I've learned very quickly that I only need to buy games if I want to support the developers. That's what you did here - supported a fledgling developer. You should feel great that you got this fantastic game for an insanely low price, and that you can still get incredibly great games for insanely low prices on this platform. If the price we have to pay for that is a freebie here and there (c'mon, I know pretty much EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU has taken advantage of a freebie...), well then so be it... ** I hope this sale helps with attention... this game is a future iOS classic.
No, you paid what you agreed the game was worth to you when you bought it; you're not entitled to more free stuff now just because you changed your mind after seeing a sale. If the game had been $50 and you'd paid that willingly, you still wouldn't be entitled to anything if it went free, because you freely agreed that the $50 pricetag was fair in your eyes. You don't have to like the price drop (and it would be quite normal not to), but as an adult you really do need to accept it without kicking and screaming. Part of the reason developers drop their prices, especially when they're working in hugely over-saturated genres selling 99-cent games that cost thousands of dollars to make, is to boost recognition and make back that money, so unnecessarily handing out free stuff at this point to try to calm down people about to throw a tantrum over a single dollar wouldn't do anything but hurt them even further financially and defeat the point of the risk they knowingly just took. If you want the doubler, feel free to buy it, but don't try to latch on to the developer's situation to leverage your own greed. Most of you complaining have been registered since at least 2012, and this exact thing has happened at least once a week every week for the past couple of years, so by now there's really no excuse to be ignorant of the frequency of this situation. Acting surprised, shocked and outraged every single time it happens really isn't necessary unless your name is Leonard Shelby, and if your name is Leonard Shelby then you've probably got bigger things to worry about. Mm-hmm.
Up to a point I agree with you it's the timescale in which this and other games go free that annoys me. It used to be the case that if I really wanted to play something, or support a dev then I'd buy it on release and not be remotely bothered that it went on sale or free a couple of months later. But not even 2 weeks I think is taking the pss.
I couldn't agree more. Everyone needs to chill. These guys aren't evil. They're trying to put food on the table. Everyone needs to eat. As a society we all need to stop raging so much and support each other. Yeah I'm old. I come from the days where I'd spend 25 cents playing a game for two minutes to learn it was crap. The fact that I can buy a game of this quality for $1 without getting out of bed is a feat of our society. Lets keep that society going eh? If you don't support the people that make things you like the things you like will stop getting made. A society full of leaches won't last. So smile and play so more.
I don't get all the love. The art and music are frankly uninspired. Even the grid is dull, 90% of it is literally junk. I hate junk. Just give me the gold.
Lol, this is like the Appstore is working for over 4 years now, but people still act as if it is something new to them. As I said - sometimes you're lucky to fetch some games for free, and at other times, games drop in price just after you've bought them. That's what I've meant with "win some, lose some". But o.k., people can go on and wait for everything free and we have a system like in China in a couple of months, where 99% of all games are freemium. Moreover, there's always a bit hypocrisy involved when people are initially happy about their purchases but go on rage after a price drop. I wonder... if they go into a store and see an item, that they bought just the day before, now dropped in price, do they also go up to the store clerk and shout at him? Doubt it.
Yeah, because things in stores often go on sale TWO WEEKS after they hit.. uhmm NOT!! Climb out from the Devs arse and see the big picture here. People are HAPPY to play for their games but feel shafted when it goes free SO FAST. if it had gone free in 6 months time nobody would feel ripped off!!
It is annoying when games go free so quick. What do the people who actually spent money on the app get from it? This happens to often. I am wondering if I should just wait for any app I want to go free
It doesn't hurt you if they give the game for free to someone else. It just doesn't. It would be frustrating if they make it free and add new incentives to make in-game purchases, when you paid for the game and expect it to be complete. But there is no sign of that. So what is there to complain about?
One thing that calms me down when I go into a whiny rage spiral over the sheer cold hearted evil of the "99 cent to free" price drops is to realize I got to play the game weeks, months, or even years before the people who waited for it to drop. Is all that time worth a dollar? For the sake of an increasingly entitled generation of people, I sure hope so.
For what it's worth, I bought it at launch, and after I reached level 5 I bought the coin doubler as a show of support because I was really enjoying the game. When I saw that it had gone free this morning, my initial thought was, "Well crap." In thinking about it more, I don't mind it so much, as long as it's a temporary sale and they aren't about to introduce an update riddled with new IAP that screws their first customers. I've had that happen to me many times with games I've enjoyed, and when it happens I walk away from that dev and never give them another penny. So if this sudden sale pisses you off, I certainly understand, but I'm not going to let it ruin my weekend. Ultimately it has cost me $1.98 plus tax, and it has given me many hours of enjoyment. I'm sure I have at least that much money in change on my nightstand. If it's not a sign of draconian IAP to come, and it helps them expand their fanbase and spread the word, then great.
These quick price drops to free are frustrating, but on the other hand it was only 99 cents and I've gotten hours out of the game so it's not a big deal. Going free so quickly still feels like a slap in the face to those who were early adopters, makes me feel like a sucker, but like I said it was a mere 99 cents and was more than worth it.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I wasn't around when it dropped down to free, but reading these last few pages, sheesh. The game was easily worth the buck, and then I bought the coin doubler (the only IAP), and I have no problem with it going free. The sale will get more people to play/try it - it's happening already - and bring more attention to a game I wholeheartedly enjoy. I've personally played so much that I've gotten to a point where I feel "stuck" - but the dev has been active and helpful since the beginning, and I have no doubt that he/she/they will be updating and changing the game from feedback given here. There's lots of rage and vitriol going on here, most of which seems unfounded for this game. It was a dollar, at most $3 if you bought the (totally optional) coin doubler which some of us did to support the (helpful, nice, and attentive) developer(s). I like the game. I like the developers. I will keep playing. I don't regret spending what I spent, and I hope this sale brings attention and affection to a game that well deserves it.
Actually, it's even better than that, the price drop didn't cost you anything. You are exactly as well off as if they hadn't dropped the price.
