    @squarezero or Pureskill

In your honest opinion which looks better overall? Dead Space or ShadowGun (Character models, lighting animations etc.)

It's an opinion, which I'm entitled to, and if you don't see the obvious influences by Gears, then you're the f**king idiot. Now get lost.

Well, I'm neither, but Shadowgun makes use of normal mapping at least on the main character and uses (efficient) dynamic lightning with the "light probes" system from unity (might have wrong name). The artists at Madfinger are know to be excellent, so that helps too. Level design looks great and environments vast, as opposed to the "choked corridors" of Dead Space.
From what i've seen, Shadowgun looks and is technically superior.

They are, however, completely different games.

    12 times more?

Gears 3 is costing me ÂŁ35. ShadowGun will be $10? So ÂŁ6.99 or ÂŁ7.49 give or take some pence. And I doubt it will match Gears in terms of quality or story. Gears is far from overdone, but the third game is the end as you well know.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, and yes, Shadowgun's visual experience is obviously inspired from Gear of War...which is a great thing, there is nothing wrong with that.

What you did, however, was just troll.

Do you know what the budget is for a AAA title like Gears of War 3 ?
Me neither, but it's certainly more than what Madfinger can afford. Considering the quality of the team and the resources being GoW, it's obviously going to be a deeper game than Shadowgun.

My question is..Why are you even here talking about GoW being better ? When is GoW 3 coming to handheld devices again ?

It's tough to compare. They're both very immersive, with tons of atmosphere. But Dead Space basically takes place in dark corridors and, besides your character, all the NPCs are non-humanoid. Shadowgun is a much bigger and varied game, so I find it visually more impressive. But I wouldn't say that one is better than the other at what it does.

Dead Space looks pretty damn good when it is running on iPhone 4. Sure the screenshots of Shadowgun look good as well, but we won't know how it actually looks on the smaller screen until we play it.

That is hard to say. The graphic styles are different and they both look gorgeous with visually stunning graphics. ShadowGun is more like Nvidia graphics while Dead Space is more like ATI graphics and we all know that Nvidia is the way it is meant to be played.

Barqua went over the line, but so did you -- and you started it. If you want to express your opinion here, you've got to cool it down.

The character design of Shadowgun is obviously inspired by Gears. But the level and enemy design, as well as the story, tone, and overall gameplay, draw from many other sources. Like most games today (including GoW), Shadowgun is a mash up of ideas from games, movies, and popular culture. But the whole thing holds together well and feel like its own thing.

(and Dead Space is awesome too :D)
If a game looks sharp and gorgeous on a large screen, I have no doubt it will look great (and probably even better) on the smaller retina display.
I will probably play it hooked to my TV when i'm home though :p

Well said SZ. GoW is not the only source of inspiration for this game. It takes parts from other sources and uses them to make a brand new game. If you think this is a GoW clone, you would be wrong.
Dead Space is another game that you could say is similar but not the same in some aspects other than graphics, along with other inspiration sources.

Thanks I know that in terms of gameplay they are two completely different games.

I can't wait to see the varied environments in the game squarezero. Without the spoilers could you tell us where these might be minuus the warehouse/factory seen in the early gameplay video.

Ezak I think that the light probes need to be seen to be believed. They sound too good to be on these little devices.

PureSkill- Thanks for the analogy it helped me get it too. Is it like comparing Infinity Blade and Rage?

Yeah, that is a pretty good comparison. Both have graphics that stand out against the crowd, but are still fairly different from each other.

But to be clear for the literal-minded SHADOWGUN IS NOT ON RAILS. :D

@iVaro: I want to be careful with spoilers, but when I say varied, I mean in the Quake 3 and Prey (console version) sense, not in the Half-Life 2 sense, if you catch my drift.

They're here to improve performance it seems, it's not a new fancy effect, but an efficient method for lightning (i think). Not sure how they work, but anyway, I found the vid, check this out:

This game looks mint - and is probably my most anticipated title at the moment!
Personally I prefer the Shadowgun visuals to those of Deadspace. But they are i think going for different effects as Deadspace falls firmly into the survival horror genre and Shadowgun is a TPS.
