Urgh multiplayer sync issues plague me today. Also zaladar's steadfast refusal to let me use his power keeps costing me matches. I will persist with my elemental deck tho, cos I love using other peoples allies against them ha!
Yeah.. They are clearly written "shadow ability" @currymutton: why u think they are neutral cards? A neutral card has "neutral" written on it
@scarypharaoh: The Eternal Renewal card has been found to cause sync issues, and Zaladar has a bug where he can't use his ability without any enemy allies in play. Both have been fixed for the next release, but you might want to keep this in mind if you play Elementals. @currymutton: sorry for your confusion. The next update will give you a warning if you try to buy a card that you can't use.
Cheers for the info, I'm just seeing it as an extra challenge using the elemental deck till it gets fixed mainly cos elemental is really good fun even with slight glitchiness
From Twitter (@hodapp): # After playing CCG's competitively for so long all these other games just feel like knock-offs to me. Hard to compete with 20 years of R&D. Wed Feb 23 13:55:38 2011 via Twitter for Mac # Playing a pre-release of iOS Shadow Era really makes me wish they could just use the game engine for a real M:TG game instead of this. 1:51 PM Feb 23rd via Twitter for Mac That doesn't bode well for a front page mention for SE on TA
Yay you found them too! Yeah pretty shitty if you ask me... Why not give a game a chance? Especially one on iOS? ESPECIALLY one that will be supported and is all digital? I don't know... rediculous if you ask me. This game is fine and can only grow up.
I agree with TA from time to time, they recommend some apps and not all of time suit my taste (and waste $$$ as a result). I am very happy and grateful that I am on SE from Day 1. I will keep playing (from time to time but lately I must admit I am playing a lot more) and watch this game grow and get stronger!
Well, he can wait for MTG on the iphone. I'm sure that'll be along any day now. The good thing about MTG is that the 6 trillion cards would require very little beta testing. And, unlike the current online version of MTG where most of the individual cards cost as much as an iphone app each (or the bloody iphone itself), they'd probably throw the whole lot in for a few pounds. And, despite the complexity of MTG, which adds new card effects/changes ban lists/changes the rules completely every couple of weeks, I'm sure it'd be really stable on the iphone, especially online. So, let's just ignore CCGs that are less complex, but allow fluid online play and a fairly even playing field (due to the library of cards being very accessible), and just focus on a pipe dream of a MTG game that runs really well and doesn't cost thousands of pounds to play. That's a sensible approach. FFS.
Personally I think that's a really dumb comment for an editor to make. They post about all the Gameloft games... Seriously though, Shadow Era was one of the most anticipated games in TA's own upcoming forum, has a known and well-respected developer that does tons of huge updates for his apps, and it's the first full-scale TCG on the iPhone. Plus free to play to top it off. Now the Shadow Era thread is one of the most active on TA with more than 100 posts per day, and has great reviews from all the other major sites. By not posting about it, TA is really doing a disservice to its readers, and I haven't heard anything back from hodapp after several pms. And hodapp, you competitive CCG person you, I guarantee we have Shadow Era players that are more highly ranked than you at MTG and love Shadow Era. So stop sounding all snooty, if that's a word.
snooty [ˈsnuːtɪ] adj snootier, snootiest Informal 1. aloof or supercilious 2. snobbish or exclusive a snooty restaurant snootily adv snootiness n
the game is looking good, kyle. thanks for the hard work. as for TA, come on. if you got beef, print it here.
Wow, I'm really disappointed in Eli. I thought TA's stance on Gameloft ripoffs was something along the line of "well we'll never get Halo/Modern Warfare/Starcraft/Zelda/etc on iOS, so what's the harm with these well-made clones?". If they go that easy on Gameloft's offerings (which are blatant imitations), why not give SE a chance? That sucks. So what does it mean when their Eladwen attacks my Zaladar? Or Items attack my guys? Is this guy cheating?
My own conspiracy theory is that they don't need to post about it because it's a free game, so they don't make any commission when people click the link, so what's the rush? For sure if they were making a commission they would post about it immediately on release day... But now they can wait a week or more since they are busy at gdc and it won't matter.
Any chance of a small update with just bug fixes, before the one that adds the new cards? I realize that adding content is much more difficult, so it'd be great to get this fixes in the mean time. If you ask for an expedited review I'm sure you could get it approved in only a few days. Even my very low profile game got approved in 4 days without even asking for expedited reviews. I'm sure apple is paying attention to what you're doing. That way you could take your time with the content update, but we could play the game properly in the mean time. Since I use elementals the issues are really turning me off to the game. Also sneak a disconnection penalty in there while you're at it. I really think critical bug fixes should come out as soon as possible. We can wait for extra content.
