Divide and rule in an alternate reality in 1920s Europe, filled with mechs. Become the commander of a selected faction and lead it to victory in this 4X tabletop game! Choose your faction Each nation in Scythe: Digital Edition provides completely different possibilities. Be the hero of one of the seven factions: Saxony Empire, Crimean Khanate, Rusviet Union, Polania Republic, Nordic Kingdom, Clan Albion or Togawa Shogunate*. For the unique gameplay, pick a speciality: agriculturalist, industrialist, engineer, patriot or mechanic. Embrace the 4X mechanics Explore the land surrounding the Factory and be aware of the dangers waiting there. Expand your faction by claiming new territories. Exploit and gather resources to upgrade your buildings. Exterminate opposing enemies or dominate the game economically. Engage asymmetric gameplay From the very beginning, players start the game with different resources, a different starting location and a secret objective. It reflects the unpredictability of the board game and encourages experimentation. Move around the board, recruit units and fight your way to the top in a turn-based style! Play with other players Fight on your own terms, adjusting the mats to your preferences. Take three levels of AI to fine-tune your strategy, then challenge other players. In Scythe: Digital Edition, you can play with your friends in a hot-seat or try your best in online multiplayer with up to 7 players. Europe is waiting! *You can buy Clan Albion and Togawa Shogunate in DLC Invaders from Afar via the in-game store as additional factions. Is it easy to play? I love strategy games when they aren’t too complicated. (Half way of the link) https://stonemaiergames.com/games/scythe/scythe-complete-rulebook/ It’s ONLY 136 pages! That said, if a game like Civ series had a manual with the same degree of details, the manual would span few hundreds of pages. strivemind Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2010 2,784 2 38 Designer Ottawa, Canada http://www.strivemind.com/ #6 strivemind, Sep 17, 2020 Don't worry too much about the complete rulebook version. That contains rules and clarifications for not only the base game, but also all expansions and even the large Rise of Fenris campaign expansion, plus the solo instructions. The app currently contains none of these. Although I expect that the app will follow the PC release and eventually include two more factions with the Invaders from Afar expansion. I don't have a lot of experience with the app, but the board game is fantastic. Still learning though. mgambino Well-Known Member Aug 13, 2014 159 95 28 #8 mgambino, Sep 17, 2020 I haven’t played the app, but (pre COVID-19) I used to go to a gaming store on the weekends to play Scythe. In my option, it’s one of the greatest strategic board games ever made. Every move needs to be carefully thought out and the balance between asymmetrical factions is perfect. I know the manual looks daunting, but in all honesty, if you have ever played Civ (or any 4x), you already understand most of the general concepts. Remember it is a board game, so it just wouldn’t be possible to hit the complexity level of something like Masters of Orion 2 without making it completely unwieldy in real life. Again, I can’t vouch for the app, and I’ve had my issues with Asmodee’s ports, but the game itself is brilliant. djstout, Talbs and Jstorm like this. To me that looked like a title and not a button, but it is indeed a button to another page. If every bit of info you needed was displayed, it just would not be feasible to make the port universal or you’d end up with a cluttered mess on the screen. So yes, there is a need to do some window browsing, but I never found it obtrusive in any way. Or to put it another way, I think they did a good job on the port, and this is one of my favorite board games so I’d probably be very annoyed if I didn’t think they did it right AltsKev likes this. If so, you’ll pick it up very quickly. I play a ton of these types of games, so it’s hard for me to judge, but I don’t think the board game version of Scythe would be as popular as it is if it wasn’t somewhat accessible to non hardcore gamers. Sorry, that’s the best answer I can really give. I don’t want to tell you it is easy, then have you buy it and go “WTF is going on.” (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
