And a quite talented too. It tells a complete story, is very distinctive, works small, large, B/W... (maybe a bit too much white in terms of white/black/grey balance) The game is not really my cup of tea, but I've been attracted by the visual style of the game and icon since the moment it came out!
Oh Hi, haha. Didn't realize that was you from your username GDC was crazy... I probably said this then, but when that party started, I had already been up for 26 hours trying to organize my flight and get a stable build of SF2. The whole thing is kinda a blur now, and I didn't even drink! I'm going to post a video of something interesting with the logo in just a sec. It's going to be TOTALLY work-in-progress, though. It involves both graphic design and programming... Thanks for all the critiquing and support so far! Like James said, tough love is the best
I think it kinda looks like the Diablo 2 logo; it has the game in big letters with the 'II' centered behind it. Also, yes it does look like a baseball
Okay so again, this is TOTALLY work-in-progress. My idea is to have the logo fly like an aircraft from behind the camera. Then, take the position of the main menu. Then, fade out to the actual menu. This will happen when the game starts up (a tap to skip). So it has to blend from an animated 3D logo to the 2D logo - all in real time. ...Which is really complicated! I've only worked on it for a little bit, so the logo and main menu look really junky. But the technical challenge is mostly proven, just needs better artwork and animation. Improved Version:
Heheh, yeah it does. Actually, I couldn't help being influenced by the StarCraft II logo (also from Blizzard). I think the black inside part sets it apart though.
It needs to bounce back a little bit faster and it would be cool if you had a plane fly through in the bottom and, when the logo is animated, have the first ship fly through the I I in the logo. That would be really cool.
I'm not diggin the icon. Too much blue, and It doesn't stand out as much for me to click on it if I saw it.
Hmm okay... It looks I have to reconsider the icon... I'm wondering what direction I should take this time. With the original SciFly, I simply used a picture of one of SciFly's ships against a planet. It was barely even an icon, but people could certainly recognize what it is in the store. With my other App, Chalkboard Calculator, I did a similar thing, but with numbers on chalkboard. Is this what I should do for SciFly II also? If so, what? Just another ship? Or, is it just that I need a better design for an icon? I don't think any quality of design will tell people its a flying game... I did an image search for "xbox box art" and basically everything is a styalized title again an action packed background. http://images.google.com/images?q=xbox%20box%20art&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi
I think you should maybe try sometimg completely new and unlike other icons, I might draw one free hand and you could edit as a real official looking icon. P.S. Maybe if doesn't work try something like quake 3
really, really quick mock up this does not resemblem my final design at all, i just wanted to do a quick design in paint. like i said really really quick and made in ms paint
I really like the second, improved logo. That's really cool because it looks like a spaceship (as you said). It kind of reminds me of the Roman numeral 'II', which makes sense because this is the sequel
Good point. I still don't think I'm sticking with this logo, probably just going with a picture of action, but no hurt in drafting good ideas. And you are right, I think I do like it more than before this way.
Dude, thanks for taking the time to do that! I'm not sure about using SF, though... Those two letters are sorta taken by Street Fighter, especially Street Fighter 2...
