Initial impressions: Controls are solid, I feel connected to the action, camera motion takes a bit to get accustomed to. Cool theme. Roll mechanic adds diversity. Beginning enemy patterns seem rather sterile; feels more like target practice. Needs screen rotation and pause button; app title should only be Savant, not Savant - Asc... Instead, use the icon that is available as it is presented for purchase, not the giant V. This is a better icon anyway, while also containing the word 'Ascent' inside it. The buttons on the left side of the screen should all be moveable. They would all serve the player better in the left hand corner. These are all the things I noticed within five minutes. This is obviously a keeper, but is still not finished.
I love that Savant holds the ball of energy in his hand when he's not shooting and also switches hands depending on the direction he is firing. I'm sure this has been discussed previously in the thread, but for anyone having trouble with the enemies not being visible, pay attention to the red arrows. The left side buttons definitely need to be able to be customized. The roll button needs to be accessible in the left hand corner away from the other buttons. It's integral to the gameplay and sliding my finger up the left side of my iPad while holding the iPad with my left hand is unacceptable. I am repeatedly finding myself touching the other buttons by accident in an attempt to find the roll button, or missing the roll entirely. Oh, and where's the consumable IAP to make this game easier?
...of course on the iPhone the buttons really have nowhere else to go, so this is pretty much an iPad issue. I think this game might be better suited to the iPhone, except that my thumb ends up covering Savant a lot of the time.
Hmmm. I'm getting somewhat of a Sine Mora vibe here, where on paper I should be really liking this game, but it's not clicking with me. It's decent, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I like the concept. I like the intensity. I don't think I like the enemies. They bore me. I don't know. Tough to explain. Maybe I'll like it better down the road. Until then, have fun with it guys.
Watch your tone. These developers don't have to be in the forums. You want to talk Sine Mora, I'll love ya long time, in the appropriate thread.
It's a forum dude. Nothing he said was out of line. And I feel a developer should not only get praise for a game. They should be made aware of any gripe a customer has. It could only make a game better. So please chill with the out of line posts.
Ok I'm sorry if these issues have already been touched on, I'm sure some have, but I'm not reading 150 comments right now... 1) I love this game. 2) no Gamecenter in a high score chasing arcade iOS game is a HUGE oversight, I'm hoping this thread has a comment by the devs that says "Gamecenter coming soon". 3) out of curiosity, what are you guys high scores? 4) I've never played Sine Mora, but this gives me a Ziggurat vibe, only I think this is actually a better game -- which is a HUGE compliment. Still, no GC = 4/5 GC addition = instant iOS 5 star classic
Anyone getting an annoying sound glitch? Every few minute or so I keep hearing a nasty staticky glitch. It's really nasty sounding and is ruining the games sound for me, which sucks because the soundtrack is on of the games strongest points.
This is nothing like Sine Mora. I only compared it from the perspective of wanting to like it, but couldn't. And yes, I have noticed the sound glitch also.
http://toucharcade.com/2013/12/06/toucharcade-game-of-the-week-savant-ascent/ Savant - Ascent got named TA's game of the week.
I forgot about this game, coz i was waiting for the update. Thanks for the bump. Will play this again Hopefully that update comes along soon.
The Android version got a pretty substantial update the other day. I would be surprised if it didn't show up on iOS any day now.
