Reminds me a bit of the arcade game Xevious.

Updated today with "new on-screen button controls for missiles and bombs".

    I think I'll try it now... :)

I just get this one after the update. My colleague buddy and I both think the bomb is a bit too weak and missile takes a little too long to reach something. Either make the bomb a "screen-cleaner" and fewer, or we can toss it to make it more useful.

Just wondering if anyone is planning on posting a review/impressions on the game?

Is the game worth it? It looks pretty decent :)

    Bombs and missiles

Hey, it's Kevin (the author of the game). Point taken on the bombs - perhaps they are just a bit weak. I'll play around with increasing its range and damage to see how it plays. As for missiles, if you collect enough missile powerups, they greatly speed up and you can launch 4 at a time.

I had considered a screen cleaner bomb, but I felt the smaller bomb was more strategic and fun to use. I also had considered bomb powerups to allow dropping of clusters to do some serious damage.

Let me know what other ideas you have! I intend to update Sentry Alpha regularly with requested improvements, but most of all, I want to know how to make the upcoming Sentry Alpha 2 something special.

A killer feature would be a temporary/rechargeable "bullet time": it'd be available all the time; you'd trigger it and use it for a few seconds; then another few seconds to recharge it so you could use it again.

    sentry alpha 2 ?
So it's going to be a new app ?
Or will you do what wings did, and upgrade the app to the second version ?
I only just got it, and it should have a survival mode, where enemies are randomly generated, and you obviously need to survive as long as possible.
also, maybe a selection of ships at the begining of the game, and each one has different weapons, eg one ship has a laser weapon, and another fires flames or something, just a little to spice it up.
It's a good game, but without survival, it will probably be deleted soon :(
    Also bullet time sounds great.

    Feedback

One concept that interests me is the idea of having an energy threshold that can be used for a variety of purposes - bullet time being one possible power. Others might be a banshee weapon that sucks life from enemies, or simply a huge frontal energy weapon. Perhaps the type of ship you choose at the beginning can determine this...

As for SA2, it'll be a while since it's way early on. I intend to make it a far more interesting game.

Anyways, love the feedback! keep it coming...

Survival mode - sounds like a cool idea! I'll take that into consideration.

I did have one level in the game (that I cut before release) that was similar to that. There were an incredible number of ground cannons, missile launchers, and other things that are simply too numerous to destroy in time, and the strategy was to just ignore them and dodge their fire. But I felt that level would have been lambasted as being too hard. Oh well.

I'm very not against adding new features, so if I add a survival mode, you'll be the first to know.

It just dropped to 99 Cents.
I'm a big shmup fan, should I get this or will I be disappointed?

    You will not be disappointed.

Just remember that it it's more of a Xevious style vert shmup rather than a "bullet hell" style shmup (as Sky Thunder tried to be) or "boss battle" shmup like rRootage and iForce. This one is slower paced, like Xevious, but it's good. Really good.

I don't regret having paid full price for it. The accelerometer controls are smooth as friggin' butter.

It is very smooth with detailed graphics.

One of the best vert shmups available. go for it while it's a buck.
