, and the gunplay technically competent but not actually exciting. The gameplay just doesn't feel fun. And I have precedence with that judgement with the team's other action games. Of course, I'm basing all this off a demo of an early section of the game given to IPGN, and this might be fixed by release. I could very well be going crazy over the game Sept 28. I'm just saying that vid did nothing to sell me more on the game.
I started writing something about how you are projecting your experience with Samurai 2 into your viewing of the video. But, frankly, this is not a point worth arguing. The video is what it is -- action beats without context. If you'd rather form your opinion about the entire game from it, go ahead. As far as the action is concerned, it's not going to be "fixed" for you, since that footage is from an almost final build.
THIS LOOKS BETTER THAN ANYTHING GAMELOFT* HAS EVER SOLD THROUGH THE APPSTORE. SINCE THIS IS ABOVE WHAT GAMELOFT* IS CAPABLE OF, THIS GAME IS ALREADY EARNING MY $$$$. *(Gameloft games are the standard for top tier TPS/FPS, console experiences on iOS.) -put in caps to emphasize anger with whiny iOS gamers, who can't seem to wait, play then appreciate or criticize after a their impressions are warranted.
While I don't necessarily agree or disagree with your comment, if people say that the game looks bad from their immediate impressions from trailers, why is that a bad thing? Why are we trying to have opinions, whether they are good or bad, forced upon us? If someone thinks the game looks bad that's entirely down to them, and not down to you.
i second that, i feel the same by what i saw on this trailer, it looks kinda plane, i don't know if gameloft is capable of more or less, i'm judging what i saw in the trailer alone. although some ppl don't seem to believe you can get the feeling of the game through merely gameplay videos, they back up on "you have to play it"...
That's a fair point. But I would guess that someone who has played all 5+ hours of the game is in a good position to say whether that 10 minute video is a fair representation of it. It isn't. All I'm asking is that folks withhold judgement till they have more information. Frankly, I feel that the world (and the internet in particular) has altogether too many "opinions". What it lacks is judicious, informed arguments. I think it's okay for folks to approach something new and say: "you know, I'm not sure what I think about that." I don't really understand why people are in such a rush to close their minds. But that's s a topic for the Lounge .
You know what I think? I think we need a trailer that shows that there is more to the game than just runnign (or hiding behind something) and gunning. Who agrees?
Agreed. But you realize that the video we saw was not a proper trailer, but an edit put together by TouchGen. I'm hoping that a proper trailer would show more of the backstory and at least some of the humor in the game.
Well, humor is relative -- what I find funny may make you cringe and vice-versa. Let's just say that the main character struck me as quite likable, and his banter actually made me laugh more than once. As I wrote earlier, he's a bad ass but he doesn't take himself or the mission very seriously -- at least not till the sh@t hits the fan.
I never said that was a trailer. I mean they should make a 1 - 2 minute long video with short sinppets of some of the really good parts of the game.
