What's going to make it or break it for me are the controls, but the video shows very smooth gameplay, that means, either the player is too good or the controls are spot on. Hopefully both
It looks like rayman fiesta run. I was asking if this was an auto runner. I was hoping this was going to be full control.
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=210991 The link to the original thread for this (started by JoshCM) with youtube video embedded in the first post. Game looks great. Been wanting it since November. Still wanting it... Patiently. We don't have enough good platformers on iOS. This one looks really good and I'll be picking it up as soon as I can.
Unwritten rule = not a rule. And it wasn't a negative thing, it was merely a very light criticism, while I disagree with him, I think the art style looks great all around, developers can benefit more from other developer's POV than a user's.
Really? Compared to any other platform ever, well, there's no comparison. iOS is lacking in quality platformers. Maybe with time it won't be. Hopefully this will help. As things stand, people exclusively playing AppStore games accept a lot of sub par games that would be absolute failures on any other system. Just sayin'.
100% right! If you think about it, the amount of good games in general is quite low, good being at least on par with the rest of the platforms, there are many platformers, but most of them don't even feel right.
I gotta agree, you make a very good point. Looking at a game like Shadoweun Returns which is a huge iOS hit, but is considered mediocre at best elsewhere. I think it's because of the fact that it's iOS, so games that would be console and PC failures do better here because it's mobile and we don't have things like The Last of Us, Borderlands, or Dishonored. We don't even have Mark of the Ninja or Shadow Complex (but games like those are becoming more and more likely to be ported too, which will start to bring rapid changes to iOS as MFi controllers grow in popularity and ports start coming at the same time as their console brothers). That said, I hate the Rayman Run games. And it's true that they would bomb elsewhere.
The PC version of Shadowrun Returns has a 76 on Metacritic, for whatever that's worth -- not stellar, but certainly not mediocre. Also, iOS may not have Last of Us, but it does have KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, GTA3SA, Walking Dead, Phoenix Wright, FFT, Ghost Trick, and other titles that many consider to be among the best in their genres. As to platformers, I would agree that many of the classics (read Nintendo) games are not available on iOS. At the same time, we've also seen (IMO) some of the best platformers recently released, including Wimp and Incoboto -- games that have been all but ignored by the mainstream gaming audience because they're on iOS. I should add that Rayman Fiesta Run would likely kill on PC or 3DS, as long as it was priced appropriately. Angry Birds has been a huge hit on consoles (even at ridiculous console prices). Back on topic, Shadow Blade Ninja looks fantastic.
