Wow. That is simply gorgeous. And that looks like the most complex TCG system on the iphone yet. The resource system reminds me of the VS TCG system - I think it used the same thing. And using a hero card is interesting too - I actually recently designed a simple TCG that also uses a card for a hero (instead of the player). It's a nice twist on gameplay. So how many heroes will come with the game? Just one, or a selection?

Can you explain the cards themselves - the different icons/numbers?

    Great stuff Kyle.

That game looks so fantastic! Looks like the request of both didn't go unheard! You did a great job with Wesnoth, and I have complete and total faith I will love this game :)

Top left - resource cost to cast/summon
    Bottom left - attack damage
    Bottom right - health

You get to pick a specific target to attack. So why not go straight for the hero? Well, obviously the enemy can do the same, so sometimes it is smarter to take out their allies first! ;) Plus some cards have the "defender" ability, which means they can jump in and block your attack, making themselves the target. Heroes can only attack with a weapon or ability card.

Yes, you can play as both shadows and humans in the game. There are 300 cards in the first set, obviously with more expansions to come in the future.

The game is free to play! To start, you will get a random pre-constructed human hero deck. (there are 10 different heroes) You will gain experience and gold by playing games and completing missions. You will get a mini-pack of 3 cards each time to level up, plus you can buy new card packs with your earned gold. Or, of course, you can buy booster packs with a mix of common, uncommon and rare cards through in-game purchase or by completing "trial offers" on our website (if you've played facebook games, you know what this is...)

The game is a hybrid online/offline system: you can play offline against the AI anytime, but to complete missions, challenge other players and get new cards you have to connect to our servers.

The game will be launched on iPad, iPhone and web/facebook simultaneously

Kyle, will the trial offers be done THROUGH facebook?

I have zero problem doing that stuff through something you set up but if it requires facebook I'll end up passing on it

No, you don't have to use facebook. You can sign in on our website to play the game or complete trial offers for free packs, or pay by paypal/credit card if you don't want to do in-app purchases.

If you've never heard of "trial offers", it provides many different ways to get in-game currency for free. Eg "Sign up for a Netflix free trial" or "Get a car insurance quote" or "Fill out a survey". Just another way for people to get free cards if they are interested...

Yes, the iPhone/iPad versions will have in-app purchases available for new cards. It will cost $0.99 for a pack of 15 cards random cards - 10 common, 3 uncommon, 1 rare or epic, and 1 hero card

Cool. will the "booster packs" be random, or will there be a lot of booster packs to choose from? Also, since I'll be buying all the booster packs, can there be an elite booster pack with only rare and epic cards?

by the way i suggest that the booster packs will be unique and has its own name and cards..it would be very frustrating if it was random...i mean...i keep buying booster packs and i find forexample most of cards i already own..the booosterpack should be a pack of new and non repeated cards in other packs...maybe the card which are common are not so powerful and have very similiar characteristics to other cards in other booster packs...however even if cards in different packs may be similar in power and abilities...they must be different cards with different image and so..not a repetition cards....or this may be kinda frustrating and decrease the sales of IAP...because the game is already playbe without the need of booster packs...so if there is repetion..i think most people will be satisfied for the 300 card than to pay for 15 card set for one or 3 diifferent cards which will minimally affect the game play...

Hey Kyle, I love your work (BFW)

I'm looking forward to this, it's amazing art and the gameplay looks great. I like how you can compete offline too. I do have a few suggestions.

Rather than just play against someone's deck, and live play. What about introducing a TurnBased Online play. Where someone does their move, push notification, then you can do your move. I think this definitely beats playing someone's deck online and it will add to playing online. Also, what about skill level ? Some people are way better than other's and I think some sort of skill points should be awarded to differentiate. You don't want a great player owning all the newbies too much...right?

Also, this is just preference but I always loved how Yu-gi-Oh had description of cards that didn't have an effect. I dont know if ALL of your cards have an effect but maybe some dont? In any case, a small description should be fun.

    Great work!

    Had to add another post.

Yu-gi-oh had Attribute (fire, water, light, dark) and types (fiend, warrior, reptile, etc) Later on, these things added a lot of Potential to expand strategy. You could have warrior decks, light decks etc. I think that you would benefit from a system like this if you're looking to add more stuff in the future. Just take this into consideration.

Also, the idea of tributes was great for yu-gi-oh, is there something similar for this. I know that to summon you need a higher cost but I was just wondering if you had something similar? I realize you have the mechanics of the game planned out so this is just a question

EDIT: also, how do you differentiate between the rarity of the cards?

Well... to clarify, the game will launch with a total of 300 different cards. When you first play the the game you will get a pre-constructed deck of 30 cards. You get to choose your hero class and gender, out of 10 different human heroes. (there are also 10 shadow heroes, but you can only get those from booster packs randomly)

When you get new card packs, if you find you get cards that you don't need, you can always sell the cards back for gold. And when you make enough gold you can buy new packs... Different themed expansion packs will be coming out in the future, but these will also be available to get through gold or real money. I want to keep everything available for free, so it is your choice to play the game a lotttt or just pay for new packs :D

A turn-based asynchronous mode is complicated, because there are so many times that your opponent has the option of doing something, eg casting an instant ability during your turn, blocking an attack, etc. It would make a turn-based mode go soooo slow. That's why the "offline challenge" mode uses your opponent's deck and plays with computer AI.

For challenges, you are paired with a player at the same level. Since you gain experience by winning games, this means you will usually get an opponent who has won the same number of games as you.

As for strategy, heroes have a class (eg the sword icon on the tauren-like hero shows he is a warrior) and there are weapons, armor, and abilities/spells that can only be used by certain classes. So when you are constructing a deck, you won't be allowed to add mage spells if you have a warrior hero assigned to that deck.

I am adding "flavor text" to all cards, but it is in a really small font right now as you can see on the shadow mage card heheh. Rarity of cards is shown at the bottom eg "Shadow Era 200/300" identifies it as a card from the base Shadow Era set, card number 200, and white text is a common card. Green is uncommon, blue for rare, purple for epic.

Maybe I should put together a FAQ :)

Im abit confused..but i think u mean that we will start by 30 cards. And we will unlock the rest if 300 by playing alot or pay for IAP right? Or we will have 300 cards and the booster packs is for IAP and playing alot?

Anyway...im sure this game will dominate the appstore once it is released...there is not even a worthy competition of a tcg /ccg game on appstore...GoooD luck
