What? A new card contest? That's right, we may have just ended the last card contest but we've already got one to follow suit so players can exercise their creative juices! Humans have their Aeon Stormcaller but the Shadow faction will have an Epic rarity card of their own to boast and this is your chance to breathe life to one powerful card. Well technically, our Design Team will breathe life into the card by actually designing it but you get to come up with the name, so make it good. No wait, make it.. epic! Post your entries and find out more info here: http://www.shadowera.com/showthread.php?6624-Competition-Name-Shadow-s-New-Epic-Ally!-Win-cards! EDIT: The contest has ended, thank you to those that participated. If you missed it, hopefully you'll make it for the next one ^^.
Well it depends. Some people take ages to consume content. I'm still playing it and I'm enjoying it, as to how viable different kind of decks are. I do wish the computer players would get better decks and pose more of a challenge. There's some opponents that get bonus with weapons but there aren't any in their deck! Also I'd like to see low-cost weapons; a 2-cost bow/axe for example that could help a basic character inflict some damage. Still, a good game with great art.
We do plan to make the AI more sophisticated in v1.27 and they will provide more of a challenge. We may be shuffling their decks a bit so those with passive abilities geared towards weapons can actually make use of it ^^. But the plan is to have not only scalable difficulty, which is scheduled for v1.27, but also have the AI decks scale in difficulty as well. We're hoping to have v1.27 released sometime this week. As for lower costing weapons, they are designed for the first set. We just need to program the cards and finalize the art for them but we are working on finishing and introducing the rest of the first set ASAP.

Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,616 377 83 #1570 Talbs, Aug 15, 2011 I really hope SE adds in multiple deck saves per hero. The game's great so far for me but to keep it moving forward, multiple saves must be implemented. There's more than one way to skin a cat, and there's more than one way to build a deck for each hero. the9quad Well-Known Member Apr 27, 2011 968 0 0 #1571 the9quad, Aug 15, 2011 How much money do think it takes to build one competitive deck in your opinion? I've spent 20 dollars before I read up on it and feel I wasted money. Especially whn you consider, the value you get for games like Kard kombat and ascension etc.. Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,616 377 83 #1572 Talbs, Aug 15, 2011 How much to make 'A' competitive deck? To make just one competitive deck doesn't cost you much. Could potentially cost you nothing at all if your will to grind away on the AI matches. As I understand, all cards can be gained with paying your own money, just grind away on AI and you can get the gold to buy all of them. However, this takes time. To go competitive really all you'd need and in a reasonable time frame would be maybe $3 or not even. If you want multiple competitive decks than upwards of $10. BUT... You can get all cards just by grinding on the AI. I think this games pricing and option to grid on AI is reasonable. Ok it could be cheaper of course. AnAdolt Well-Known Member Feb 27, 2010 307 0 0 Canada #1573 AnAdolt, Aug 15, 2011 I disagree, there's only one way to skin a cat: Stop skinning cats! Haha, okay, but seriously though, multiple save slots per hero is something I personally want to see implemented as well and we should have it in the near future. @the9quad The game is free to play, Shadow Crystal purchase is optional. If you didn't do any homework and made bad investment choices with your money, that's not the game's fault. There's lots of resources on the forum where the community informs players of suggested routes, including purchases. the9quad Well-Known Member Apr 27, 2011 968 0 0 #1574 the9quad, Aug 15, 2011 Last edited: Aug 15, 2011 You are exaggerating, it takes alot more than 3 dollars to build a viable deck. You also have to grind for a really long time to make enough to build a viable deck. It was my fault for not reading forum posts and the chart, yes there is a chart on probabilities of getting cards from different purchasable decks. I learned my lesson. If they ever offer a deal where you can spend 10 dollars for 80 cards of your choice or hell even 15 dollars, then I would play again. I just don't like the whole spend money and you "might" get what you want business model. So although it is obviously a quality game, there are just better options available now, imo that treat their customers better (i.e. "you get what you pay for", not "you might get what you want when you purchase this"). Also, here is a hint if you have a game and you have paying customers, insulting them especially ones who actually spent money ( 20 dollars (for the appstore) on one game is quite a bit btw) on your game comes off as really infantile. So i guess I know where not make "investment choices" in the future. AnAdolt Well-Known Member Feb 27, 2010 307 0 0 Canada #1575 AnAdolt, Aug 15, 2011 I presume you were referring to me when you said "insulting them", in which case I'd have to ask, "when did I insult you exactly?". I wasn't and there was no intention to insult you. It seemed like you were trying to blame the game with "feel I wasted money. Especially whn you consider, the value you get for games like Kard kombat and ascension etc.." so I mentioned that you just had a bad purchasing experience because you didn't do