I think it's a bit early to be worrying about balance too much, since about half of the first set is yet to come out. Things will probably be completely different once weapons and armors are available. If there's a clearly broken deck then, we can moan all we want.
Yeah I agree. I'm not really worried about it, I just don't get the opinion that a lot of people have that imbalance is what keeps the game interesting and should be a part of the game design.
Matchmaking through game center has some huge advantages on iOS platforms, namely that you can invite your friends that are not currently playing the game. They will get a push notification and the game will launch if they accept. We absolutely plan to add this in the big multiplayer update. The game however will also support internal friend lists and guilds, which will sort waiting games from friends or guildmates higher on the multiplayer game list. A password entry or game option of "friends only" will easily allow you to challenge your friends on any platform.
It makes no sense. More viable cards with different effects means more variety, more countermeasures, more creative combination, more replayability. People who think imbalance is necessary for the structural support of a CCG-type game (and or metagame) just haven't experienced (or thought much about) what an element-balanced game looks like.
Exactly. After i playef mind control on aeon, i cant attack. I thought, ok.. Maybe the effect is still there for this turn. But i could never attack again. I sacrificed aeon to gain health, at least remove him off the board. But still ... ..... Couldnt find concede button. And beaten to death. Glad this is will be fixed. Update for this game, i would prefer to give statistic win-lose per deck/hero and if possible win/lose to what hero. I see in the upcoming update, we can select opp (online) to play with. Can you give info too on what hero is a player playing. If people sick of eladwen thing.. At least they can choose not to fight them. I think this is better than nerf some cards. I dont know, but to me.. Imbalance deck can happen cos you can combine cards to make powerful one.. Knowing a card is too powerful is hard. A card can be powerful in a right deck or combination. When new sets coming, metagame will shift.. Flavor of the month will change.. Thats the way of TCG. Look at MTG. There are theme decks as per big set... The era of goblins, black control, blue white control, affinity, degree of .. were powerful. But they didnt banned the cards that made the deck so strong. Instead, coming new sets to shift to diff theme. If a card is still broken in many themes.. Than lets talk about restricting it or even banned it. Look at Black lotus from MTG that cost zero and sacrifice it to get 3 additional resources for that turn. It was banned for good
I sort of get where people are coming from, in a way an extension of the "it's the journey, not the destination" phrase. Not that I think that means you should intentionally break anything. I think it's the act of trying to attain balance that's the most interesting, but balance itself would get boring very quickly. If nothing is powerful or unique then there's nothing to discover. It fuels the social side of it too, all those "this card is crazy, this card needs buffing" discussions. If a new set came out that was perfectly balanced, you're left with "anything exciting in the new set?" "Nope, nothing stood out". On top of that I think striving for balance is important, but I also think it's unattainable. There will always be a better option and gamers will find it because they're inherently "shortest route between two points is a straight line" kind of people. Most games seem to come down to efficiency. Even apples and oranges comparisons, say the powers of Eladwin and Nishaven, players will attempt to quantify them and decide which is useful more often. So yeah, short version, balance is unattainable, but we enjoy the back and forthness of striving for it...but don't break stuff on purpose. ...although I do suspect Blizzard breaks certain classes in WoW specifically so they'll get their turn in the sun later.
How's the speed of the server? Still fast and everything? We're scaling out to support 10x the users, plus adding servers in europe
The problem with an imbalance at this stage in the game is that EVERY SINGLE PLAYER will use 4 of the imbalanced card in question.
I disagree with this, why should you know what hero a player is using before you face them? If Eladwen decks are harder for your deck to beat, you will just avoid playing against them, the same with any type of deck your deck may not be as strong against. This will allow you to build a deck that is good against one kind of hero, and then just look for people using that hero to increase your chances to win and boost your rating.
We are also adding a new beta server that players can use to test out new features and balance changes in development before it goes live. It won't be connected to you main account though, so we can offer all cards for 1g each
That sounds really interesting. I still love the game, but I think I'll be taking a break until the update goes live. I have a really sweet Elementalis mill deck, that leads to really unique and interesting matches right down to the last card. The point is to take everything the opponent throws at me ans survive by sacrificing small allies, clearing the board with energy discharge and slowing my opponent with rain delays. Plus Bazaar and Bad Santa to speed up the drawing. It works really well, even against Eladwen Portal decks, however in order to win I need to cast Eternal Renewal. This seems to trigger a bug and I get a sync issue right when I have my opponent right where I want him. Spending 20 minutes setting up a sweet win, only to have to quit is really annoying. Of course there's no bug when I lose, since it happens before I cast Renewal. If the fix for this is ready, I'd suggest putting a minor bug fix update requesting an expedited review from Apple and only then worry about the update adding new cards. Since the bug makes the deck pretty much unplayable (even though it's good), I switched to a Zaladar beat down deck. If things go my way I'll be doing more than 15 damage by turn 3, after which a lot of people simply quit since there's no penalty (match is too short to gain experience). I suggest checking for damage as well as lenght. If you have less than half your life, then the match has not been too short. Of course when things don't go my way, the will be longer and I'll lose. So in the current environment, even with competitive decks, I can't win.
Okay, so I rebooted and closed down all other apps, tried a match, and actually finished without the app closing. But seriously, I'm using 4.0 and other apps don't close after using them for 5 minutes. It seems like there are some serious memory leaks. Are these being addressed in the next update?
It's not necessarily SE that is having a memory leak. Could be any app(s) you run causing it. However, if your device is low on memory (due to memory leaks or open apps or anything else) SE can choke and crash. I've found it's just a good idea to reboot every once in a while to keep things running smooth (maybe once a week). Q
I didn't say constantly, but it is somewhat consistent. 30 card deck, 8 1cc allies, 4 shards, 4 bloodlust. If I go first the odds are pretty high that it goes through. Best case scenario, 3 sparks, you do 18. 2 sparks, 13. And 1 or no sparks, 10. You should pretty much always do at least 10 if you go first. Of course people only quit when I do get it. Since when it doesn't go through I usually end up losing, I'm losing a lot of matches and winning almost none. I only win against classy people that play all the way to the end.
Please tell me when AI matches are going to improve. I'm really getting tired of playing nothing but 3 wolves, the undead, and banebow. Why can't you fight ALL the decks when playing AI? I'm already at level 8 and for the last 6 levels it's been exactly the same opponents.
Play me, I'm using a Human hunter deck right now that is holding its own against all. EDIT: nvm didn't read the AI parts of post
Love this game! Kyle, I was just wondering if there will be an ability to have Friends, In-game Chat, Play with Friends, and Co-op game modes in the future? Is it releasing for my android friends anytime soon? This may have already been asked, if so I apologize in advance. Thanks!
I've been having this problem as well this week. I've closed everything, rebooted and still struggled to get through games (this morning I didn't have a problem, but last night it froze in the first game after rebooting).
