I had the same problem you describe when I use Google Chrome. But fortunately I still have my IE installed. IE didn't give me the same problem.
If my opponent has a Portal out but I play a Net Trap, shouldn't the Net Trap's ability take precidence? I was just playing the AI a few minutes ago, and figured that I had a reprieve from their Portal since I was ready to Net Trap their next ally, but the Net Trap had no effect and the enemy still did its damage.
Yes, that has been fixed in the next version. The trap will still take effect even if the opponent has a Portal in play.
iOS Trading-Card Game Shadow Era Racks Up 200,000 Players by Inside Mobile Apps http://www.insidemobileapps.com/2011/03/07/ios-trading-card-game-shadow-era Also some really good points about the new player experience that we have improved in the next update
Wow, Kyle Poole. I didn't realize that you made this game. I remember playing your games waaaaay back in the day on Palm devices. I remember getting super excited about your GBA emulator for the Tapwave Zodiac, back in what, 2004? Glad to see your still making stuff! Shadow Era is great fun, and I've already dropped $12 on it. Keep it coming, I love being able to play a nice looking CCG on my iPhone during the slow times at work.
Ahhh, Tapwave Zodiac... A great device that got killed off too soon when the PSP was announced. Basically as powerful as an iPod Touch 2g, one of the first mobile devices with hardware accelerated OpenGL, and great for games with a built-in joypad. Oh, and this was like 8 years ago. Anyways, Shadow Era submission... Yeah, still working on it, testing all the new armor and weapons to make sure there are no major problems or balance issues. Hopefully soooooon, this is a huge update already. I like the idea of doing a new card preview every day until the update hits, although hopefully it won't be that many days.
I really want to like this game, but right now it leaves a lot to be desired. I've been playing with "poor" Victor Heartstriker. Somehow I managed to climb into the 300's ratings-wise. But now for every 15 games I play, I might win one (and usually that's just freak luck). I try to enjoy it, though, by just seeing how long I can last or how much damage I can do before old Victor meets his inevitable demise. But I'm assuming this character will get stronger with the next update, so that's why I'm sticking with him. At any rate, I just wanted to mention a couple of issues. First, I wonder if this game will ever really be balanced. Every time you bring out new cards, the "kids" will gobble them up (which is great if you're the developer) and then in very short order everyone will know what the 2-3 best builds are. So 95% of the players will adopt those builds and then dominate play. Of course, you are free to adopt such a build yourself, but then... And this is my second point. Once you have one of the better builds and you're going against other similar decks, how much strategy is really involved? I mean, given the randomness of the draw, it really just comes down to a game of chance; let's face it, once you've played long enough, it's hard to make a wrong decision. It seems to me it would be better: 1) if you knew each other's hands ahead of time, and 2) could pull any card at any time. In this case, you could actually devise strategies (i.e., anticipate your opponents moves and set up counters) and therefore minimize the extent to which the game boils down to a (glorified) game of chance. OK, just my two bits...still willing to be patient and give it a chance...
Well, that can be said about any trading card game... The element of chance is there to make things interesting. If you know what your opponent had, then you would just pick opponents your deck can beat, and it wouldn't be very fun. About deck building, you might notice that last week almost everybody was using Eladwen decks. Now because of that, we have seen a big shift to "Eladwen-killer" decks. That makes sense and is a natural evolution of the metagame. Each release will bring new cards and change the balance to make things interesting and keep you playing. That's a good thing for everyone, I think! I would also note that once you go up in rating, you will start to face more experienced players, so of course it will be more difficult. But you are right that hunters and warriors will get a lot better with the next update.
well, all tcg games with random draw are games of luck, even on pro level luck plays important role too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmB0nlpz_2Y
So, stop it being a CCG? The type of game you seem to be after is chess. A brilliant game that has stood the test of time. CCGs like Shadow Era, MTG, Yu Gi Oh etc. are not designed to be played that way, and wouldn't work at all that way.
Ever played chess? Each player has exactly the same pieces and capabilities and yet there is still a TON of strategy involved.
