I've played a lot of this game over the last 3 days and hitting burn out point now. Here are the reasons:

Offline: AI opponents always the same, always too easy. 4 wolf decks and a couple other are all the choices you get. No incentive to push for higher levels. Rewards don't increase even though you need more exp the higher you go. The only way you can have some fun with the AI now is to use starter decks as they are. Playing a built deck against the AI is only good for grinding out exp and measly gold, and this gets boring really fast.

Online: I hated it when people dropped me from games half way through, or two minutes in. Now I'm starting to do the same because I'm sick of playing people with the exact same one or two decks, most of them a mirror of my mage deck. I admit I just followed someone's 'deck build' for this and got all the good cards (without spending a cent by the way) but it's really taking the fun out of it.
Games go on too long, people don't react fast enough. Sometimes wating for ten minutes for a guy to make a move and then I get fed up and disconnect. Much easier to gain exp and gold by playing the AI.

I played my mage against a slow wolf deck and it was painfully long. Now, if I see that 'damage halved' wolf hero in an online match, I drop out right away because I know it will go on for a half hour or more.

Really need to have a 'starter deck' only category for online play. I used to play MTG all the time in the 90's and I can see the same problems starting here with the 'competitive hardcore crowd' taking all the fun out of it. When I saw the marketplace missing certain cards and the prices going up to 600 gold for one card, this is not a good thing.

I totally agree that most people drop when they don't go first in pvp. I start to do it myself as well because I know I'm just going to lose anyway if I don't get first turn in a higher level match. I'm only at 280 but it's always the same decks I see.

Regardless of these problems, I did have a lot of fun, but mostly BEFORE I started to build the best deck I could.

@Jainc78 I'm not aware of it, if there is a level cap. Yeah, the experience required to level up will keep rising; it's a exponential curve. AI currently doesn't get smarter, the higher your level, but it's planned to be. As for reward being increased due to your level, I'm guessing this probably won't happen. Right now, you can be as high as level 18 and rewards are still the same.

    Awesome Mage deck building strategy

1.write down the name of all the Mage cards on a large piece of paper
    2. Have a hamster or other small rodent walk over the paper
    3. The names that the hamster touches put into your deck
    4. Win

Yeah games vs ai are way too easy and playing the same decks sucks especially online. It sux that u almost need to go first to win in pvp. We need some changes quick to hold interest in pvp and solo play. And something gotta be done about online matches asap cuz the fun is getting sucked out.

Yeah, to some, the current state of the game does not show the full potential and I suspect many like myself hesitate to invest more into the game as AI is still challenging to many of us. On the contrary, I read that the most powerful cards get sold out pretty fast. I really think we need a need matching system. :)

I would wait till the weapon card set to arrive as it is kinda game-changing to me.

Thanks for whoever out there who gives me the first taste of online duel.

I think the game will be great when it has 3 or 4 times as many cards as it does now. As it is now it's a little unbalanced which is to be expected at this early of a stage. That being said I don't think I will be playing it too much more until new cards come out as now it's more irritating than fun to me.

Very thorough and in-depth analysis, hairpiece of Shatner. If that's what we're looking at if we invest ourselves in the game, I might just stay away until card variety increases, and the multiplayer mechanics have been improved.

You will be happy to hear that dropping games will soon be counted as a loss.

Wow, some negativity creeping in now I see! I feel like you do see a lot of mage decks, but this will change when the weapons are released I am sure.

Kyle, how many new cards do you plan to introduce? Is there a technical limitation on the number of cards you can add? Will we see a few cards per update, or a longer wait for an update but then a larger pool of cards being introduced?

IMO - I do feel it's a bit soon to nerf certain cards when brand new weapons, armour and items are just around the corner and could naturally even things out.Surely once one card is nerfed, the haters will just start to grumble about the next most powerful (sorry - unbalanced...) card in the set until it too is nerfed.

Suggestion - how about listing some stats on hero usage on the website? would be interesting to see how it is now and how it changes as new cards are added to the game.

I don't think Eladwen's ability is so broken that it deserved a nerf.

It's basically just a Fireball that can only be played agains allies for 3 energy. Zaladar has basically a full fledged Lightning Ball for 4 energy (the card's cost) that can attack anything (though for some unexplainable reason doesn't work if there's only 1 target, bug anyone?).

Banebow does 2 damage to up to 2 targets for 3 energy which is just crazy. Since it can target only the hero a do 4 damage (at least the AI does). Now that's totally broken, yet no nerf?

It's clear that the predilection for mage decks has a lot to do with portal, which is a bit broken. Nothing that can't be solved by adding a few item removal cards instead of nerfing it. Going for the nerf should be used as a last resource and we weren't there yet IMO.

Gotta say I'm in TOTAL agreement with folks who are saying nerfing cards at this stage of the game is probably going too far. I think until all the first edition cards are available nerfing cards only addresses short term overpower problems and the dynamics will likely shift dramatically once all cards are present.

I also agree that item and ability removal would be a perfect way to "balance" potentially broken cards like Portal by providing a way to deal with those items rather than just changing the items themselves.

As someone who has designed or participated in the design of a few CCGs over the past 15 years, I can attest to the fact that balancing issues are rarely if ever solved by altering the cards themselves.

Yeah, but as someone who also has had a fair amount of experience with CCGs, I think the difference here is that the power is there to alter all cards at the same time to stay in cohesion. The problem of real cards is that you can issue addendums all day long but not everyone plays with them, you can only amend what the card says so much, etc.. Here that this just isn't the case. If something isn't working there is nothing to prevent wholesale fixing across all related cards and that's a power that should be used where there are balance problems. I would really, really hate to see a good game get marred by the sort of "you printed it, it exists, so I'm using it!" type munchkins I dealt with for so many years when I was spending my retirement savings on MTG and other games.

Keeping the game playable, balanced, and fun should be the first and only goal. If full price buy backs for singles that are altered has to be offered, fine, but, while I agree that most dramatic changes should wait for all the "first edition" cards to be implemented to see how things shake out, I don't agree that Kyle should resist revising card text, powers, costs, etc. if it makes for a better game yet angers a loud minority.

I am in total agreement that the power to alter the cards SHOULD be exercised if it's the only way to deal with a problem, especially a game balance issue. My statement was meant only to suggest that these types of alterations should be reserved until we see the effects the full card set has on game balance and that when a change is considered it be considered carefully and as completely as possible before being implemented into the game.

    noob question

I am really enjoying this game on iPhone, however I am rather horrible at the moment. I decided to buy a new deck to see if I could do any better with it, but I can not figure out how to use it or change Heros. Any one know how to do that or tips on how to adjust a deck to beat the world fights (not multiplayer).

    thanks.

At the very top/center of the screen there's a little notch that actually is a pull down menu...in that menu you can access the Decks section where you can save/load a deck for each hero you have. Hope this helps.

oohh wow. I never noticed that and it is rather hard to see. Thanks so much for the help, I now know how to switch decks. Hopefully I can find the right formula, because a Hunter deck is not doing much for me.

    Thanks again.

The update (which should be out in the next week or so, hopefully) will make that menu more obvious along with a number of other switches. Included in the update will be weapons which should make your hunter deck much better.

    Enjoy.

It crashes for me every time I'm about halfway through a battle.

I use an iPhone 4, iOS 4.0 and I don't have any apps running in the background. The fact of the matter is apps should never crash if they are built correctly.
