Oh, well, it looks like you're basing this off of Resident Evil 5, which isn't a horror game in the least. Sure, it has its moments that make you jump a bit, but it sure isn't a horror game at all. Check out Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, or Code Veronica X for a real RE experience. The first 3 can all be purchased on PSN, with Resident Evil 2 being the best of the 3, and Code Veronica X can be found for the PS2 online for a really low price (I got mine 2 years ago for 3 bucks).
scariest game... I've just been playing through. Amensia - The Dark Decent. you have no weapons and can only hide/run and barracade rooms to stop bad things happen. Great audio, visuals not bad either. Sort of like a 1st person shooter without guns mixed with a point and click adventure. Properly scary... http://www.amnesiagame.com/#media
Strangely enough Silent Hill shattered Memories the PSP game is the last thing that made me jump any including films and all the others like all the silent hills it's just extremely creepy and playing it in the dark with earphones in makes you jumpy. I think it helps that you don't have weapons and have to run away with no way to defend yourself knowing their coming closer and closer to grabbing you. There was one bit playing the game I somehow caught sight my own reflection on the screen while playing it and didn't realise what it was I actually freaked out until I realised that's what it was. The other nice thing about this game is it watches how you play it and it does things to mess with you if you play it a second time. There is some really nice sequences between levels when your in a psychiatrists office being quizzed and taking tests and at the end of the game it uses all this informations to analyse you in a report mine was so accurate I actually saved it to show some people who know me. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Pretty cool really and it's meant to be able to figure you out more and more each time you play it through.
Silent hill (ps1) is still the scariest memory I had. But minecraft is scary for me now. It's not exactly shocking scary, but it's "if I die I lose my stuff" scary.
Yeah man Amnesia scared the living hell out of me, the feeling when a zombie is on your tail and you realize the only way to escape is by running and hiding in the dark, and when your character starts hallucinating in the dark... Combine that with really scary sound and graphics and Amnesia is definitely the most scary game out right now.
I have to say that RE 1 & 2 and Code Veronica scared me a tad back when they came out. Didn't neccesarily "scare me" but sure did make me jump like crazy in the dark in the middle of no where at my friends house (his house was the only one in the middle of no where next to a truck stop >.<) This generation though, F.E.A.R. 1 and especially 2 gave me some good scares. But the one that tops the list of creepy atmosphere and a great amount of distubances, Dead Space. Can't wait for 2.
That scene where you enter a dark room and find out that (MASSIVE MAJOR SPOILER hidden ahead, in case someone is playing it for the first time) Shodan is still alive... one of my best gaming moments ever.
I sometimes feel like the only one who wasn't scared at all by Dead Space. Don't get me wrong, they're great games (I can't wait for the second one at all), but to me it's more or less a ridiculously violent Resident Evil 4 set in a sci fi setting that aims for more shock scares than atmospheric scares. And Resident Evil 2 still gets me a lot, although it's definitely not as scary as it was back in the 90's.
It was the atmosphere for me that GOT me in Dead Space. Lots of jumps and pretty creepy shit. Hope 2 will be as good as the first, if not better. Hope too though, that it isn;t the same ol shit over and over again. lol Yeah RE 2 was awesome back in it's day. Still awesome to play, but not near as scary lol.
Dead Space was 50/50 for me. Jump scares are cheap and unimaginative, but they do work. I liked the atmosphere, gave me a vibe similar to the Aliens movies.
SH: SM is actually the least scary SH game in my opinion. Well of course it is, it's an American spin-off of the originals. But the plot of that game is simply amazing, one of the best horror game plots ever since I played the original Resident Evil games. RE1 wasn't as scary as I thought, which was a disappointment. RE4 and RE5 have more in common with Left 4 Dead than horror games. I don't see how its genre was labeled "survival" horror... you find herbs and ammo like every other corpse. I wish the original SH and RE games can come out for Wii, really want to play those but I don't think I'm going to buy a PS1 and PS3 just for them.
Well if I get home and my friend (who's a girl =D) isn't on xbox live then I'll see how Dead Space is since I just picked it up at the mall. I will say that I loved the demos and expect the game to be incredible, but certainly not as scary as people say.
Yeah and a decade later the biggest shock in Bioshock was that it wasn't scary at all...gimme System Shock 3 already
I completed that game and there is no way it was scary. A decent game but it wasn't scary. Had some jumpy bits maybe but that's it. A game many people consider a very scary game is Condemned: Criminal Origins. Having played and maxed out both Condemned games, I have to agree that it is a very scary game indeed. But number 2 stopped being scary a few missions in, unfortunately.
I haven't played anything scary since Resident Evil 3 on the original Playstation, however I remember being scared a few times when I was younger playing D for the Sega CD/Saturn (I can't remember which).
Scariest game? I haven't come across any REAL scary games, most just movies, but if I had to name one, It'd be Left 4 Dead. It has it's share of scary moments, when you turn around the corner and a zombie lunges at the screen