any research beforehand. I never actually mentioned in my last post, or probably in this thread, that you can make a viable deck with $3. Having said that, you actually can though. Purchase bonuses aside, let's just say you have 300 Shadow Crystals. You can purchase three starter packs, which leaves you with about 2000 gold on the side, that's enough to finish up a decent Human deck. Your deck won't be top 20 competitive but it'll get pretty close and if you don't want to spend money, there are many free offers you can do to earn Shadow Crystals. Many players have gotten literally thousands of Shadow Crystals simply from doing free offers and not actually spending a dime. I should clarify that starter packs are preconstructed, it's mentioned before you buy them, so there's no randomness. There's threads in the forum that lists the content of all of the starter packs. Booster packs are the ones that contain random cards. So if you purchase starter packs, then you can, as you put it, "get what you pay for". Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,616 377 83 #1576 Talbs, Aug 15, 2011 Sorry 9squad, i have to agree mostly with adolt. Te thing you do to alleviate the randomness is to buy the precondtructed decks and then sell what you don't want. $3 (clarifying it was me who said that bit adolt), gets you on your way to a good deck reasonably quickly and just grind a little on the AI too. To come back to 9squads side I think the prices maybe could be a bit cheaper perhaps. I've also bougth $20 worth but I think it's gotten me a fair way, it's just that if I want every card (4 sets of each) so that I can make every kind of deck possible, then it may require a little more money. Then again I don't know because haven't tried to get absolutely everything. Buy constructed decks, sell what you don't need, and grind a bit to make up the shortfall. Done Now when's 1.27 coming out? I can't play on the test server right now so I really wanna see the new cards in the flesh!!! AnAdolt Well-Known Member Feb 27, 2010 307 0 0 Canada #1577 AnAdolt, Aug 15, 2011 The game is free to play so it's fairly cheap as is. With the struggling economy, we can understand if players are reluctant to spend their disposable income though. We are working to finish up the first set so we can release more, as well as adding many new in-game features like guilds and releasing physical cards. So while you can directly lower prices, you can also add more features and content to the game and indirectly lower prices by making the game such a bargain for its current price. Regarding v1.27, there's no set time-frame at the moment. We are aware our longtime players are starting to get bored and we are trying to release v1.27 as soon as we can so players have new cards to spice things up. the9quad Well-Known Member Apr 27, 2011 968 0 0 #1578 the9quad, Aug 15, 2011 Fair enough, but be honest. You can get very little crystals or whatever you call them by doing the free deals. The majority of those deals require you to sign up for some type of subscription which cost more then you would spend if you just bought the crystals themselves. Maybe in your forum you have hidden deals or something, but the ones you have from within the app are of this variety. Shadow Era is a well designed very fun game, I am not denying that. Let me reiterate that point, it is extremely fun, well built, and alot of people dig its pricing structure. I was just disappointed in the pricing model myself; even to the point of acting like a baby about it ( i can be honest). But looking at the competition you can see that building competitive decks (as in the only disadvantage one guy has from another is how he chooses to build his deck) in shadow era requires a lot of forum reading, a decent amount of cash and a little bit of luck. The model just seems like it is a holdover from physical cards, and doesn't appeal to me. I don't think I am the target audience to be honest. My ideal game would let me spend a set amount of money and get everything (up to $40). Magic lets you do this, Kard Kombat lets you do this, this one doesn't. As a result, I just ended up having a bitter taste in my mouth from shelling out $20, and only then realizing I should have went to a forum, I should have searched how to build a deck, I should have further refined my search to figure out exactly what cards are still viable in deck builds for the current patch, then I should have read a chart explaining the probabilities of getting said cards in the least amount of money etc.. I am sure that kind of set up appeals to quite a few people (and could even be second nature to them), it just doesn't do it for me. Unless I am missing something, this is what you should be doing if you want to build a deck. To give this excellent game a fair shake, I am going to spend another $20. just to show you I am not a chode, who whines for no reason. But telling people who are your customers that it's their own fault for not doing all that prior to spending money in your store is insulting, and that is what I meant earlier. Not everyone comes from a card playing background where they collected pokemon cards or whatnot as a teenager, so the whole spend an hour in the forums prior to buying something in your store is a bit of a learning curve that your app does nothing to explain. I hope you understand where I am coming from and take no offense. It is not that people are reluctant to spend their disposable income, they just want to spend it and be done with it, so they can play the game with out feeling handicapped or doing a research project.
