Funny, the buds on mine are way too hard to get off. I actually ripped one of the large double-flanges trying to get them off; luckily, that's not the size I needed.
It's good that you're enjoying the sound. After you let it burn in, can you rate it out of 10 compared to the S4's? I would probably give the S4 a 5-6/10. I'll take a look at the IE6 in the future but to be honest, I'm moderately happy with my S4 for now and if I do want an earphone, I'll just buy the IE8 and be done with it.I don't like buying middle of the road earphones and then spending more money to buy more middle of the road earphones when I can just buy the ones I actually will like and then not worry about wanting a new set. I have bought 2 IEMs, the V-moda Vibe(for $60) and the S4 (for $65). I thought the Vibe was great and had better sound than the S4 but the thing with the Vibe was that they worked for 3-5 months and then they broke. I actually had to replace mine 6 times. Honest. And then the warranty expired and they wanted me to pay more for their crap build quality so they can ship me some more crap quality earphones. That's why I bought the S4 but looking back, If I saved the bucks, I could have just bought the IE6 or the SE530s even. Ah well.
If you truly wanna be over and done with it. Get custom IEMs And aren't the 530s discontinued? I think there are 535s now.
I guess I will buy custom earphones later on but for now the S4's are comfortable enough. And about the 530's I was talking about the past, plus the 530 is cheaper.
Also just today apparently, Sennheiser released IE60 and IE80 to replace the IE6 and IE8. Maybe that's the reason for the price drop on Amazon. But that's great news though. That means I can get IE8 for cheaper later on.
Yeah heard about that. The only thing that I'm looking for that the IE8 has (and my TF10s don't have) is the wide soundstage I've heard about. But oh well, my TF10s are good enough. And I can get them reshelled unlike dynamics.
Ahh, just my luck. But hey, I'm still quite impressed. To answer your earlier post, I think I'd give them an eight out of ten. Whereas the S4's bass seemed a little muddy at times during heavy sections, the IE6's produce bass that's punchy and much clearer. The mids are quite forward and the highs are a little more refined than the S4's. The noise isolation is about the same, like I said before. The headphones are getting more comfortable every time I put them in, which is good, because before they didn't seem to play very nice with my weird ears. I would give the IE6's an 8.5 or 9, but I'm still a little iffy on putting the headphones in. Whereas with the S4's you could just shove them in and they'd sound as good as ever, it can take a couple tries to get the IE6's in just right so the low range sounds clear. Overall, totally noticeable change in sound quality, but a little annoying on the ease-of-use side. The thing about customs is that they're insanely expensive. I may very well take the plunge once I'm into the working world for a few years, but since I'm still a student and all, the IE6's work wonders for me.
An alternative is to reshell a universal IEM. Just make sure it uses Balanced Armature Drivers and that the crossover network is in the IEM itself rather than the wire (if your reshelling a universal with multiple BA Drivers), I don't know of any companies that reshell Dynamics. The cheapest reshelling service around is Kozee Sound Solutions at $90 standard with an extra $25 for custom art. Thing is, they don't respond to emails promptly (if at all) due to high traffic I guess? But they'll still reshell IEMs. They just don't communicate well. But if your interested I have an email address that goes straight to their president. He'll be able to answer your questions.
Eh, I think I'll just stick with what I've got for now. But thanks for letting me know as to the option; maybe I'll look into it if I get desperate enough.
