THAT'S the game I was trying to remember... my friend told me about this one on the PS3 that he played and said was pretty creepy... Anyone want to put Brain Age up there? You're being commanded to think by a disembodied, floating, pixelated head of some old Japanese professor dude. Scary stuff.
I love eternal darkness for gamecube, when your character starts to lose their sanity, some crazy things start to happen. If you,ve played the game then you know what I mean.
Win. Also would like to add "Roman Polanski's Little Kid Rush" for the iPhone was a pretty messed up game.
I'm going to have to agree with you on that one there. Never actually played the game, but I've youtubed enough of it to know how sick those sanity effects can get. I have to get this game some time. And theres one more flash game that got me at one part. In Meat Mansion when you go to grab the key off the window sill... scared the crap outta me. I avoided windows for the rest of the night lol.
Man, I got scared the crap out of FEAR 1 when I played it. I never played it at night, only in the day for obvious reasons, haha.
i love that you put clock tower first. i'm actually a proud owner of a brand new sealed copy of the original super famicom clock tower. i also have a mint copy of its port to the wonderswan which is actually complete. it's just in black and white. i'm a huge fan of the series, and i find it to be the first true survival horror game. this isn't about grabbing guns and slaughtering the evil, no. this is about running away and hiding, being completely helpless and trying to survive. it's like a slasher horror simulator. ever wanted to know what it feels like to be chased by the unstoppable jason in friday the 13th? play this. siren also gets a huge vote for me. it's not really a traditional survival horror game in the sense that it's actually a puzzle game in disguise. it's kind of hard to explain, but those that have experienced it will understand. similar to clock tower, you don't really get to handle any effective weaponry(you do, but it's extremely rare), and you must run without being found. there's nothing more terrifying than seeing yourself being chased through the eyes of the enemy once you're spotted. silent hill goes without saying...but i'll add my two cents that i found the original to be the scariest and the best. and nobody mentioned system shock 1/2?!
Oh yeah... System Shock 2 is kinda creepy so far. I've been playing it but havn't gotten too far yet, just killed my first couple of hybrids. Game's really good so far. And I thinki Clock Tower is the only game that really just scared me. I admit it, it really scared me when I was playing it. Especially when you go into the bathroom and examine the tub... i saw it coming and still jumped a mile. Also, everyone seems to be forgetting about Condemned... those games are just flat out creepy... EVen the demo was pretty freaky, and it was nothing compared to the videos i've seen of the game.
that tub scene is as classic as it gets. during the dawn of the ds, a proper clock tower 1 port/remake was always first on my list of most wanted games. apparently i'm not alone in this as i've found a mockup of a clock tower ds case before. and since the app store has taken off it makes me wish someone would make a port/remake for the iphone. given that it's a point and click series, the match couldn't be any more perfect. sadly, it's pretty safe to say that it will never happen. for the die hard clock tower fan, there was a short fan movie made that's actually not bad for a bunch of students. check it out here sometime http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmFzxvz1ecs and yeah, condemned 1 was amazing! the department store level has been burned into my mind forever. unsettling to the maximum extent. i just started to play 2 the other day, and so far it's alright...but it doesn't seem like it's going to be as good as the first.
I've tried emulating the game on both my DS and iPod 1g and neither of them work. iPod runs the game at probably less than 10 fps and the DS one just goes to a black screen... Ah well, I've got my laptop at least. This definetly deserves some attention on the current gaming market. It'd probably be better than most of the new horror games anyway... they just don't make them the same anymore... And the one thing that REALLY got me in Condemned was when you find Mr. Tibbits (or whatever his name was. I'm pretty sure it was that.) and you have to zoom in to take a picture... crap...
it's a shame that even through emulation it doesn't seem to work...but yeah, they seriously don't make them like this anymore. Haunting Ground is really the last true successor to clock tower, and that was it. and i know exactly what part you're talking about in condemned hahaha. i actually knew full well what they were going to do before i zoomed in the for the picture, and it still scared me. damned video games! these are some other horror titles that might not be the scariest games ever, but they definitely deserve a mention as being good horror games. D 1 & 2 Fear Effect 1 & 2 Indigo Prophecy Kuon Cursed Mountain
I've always wanted to get around to playing Indigo Prophecy. Read a basic overview guide in a magazine once... such a cool premise. I didn't know it was a horror game though. Cool. May I also say that all the remakes of the original Resident Evil seem really scary. I was playing Rebirth mode in Deadly Silence and when Forest came back as a zombie I almost threw my DS. Lol I was used to the origina when he was just there... Oh yeah, this Clock Tower video is really good... Really seems to get what CT was all about: Hiding helplessly from an indestructible enemy. Who just so happens to have a gigantic pair of scissors.
hahaha there's this really great moment in Deadly Silence involving a bloody door and a sword...that's about all i have to say.
Lol I hope I can get to it... I always get lost in the early RE games. I love them, but I get so lost...
yeah it happens much later on in the game. a lot of people often find themselves running in circles in those earlier resident evils. you might have to fall back on using a walkthrough. i know, nobody wants to do it...but sometimes you must.
Walkthrough time it is... I would youtube the scene but it would probably blow the whole thing and make it completely un-scary when I actually get to it... oh well, walkthrough time.
Yeah I was gonna mention Kuon but it's kinda rare and not the greatest game. It does have a real creepy atmosphere to it though.
