Complaints about cards/decks There are always going to be cards or decks that are unbalanced and the trick is to build your own deck(s) to combat what you see out there. If Eladwen is winning most duels, the tide will eventually shift as better players build decks to compete favorably. Complaints about Sandra & Here Be Monsters are not valid issues. MTG has had land destruction since the original Alpha cards were published. The only problem is they are no fun to play against and can be extremely frustrating. The best way to combat resource destruction is to build decks with useful cards that cost only 2 resources. While that will constrict what you can do, if you're sitting with Puwens and Blakes while your opponent just destroys your resources, you're going to win. Personally, I do have some misgivings about SE but I haven't seen any of them addressed in the forums. 1) I see a sameness in the cards that is quickly leading me to burnout - there are just so many iterations of 2/3 mana - 2/3 strength - 2/3 health and most of the cards, even with some special ability, are just run of the mill. I won't say boring, but in 80% of the games I have played, there's little doubt who is going to win after the 6th or 7th turn. The odds for dramatic comebacks are extremely low, it's just not built into either the cards or the system. 2) Heroes are almost all way OVERPOWERED. Cast Aldon or Keldor and have it burned the very next turn, I don't know, it just seems crazy that you're casting the card just to sacrifice it to the Hero's ability to get the ability out of the way for a couple of turns. And just wait until you see what the weapons can do for Amber. I suspect she will rule in the next phase. My 2c. Rip it apart.
Just wait. Once the full 200 cards are out, things will be quite a bit different. And then when expansions start figuring into the mix things will really get interesting. Remember, MtG Alpha got boring after a while too and there was a 300 card pool available. But each and every expansion has shifted the metagame and reinvigorated the game by throwing new twists and strategies into the mix. A year from now SE will be a totally different game than it is now and half the fun is the journey of discovery along the way.
@amn624 so only one problem with sinkhole was that it's no fun to play against? and Here be Monsters and Sandra are cards of different power level, at least in current format. agree about Amber, i also think she will rule after new update. @Quorlan yep, Homelands has really reinvigorated the game.
I can only go off my own personal experiences, but for me, the only game in town for my iPhone at the moment is this. Hands down no game has had me as hooked as this. Card debates are great and part of the community experience, but above all that, the game is just fun. Personally I can't wait for the multiplayer options to be expanded so we can form friends lists/rivalries and possible tournaments
This +1. Part of the fun of getting into TCG's (Especially from the beginning) are seeing the expansions and learning completely new tactics as the game ages.
Sandras are obviously better than HBM and are better Sinkholes (less so than Strip Mines), but there are answers and solutions to her. If there weren't, the game wouldn't have 200,000 users. The only point of consequence is that (like MTG) the game is supposed to be about shifting strategies and tactics. I was immersed totally in MTG for years, played in one PT event and in 2 US Nationals. My Suicide Black deck was featured in Beth Moursand's Deck Deconstruction book but there was always an answer. As good as Necro decks were, there was always an answer against them. Same here. Just because the solutions may not be obvious only days after the release of SE does not mean the solutions are not to be found. And yes, releases of new cards will address all of those concerns. Unfortunately, I honestly believe the power of the heroes makes for a less interesting experience than MTG. I sincerely hope I am eventually proved wrong on that count.
Well I think it makes it more interesting, but I think they should be one time use like in the WoW TCG. Hero's has dope ass powers but when you used them once, you flipped the hero over and it couldn't be used again till next game. I like that idea.
Just had annoying online game issue. I played elemental devk vs zanna. After some time i managed to get my opp to 9 health. Then suddenly i cant attack.. Cant attack at all. Until my opp wipe my allies out of board. I casted few allies again. But still i cant attack. What the?????
@amn624 mtg has a lot of answers, but Shadow Era not, at least now. sure there are not so many cards like now. but the same one can say about your complaints about heroes, new cards can change the situation. but it's useless discussion, we'll see what Kyle brings in new updates.
I think Kyle may have missed my question. How do you plan on keeping it crossplatform if you put matchmaking through Game Center...?
Ok. I don't get the Merchant. I have 5-6 Shard of Power, but when I try to sell them, it says I only have 2...? I thought the merchant should show ALL cards I own, not just the ones that aren't being used in a deck...?
i, for one, am still pretty excited about this game. i've been waiting for the new cards to drop before i play any more. i may end up changing decks and don't want to build up more gold only to chuck it all when i reset... but yeah, balance issues maybe (although that's easy for me to say as i just stick to the AI), but i'm still impressed and looking forward to the new cards and campaigns and whatnot. keep up the good work.
@aoisora There are a few bugs right now that may prevent you from attacking normally. I'm guessing you used Mind Control on an Aeon Stormcaller. If so, you'll be pleased to know this will be fixed in the upcoming update. @IzzyNobre Regarding Game Center, because SE aims to be very accessible by being very cross-platform, the only integration will be rankings and achievements for Game Center. That's just my conjecture though. Game Center ranking seems to also be unilateral to the official SE rankings as well. If a player on the official ranking does not have a Game Center account or does not associate the app with Game Center, then they're not ranked there. So on the official ranking, #2 may be seen as #1 if the official #1 did not associate the app with Game Center. Regarding selling cards to the merchant, currently, all cards not in your current deck will show up in the merchant for sale. This, however, will also include cards that may be in another deck that you saved but is not in your currently selected deck. But I recall, from one of your previous posts, that you found this out the hard way.
I just worry that without GameCenter, finding and playing against your friends will be a major hassle. This is why I hate Gameloft Live, I could never find my buddies on Modern Combat 2! Re:Merchant: only cards NOT in my current deck show up, then. Right? Ok. I think I get it now (finally, hehe).
Again (and I'm sure Kyle will agree and clearly, WotC always intended), there must be imbalances and each new release will cause new imbalances. It's part of what the game is all about. Otherwise, the game would be flat and boring. There are just so many iterations with X number of cards. X+Y cards offers new ideas and the game is refreshed. That is why MTG players always eagerly anticipate the release of the newest sets.
Honestly, playing against the exact same Eladwen deck over and over and over again is far more flat and boring, but that's just me. I'm so glad it's getting nerfed.
I don't get why everyone seems to think that imbalance is what keeps the game fun and that balance=boring. I'd much rather play a game where both people are on even footing and careful deck construction and game play lead to winning. A poorly balanced game leads to everyone either playing the flavor-of-the-month deck or building a deck specifically to beat it while other classes and cards go largely unused. Don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast with this game so far but I really hope that future card releases will balance out the heroes a little better.
not to beat a dead horse, but there's a huge difference between imbalance by design and unintentional imbalance. one is figuring out how to play strong, expensive cards and weak, cheap cards, etc. etc. is as many viable ways as possible, and the other is breaking the dynamic that allows you to build those multiple deck variations.
